Dec 30, 2011i have been trying to search a specified directory and all sub directories for all files that have the specified file extension. However the inbuilt command is useless as it errors up and dies if you dont have access to a directory.

Jul 3, 2011I need to upload a large set of files and directories to my web server, all of the files that I want to upload to my server are located in "C:Files_To_Upload" directory, it contains thousands of files and maybe 100 directories/sub directories so I don't want to have to specify each specific sub folder and file - jmcilhinney's ftp example which I am currently working with shows a way to upload all of the files from a specific directory, but not subfolders and their files. How can I get it to also upload the sub folders and their files?

When I run this code I can use any directory as the root directory except My Documents.When I use the directory path with My Documents, as well as finding all of the folders contained in My Documents, it finds three extra: My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. Those three folders do not exist at all in My Documents. I have checked hidden files and folder and they are definately not there yet the showDirectories() sub says that they are.The exact error is: Access to the path 'C:UsersMichaelDocumentsMy Music' is denied.It's dened because the folder doesn't exist. I have checked myself using Windows Explorer!Despite this, when I type 'file:///C:/Users/Michael/Documents/' in the address bar of Google Chrome, it shows all of the files and folders in My Documents and, guess what, it shows the folders My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. But Windows Explorer doesn't show these! The strange thing is, for each of the folders, the last Date Modified was 23/01/2011 13:42:49 exactly. Each of the folders was last modified at that exact second simultaneously!I have 3 "ghost" folders "haunting" my My Documents. Is there any programs out there that perform "exorcisms" cause I am seriously freaked out!Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this. When I started writing this thread, it was about Visual Basic but now I realise it has nothing to do with programming at all.

Aug 16, 2010I have several groups of files with idential names, but the files inside may or may not have identcal names, and may differ only in the size or date stamp. I want to combine them to save all unique directory names, and unique file names, and if the date/sizes are unique, then add some number on the end of the file name to make them unique as well. Only idential file sizes and names and dates will be discarded. How do you open directories to compare directory/file names and other properties?

VS 2008 Extracting Icons From Files In Directory
Jul 24, 2009I was able to extract icons from the current running processes and then put them into a ListView.
I am trying to do the same with files in a specified directory:
vb.net

When I use this code, I get an error stating: "'MainModule' is not a member of 'System.IO.FileInfo'." If I remove the very first line of the sub that specifies the directory, that error obviously goes away.
So, is there another method of extracting the icon? Or must I declare the directory in another way?
