Dec 30, 2011i have been trying to search a specified directory and all sub directories for all files that have the specified file extension. However the inbuilt command is useless as it errors up and dies if you dont have access to a directory.

Aug 16, 2010I have several groups of files with idential names, but the files inside may or may not have identcal names, and may differ only in the size or date stamp. I want to combine them to save all unique directory names, and unique file names, and if the date/sizes are unique, then add some number on the end of the file name to make them unique as well. Only idential file sizes and names and dates will be discarded. How do you open directories to compare directory/file names and other properties?

Nov 23, 2011I am working on a small music player software that runs from the thumbdrive and does not need to be installed. The problem is that when ever i scan the directory for files, it will not scan unless I am running it on a computer that has previously compiled the code. Regardless of whether visual studio is installed or not. Below is the rountine for the scan that is not working. It seems to stop at the 'ForEach ti in hi.getfiles'.

I'm trying to copy a buntch of sub directories to a different directory. I'm wanting to update this code:

When I run this code I can use any directory as the root directory except My Documents.When I use the directory path with My Documents, as well as finding all of the folders contained in My Documents, it finds three extra: My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. Those three folders do not exist at all in My Documents. I have checked hidden files and folder and they are definately not there yet the showDirectories() sub says that they are.The exact error is: Access to the path 'C:UsersMichaelDocumentsMy Music' is denied.It's dened because the folder doesn't exist. I have checked myself using Windows Explorer!Despite this, when I type 'file:///C:/Users/Michael/Documents/' in the address bar of Google Chrome, it shows all of the files and folders in My Documents and, guess what, it shows the folders My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. But Windows Explorer doesn't show these! The strange thing is, for each of the folders, the last Date Modified was 23/01/2011 13:42:49 exactly. Each of the folders was last modified at that exact second simultaneously!I have 3 "ghost" folders "haunting" my My Documents. Is there any programs out there that perform "exorcisms" cause I am seriously freaked out!Perhaps this is the wrong place to post this. When I started writing this thread, it was about Visual Basic but now I realise it has nothing to do with programming at all.

The above code reads all the files & directories in a selected path. It ignores any hidden folders, like it suppose to. Except it doesn't ignore folders inside of the hidden folders that it finds & I need it to.I can't quite wrap my head around how to make it ignore all folders & files inside of a hidden folder that it find.

Mar 15, 2010i have a scanner set up which scans .bin and .iso files and returns the crc32 checksums (then displays various info based of that etc)
Im looking into adding support for .rar and .zip files, so the end user wont have to extract there files to scan them, how ever that adds to many variable for the crc32's based of what each persons compression is etc. So what about scanning the file inside of the rar/zip file.
So would it be possible to scan a rar or zip file, and get the crc32 of the .iso/.bin located within that archive?

I am trying to scan multiple pages from an Automatic Document Feeder Scanner and combine them to a singlemulti-page tif file. I am using two different third party libraries to do this.The first library I am using is to scan the documents. It saves the files to the local hard drive as single page tif files. It's the files located in the C:System Volume Information Directory.How can i avoid the exception but continue on. I can't put a if then statement around the variable declaration. because then i can't use the variable. And catching the exception just causes my routine to stop.
