View 2 RepliesI an trying to create a GUI and I have added a menu strip, under the tools section of the menu strip, I have added a settings option. I want to click settings and have it open another windows form linked to the main windows form with the menustrip in order to set certain parameters. How do I link these two boxes using the settings menu strip?
View 1 RepliesI have created a parent form and 2 child forms. Each of the forms have menustrips. When i run the application the menu strip appears on the parent form but not on the child forms. I have the menu strip set to visable.
View 4 RepliesNote: I am working with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. Note: There are a lot of MDI Child posts, but none (that I have found) that apply to my scenario... Scenario I have an MDI form with a UserControl docked at the top. The UserControl is for navigation and is ~50 pixels in height. When I show a child form with its WindowState property already set to 'Maximized', the child form shows maximized in the MDI parent, but behind the UserControl.

I am developing a application where I have 1 parent from (windowstate of Parent from is set to Maximized) and 2 child forms. In my Parent form I have a menustrip with following code to activate child -

i have my main child form open. then i show the new form:
[Code]...
but when the form opens it flickers a lot. so i want move the new form behind the main form while it loads so the user does not see the flicker. once it is done loading i will set the form to topmost. how do i move the new form behind the main form?
How do I make a menu item on a menu strip link to another windows form (like a menu item that links to an about page already created in the project). I know that every coder knows how to do this, but i've read most of the instructions in the world for Visual Basic coding, but can't find ANYTHING I know coding fairly well, so I can modify it, but I can't create it my self.
View 4 RepliesIs there away to prevent an MDI child form from being auto maximized?
The problem I have is this. I have an mdi application that contains 2 mdi child forms. When I show the first form and maximize it so that it fills the mdi window I can't load the second form non maximized.
Vb.net automatically maximizes the second form despite the fact that I didn't tell it too! If I then restore the second form to its normal size it then does the same with the first form. This is all very strange to me. When you maximize one form inside an MDI window it maximizes them all.[code]...
i am having some trouble in my Windows form application. i have 2 forms1st Main / Parent Form2nd Sub / Child Form (Menu)
View 7 RepliesI have a program I've been working on for some time now and I'd like to try to streamline it somewhat. I have a main menu form that has a split panel, in the left panel is a treeview that displays forms you can open and when one is selected, it opens in a child window in the right panel. Each time I open form I called DWNForm, it does a series of dataset loads which are the populating items for a series of listviews.
What I would like to do is have these datasets load once during the mainMenu load and then have the DWNForm be able to access the datasets once it is called from the treeview selection.
I want to create an IMAGELIST in a main form and add to it then have it accessible within a child form. I found several MS examples on database shared access but this is NOT the concept I am after. Straight forward:
Child_Form.<function_to_execute_in_child_form>(The_Passed_Imagelist)
So, within the child form it want to do whatever I like to the IMAGELIST! I have tried passing the object by reference and anything I could think of.
When I open my child form,
frm_Analogs.ShowDialog()
It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?
I have a MDI Parent form created with a MenuList, I also have the MDI child form created.ow do I go about using the MenuList to open the MDI child form within the parent form?
View 1 RepliesI have an MDI Form that contains an MDI Child form. On this child form is a flexgrid. When the user double clicks on a row in the flexgrid this loads another MDI Child form. I have set the following properties on the second child form:
FormBorderStyle = FixedDialog
MaximizeBox = False
MinimizeBox = False
StartPosition = CenterScreen
WindowState = Normal
The problem is that if the first MDI child form is in a maximized state and the user double clicks on the flex grid, the second child form loads in a maximized state too! How can I stop this?

When I open a form in my application and I maximize it, the Icon and the ControlBox are merged in the menu of the MDI parent where I open the form in. That is perfectly normal.
But when I close that form and open an other and also maximize it, I get two icons and two control boxes in my menu. When I close that form and open an other again and maximize it on it's turn, I get 3 icons and 3 control boxes in my menu. When I close the maximized form shouldn't the icon and the controlboxes dissapear?
1: I have to create an application that will dynamically add a menu strip with menu items to a form (i.e., NOT dragged and dropped onto the form) in Visual Basic. The menu strip should be created in the Form_Load event handler. I have to use a TextBox for user input. If the user enters information into the TextBox and clicks on the Add Button, the text should be added to a ComboBox control.
A Menu should then be created that must be added to the menu strip dynamically. There should be a second TextBox that will be used to add a new menu item to the menu that is currently selected in the ComboBox. When a menu item is selected, it must simply display a MessageBox with the items name (For example, adding a menu item called View would display a MessageBox with the message "View").
2: I have to create a quiz machine program in in Visual Basic with the following:
A menu strip that must be created programmatically (ie NOT dragged and dropped onto the form). There should be an exit option added to the menu strip that must exit the application.
A structure must be created to encapsulate all the questions and suggested answers. The structure must contain:
Question String
Answers Collection
Correct Answer String
When the form loads, 5 questions must be created in code using these structures. These 5 structures will then serve as the quiz. The user must be shown the first question, and have the option of browsing forwards and backwards through the quiz. The program should store saved answers to select the radio button when users cycle through. This can be done by any means possible, for example an ArrayList or SortedList.
I have to ensure that the suggested answers are randomized the first time the form loads only. Once the user has selected an answer for every question, the Submit button should be enabled. When the user clicks this button, the program must then evaluate the quiz and compare the users selected answers against the correct answer. A valid message must then be displayed via a MessageBox indicating the user's score.
I'am trying to find my context menu strip in my form but my code doesnt seem to displayed my desired output...here is my code:

If I have setup a simple form named Fmain, in this form I have created a menu strip, this menustrip has a item showing a new for called Frfxcom. In this Frfxcom form I placed a textbox and used its databinding property for connecting to a local database pointing to a certain column in the database named " ip". The database wizard started and inserted some code, at that moment the errors "type not defined" showed up. Here is the automatic generated code:
<Global.Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.DesignerGenerated()> _
Partial Class Frfxcom
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
'Form overrides dispose to clean up the component list.
<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCode()> _

Background Story: My program contains a form and 3 buttons (Add New, Delete, Edit...etc), and it works perfectly. Recently, I decided to add menuStrip, since it helps end-user to work faster. So, I put the menu strip coding.
However.....Sometimes, it works normally. But sometimes it works very strange.
Strange 1. When I chose the "Add New" item in the menu, the Add New Form will be showing up, and then I clicked on the Cancel button in the Add New Form. The Form kept showing up repeatedly. But sometimes, it works normally. (Note: Add New Form's Cancel button contains one line simply coding, it's "me.close")
Strange 2. When I chose "Delete" item in the menu, the MsgBox showing up (since I coded it and it's a warning message to end-users), but the MenuStrip KEPT showing up, so the MenuStrip overlapping the MsgBox. (I expected the MenuStrip disappear in this situation)
Is some codings I have done incorrectly?
Here below is the coding:
CODE:
created a menustrip (MenuStrip1) by dragging the tool onto my form (form1.vb). And designed the headings/items etcI have now created another form (form2.vb) within the same project.I would like to use MenuStrip1 that i designed for form1.vb in my new form2.vb.

View 1 RepliesI have a main form that is set to be an MDI Container (IsMDIContainer - True). I have a number of child forms to that parent. When I first display a child (Maximized and .Dock= DockStyle.Fill) in the MDI Window, all is fine, but if I click the maximize button to bring the child down into the MDI window, then click the maximize button again to dock it again, the size of my menu in the main form doubles. I have that main menu setting "Allow Merge = False."
View 3 RepliesI am new to VB, I am currently trying to make a basic Lottery application for me and a few friends. I have a couple of questions regarding that. Basically the reqs are:
1) we should be able to input for 2 lotteries (super 7 and pick 3) the amount of money spend individually. IN a separate menu Should be able to input the winning numbers for past draws, in a notepad or access.
2) Should be able to see the most picked 3 numbers in the previous draws for both the lotteries.
Question. Say I have menu entries: Lotteries- Pick 3 and Super 7. This is my main form. If I go pick 3, enter last draw numbers should it open up a new form or can I just repaint and work in the same form?
I want that the child form's moving space inside the main form would be limited so it wouldn't go over the borders like in the picture.[code]...
View 2 RepliesI have a visual basic 2010 project that has a menu item hidden (visibility). there is a second form (child window) that you can popup and hit a button to show the menu item. I am having trouble finding the right commands to do this. I am use to C and the API where you can get the handle to the parent windows menu, and do it that way. But I have been unsuccessful in VB.
View 4 RepliesI have a MDI app. At the moment I merge my context menu from my child to the parents tool strip menu. But now I don't get a context menu show in my child form?
View 2 RepliesAs you can see from the screen shot I have managed to get MDI Parents / Child forms working, and managed there to be a menu option on the Parent form that displays all the Child forms opened at the time. What I was wondering, and as of yet through research haven't discovered, is there a way when the list of windows is created, if a user highlights any child in the list it opens a sub-menu from its name (eg. Rename Window, Center Window, etc).
