MSDN - Collection(Of T).RemoveAt Method

May 25, 2012

The MSDN page for this method says this: ArgumentOutOfRangeException. index is less than zero.-or-index is equal to or greater than Count. That doesn't make any sense, surely it should be "index is equal to or greater than (Count - 1)" Since index is zero based. I need to know since I'm Overriding the RemoveItem method for a Class that Inherits Collection(Of T).

Why ArrayList.RemoveAt() Is Not Working

Jul 28, 2011

I am currently using Florian Leitner's HID USB library in my VB.NET solution for communicating with a pin pad. As per his sample code, I set up an event handler to handle incoming responses from the device which are stored in an ArrayList called usbBuffer:

The problem is that the RemoveAt is not working, since the first element in the list remains there after the handler is done. Could someone please advise as to what I've done wrong, or perhaps use a different approach?

Checklistbox.RemoveAt Unchecks Next Item In Listbox?

Oct 28, 2011

Heres some test code I used. Just a checklistbox on the form with this code-behind:

Dim list As New List(Of String)
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
For i = 0 To 10
list.Add("Test " + i.ToString)

[code].....

I use a list to keep track of the items in the listbox, so if I remove one of those items from the listbox I want to also remove it from the list using the same index. If you use this code and load the form and then check all the items, youll notice that when you uncheck one it will remove the item and THEN also uncheck the next item...why is that?

Class Collection Property - Method - Allow For An Employee To Be Assigned More Than One Work Location

Jun 17, 2011

I am experimenting with a transition from my application built in VB6 to vb.net. I know, about time. At the same time, i am making changes and improving upon the original. One area that I am working on is within my employee class. very standard class, nothing fancy. One change I want to make though is allow for an employee to be assigned more than one work location. Employee has (is assigned) Stores. In reading about collections, it appears they are different in .net (as they should be), but I don't know what the sytax changes will be to implement my changes.

.net - Storing Subcollections (filtered Versions Of The Main Collection) Inside The Collection As Cache?

Jan 15, 2010

Is it good practice to store sub-collections of item X inside a parent collection of item X for caching 'filter-queries' which are performed on the parent collection? (They won't be used together (as in color AND type).) Or is it also ok to just Loop over the collection and return the correct entities in a temporary collection?

Use The MSDN Documentation?

Feb 28, 2010

The regularity and frequency of that extolling is an indication of how many people, for whatever reason, don't use the documentation. Some say that I've forgotten what it's like to be a beginner, but I remember using the MSDN documentation as a beginner. I remember that I couldn't always find what I needed and I also remember that I didn't always understand what I found. More importantly, I remember that that didn't stop me using it first every time I had an issue and I also remember getting better at using it over time. So, I'm genuinely interested to know, if you don't use the MSDN documentation?

VB MSDN Help Language Gives C# Results

Nov 6, 2009

I'm using VS2008 with all updates current. When programming with VB, I set the MSDN Help language to Visual Basic, but I very frequently get results for C#. Why does that happen and is there a reliable way to prevent it? I know C# and can adapt the results to suit my needs, but I thought using the filters was supposed to restrict results. Apparently, it doesn't. I'm just curious; why does that happen?

Collection Index Must Be In The Range 1 To The Size Of The Collection?

Dec 17, 2009

I've been working with a CMS called InsiteCreations 2008. I'm running into an error I just can't wrap my head around. I would even be willing to compensate anyone a small amount over paypal, for a solution. The error is rare in occurance, and appears when clicking about 3-4% of links to other pages within our CMS.The full code page is quite large, but there seems to be only one function associated with the error. The error also only appears when not logged into the CMS. If logged into the CMS, clicking the link simply displays the page as normal. I have already checked permissions on the page from the CMS admin console, and it is public.

The error message is as follows:

Server Error in '/' Application.Collection index must be in the range 1 to the size of the collection.
Description:
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Generating Documentation Like MSDN But Manually?

Jun 7, 2010

there are tools (SandCastle?) that can generate an MSDN-like documentation (HTML files) from your source code by using the XML comments above members. I am looking to generate a similar documentation (bunch of HTML files that one can link through), except not from XML comments but completely manually. It is for a custom scripting language, I have to document the available functions, and it would be great if I could do that in this common documentation style. Since there are no XML comments to generate the documentation from (the documentation is for the scripting language itself, not for my source code of the scripting language?

What I'm looking for in detail is a way to generate these documentation files by simply supplying this information for each function:

- Namespace (just the name and maybe a description)
- Function name + description + return type
- List of arguments and their types

from this I would to generate a document where one can first view all the Namespaces, click one (they are supposed to be links) and view all the functions in that namespace. Then you can click on a function name and view its description and list of arguments for that function. In other words: just like these automatic tools do, except now I want to supply this information manually.

While writing this I thought of one way that I might be able to do it: just create namespaces and functions in actual VB code (corresponding to the scripting language functions) and generate the documentation from that, but

1) That seems a little contrived especially if a better tool is available,

2) I would be in trouble with the types of functions and arguments, since they would have to be .NET types and not the types that my scripting language supports.
