The idea here is to capture the information provided by Device Manager and store it in a database. In turn this information could be used as a configuration management tool.
My device tree is coming along nicely, with one minor exception. There are hidden devices that Device Manager does not display by default. Show Hidden Devices causes Device Manager to display these devices. My Device Manager displays them by default. I want to duplicate the Device Manager behavior of being able to hide and display these devices in my appilcation. I have had some success with this task in that I am able to hide the Plug and Play devices that are marked as hidden by windows by use of the "Don't Display In DM" flag. There is the small issue of the Non Plug and Play Device Class. My question is this... Is there a similar flag for Non Plug and Play devices? I have found a reference to the PNP_DEVICE_STATE and IRP_MN_QUERY_PNP_DEVICE_STATE IRP. It contains a flag
PNP_DEVICE_DONT_DISPLAY_IN_UI. My problem is that I cannot find any guidance as to the structure of this API declare and the coding needed to use it. I'm not even sure if this API will be helpful in accomplishing my task. I want to hide the Non Plug and Play devices and device class in my tree. Can someone please assist me with the locating an API that will accomplish this and the proper coding of the API in VB?
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and Running Windows 7 Ultimate with all Service Packs and updates applied.

Cannot Connect To Db In SQL Server Manager
Oct 12, 2009Greetings,I created a new db in the SERVER Manager to experiment with; however it has real data that I would not like to loose. When I tried to access the db from VB 2008 Express it would not connect. Finally I connected by rebooting and NOT opening SQL Management applet. Ever since I have connected in VB I have not been able to connect from SQLManagement. I have been battling cancer for the past serveral years and have forgotten many of my skills. Things change so fast and I'm way behind.

Dec 22, 2010 Made what I think was a tactical error by using lots of 3rd party controls that made it easy to get stuff going but resulted in carrying a lot of baggage with my apps. Now it is finally time to switch to VB.Net and I want to avoid 3rd party controls as much as possible.
The database is MS Access. Master table called GroupName, key GroupID, string GroupName. Child table is GroupCustomer, key GroupID+CustomerID. Two datagridviews, GroupName on top, CustomerGroup on bottom. I've studied the one to many videos and howto's and it is easy and works like a champ. Fill the tables, sort, filter, add, update, delete, all is well.

GroupID1 GroupName1
GroupID2 GroupName2
and so on.....

However, adding a third table is where I get into trouble. In the bottom grid I want to link customerID to the Customer table to pick up Name, address, city, state & zip for display purposes. I've modified the table adapter to create a select query returning the lookup data with the groupID and customerID. It displays nicely on the Fill but doesn't automatically refresh the customer lookup fields when I add or change a customerID and I can't seem to update new records or deletes. The only table in my query that I want to update is the GroupCustomer table but the query is not updateable.I've been trying to figure this out, read articles, learn, step back and think but am still stuck. how to use the controls that come with VS2010.
Web Browser Download Manager
May 9, 2010I searched the forum and everywhere else and ive been looking for a few weeks now and havent found anytihng on this. I've got a downloader created thats working in vb and ive got a web browser thats working all I need is the download manager to work. I cant figure it out for the life of me ive been trying to use the filedownload event but nothing. someone please help I think I know what to do we need to cancel the new window and show my download manager but I cant get it working
