Communicate Between 2 .Net Apps?
Apr 10, 2010If I control both applications, what is the best way to communicate between 2 exe's written in VB.Net. For example, I want to drop an XML file from one app, and pick it up with the other, but I do not want poll for the file. I've heard of named pipes, but I found it was complicated. What's the most effecient way to do this?

Nov 8, 2011I have developed a desktop application that connects to a MS SQL server over a network. One of my clients wants a third party company to be able to use my desktop application but connect to the MS SQL database in my client�s office. Obviously my client could open the ports to the SQL server to make this accessible from the web, but this is a huge security issue and obviously not one I want to even recommend. Is there a way that I can make my desktop application securely communicate over the web to the SQL database?

Sep 9, 2011I'm trying to learn how to make multilingual apps. All defaults text for controls are saved in Form1.resx (Created automatically by VB.NET). I've set the Localizable property to True and Language to German(Austria). So far so good and VB.NET created the file Form1.de-AT.resx.Both resource file contain text for the different controls on the form. When I click on a particular button on the form, I want a custom message to be displayed according to the language setting/resource file in use.In both Form1.resx and Form1.de-AT.resx i've added another row for the custom message. How do I write the code so that when the button is clicked, it retrieves the custom message from the appropriate resource file? [code]Another thing, is Localization only for changing language or does it affect date and number formats also? Just asking because if a PC Regional Options settings is set to English(United Kingdom) and I do 5/2 the result is 2.5. May 29, 2012What I am looking for here is a way to possibly click a button inside a web browser control and have it call a sub from inside the program or have the program react to something on the page. I am trying to make a HTML5 GUI for my application. I don't really want use any 3rd party API's to handle commands from a HTML5 interface but if I can find another alternative that would be good. But if there is no other way I would be content with using a 3rd party API.

PHP Communicate With .net App?
Mar 15, 2010I'm working on a little app which needs to recieve information from a script on a web server. I tried to have the vb.net app pole a php web page for a command every half of a second. This worked but, the app is streaming video and every time the app needs to pole the webpage the video stutter stops. I tried setting the pole timer to 5 seconds and still every 5 seconds the video stutters. I thought that maybe sockets would be the answer, so I looked for examples of vb.net socket servers and php socket clients. I tried implementing a solution but the php cannot seem to connect to the vb.net server. I googled around and saw that maybe php cannot communicate with a vb.net application.

I would like to put this instead in a service, so that any of our in house products can send the service a message to place a phone call. Is there a way to neatly tie all this information together. If a guest moves to a different table I have to change a large number of variables (number of guests served by server, table set to empty, new table sat...etc etc.)?
