what WPF based apps are?Is it an application that runs under Silverlight? If so, how?I know; Windows Forms based apps, console apps,DLL _ Class Library Projectsand I've had an introduction to ASP.Net.What I mostly want to know is, if WPF apps are for Silverlight then do they also run in a server based fashion like anASP.NET website would when you create ASP.Net webpages? Is it a way of creating what looks like a FORMS BASED application but it runs in a browser instead or what? Please enlighten me a bit further as I have no idea what WPF is all about.
I'm trying to learn how to make multilingual apps. All defaults text for controls are saved in Form1.resx (Created automatically by VB.NET). I've set the Localizable property to True and Language to German(Austria). So far so good and VB.NET created the file Form1.de-AT.resx.Both resource file contain text for the different controls on the form. When I click on a particular button on the form, I want a custom message to be displayed according to the language setting/resource file in use.In both Form1.resx and Form1.de-AT.resx i've added another row for the custom message. How do I write the code so that when the button is clicked, it retrieves the custom message from the appropriate resource file? [code]Another thing, is Localization only for changing language or does it affect date and number formats also? Just asking because if a PC Regional Options settings is set to English(United Kingdom) and I do 5/2 the result is 2.5. If it's set to German(Austria) the result returned is 2,5But in VB.NET, if I use Thread. CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New CultureInfo("de-AT") (i.e German-Austria) the result returned for 5/2 is 2.5 and not 2,5

i developing a small program for work. This program will run on multiable computers within my work. This program will access a ms database which will be held on the company network. What i need to do is check if any users have the database open on their desktop. I know how to check if the database is open on a local machine but i am not sure how to check if it is open on another users machine or what i could research around this, any direction would be great. My code for checking if the process is running on a local machine :
I have various projects that use reflection to access and invoke private or internal members in some of the framework classes. These projects all work fine on my machine (running visual basic express 2008), but are they guaranteed to work on another machine, or, say, over a network? I've had a look at Reflection-Permission, but I'm not sure if I need that granting to me or if I grant it to my project!
According to MSDN, the Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon method cannot accept a UNC pathname, which I think is totally absurd. Does anyone know of a work-around to extract the icon of a file on a network?
I want to use the function of fsutil, which can create the symbolic link for me. I have try to code in vb.net web application to call the cmd and input the command needed for create symbolic link, exampleit can be created a symbolic link between the two file under a local system network. But if I use the function for network, it cannot works because the IIS is not giving permission for those function. I wish to use it on network, using the Internet InformationMy vb.net code as below:
Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim info As New ProcessStartInfo
I have an application that requires data be entered, and after entering, a button is clicked to process that data. Clicking the button works just as it should--the data is processed properly. In constructing a test module, I provide a set of data values, followed by:
btnWhatever.PerformClick()
Nothing happens. I have used this syntax for years, and it has always worked flawlessly. I have triple checked everything else and isolated the problem to the failure of the PerformClick(). The PerformClick() is in a test subroutine that does nothing but fill textboxes and labels with default data, then calls the PerformClick() on the button to begin processing. Again, the button works fine, the data is entered as it should be, but the PerformClick() does not fire the click event.
Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:
I'd like to build a program which shares files between two computers. My method for doing that is setting up a home network, basically, on one computer, put a file there, and share that file on the network. The other computer would then connect to the network (through my application) and find the file and read it. I know this is very long. I would just like you to help me start up.How do I create a wireless network ENTIRELY THROUGH VB during the initial setup of the application? I don't want the user to deal with creating the network himself.
My.Computer.Network.UploadFile("C:UsersPhillipDesktop est.txt", "http://10.0.0.2/c:/text.txt", "my username, "mypassword") but it does not work...whats the proper format for entering a location to a computer over the network?Also... whats a way to send a file to a computer over the internet such as my friends computer... The reason I am doing this is because I plan to make some programs that run based on text files and a basic example of this is a chat program... but I do plan for other things as well...
and it worked... now how can I send over the internet... Also is there another way i can send over the network like using the IP instead of computer name? Also how do I send it to other computers?
i've been working with multiple forms. here's the situation.. i have 2 forms form1 and form2 every time i show the form2 from the cmd Bttn in form1 then i close and reopen it again it always prompts me with disposal error.
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section but I don't know where else to post.I am new to vb.net and would like to tackle it head on.I would like to know how to make a network moitoring tool thatwould check who is on the network. I cant find any tutorials.
i have a NAS drive that is mapped to my system..My application will copy files to the drive but the only problem is the drive has a sleep function on it therefore when i try to copy files to it and it is in sleep mode, it says the folder does not exist (drive still in my computer but just with a red X on it)is there a function to make ir ready ? the only other way to do it is to double click the drive icon in my computer then it wakes up... but id rather not do this as its a pain.

I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and I am begginer in computer networks. I want to make two PCs communicate via network using server/client I followed the example from this site: [URL] (VB.NET TCP Client/Server Socket Commmunications) When I run the applications server and client in one computer then is possible the client to connect with server.
I was referred to this forum section for VB2008 questions instead of VB6, so Ill assume this is the right place to ask this question. Yes I copy/pasted.I'm EXTREMELY new to VB2008 and I was basically making a program that is used for "password storage" that will be used only by me, I have made a simple login page that will not allow new usernames/passwords and a simple text box-listbox-add-delete page for submitting and displaying what I wish. What Im trying to do is make it so every time I open the listbox form, you are prompted with the login form. Im not sure of a proper term for this as I just downloaded VB2008 2 days ago.
I used the ODBC Data Sources admin panel to create a "data source" for an ".mdb" file. This was very easy. I can access the mdb (database) file via an ODBC driver, locally. However I need to access this data source over the network. Can anyone please help me learn how to make this same database available on the host's network interface? Perhaps there is a tutorial, video, or some other documentation that explains how to modify a data source to make it available on the network. I am using Windows XP. I hope this does not require a special Windows server distribution.
