I have various projects that use reflection to access and invoke private or internal members in some of the framework classes. These projects all work fine on my machine (running visual basic express 2008), but are they guaranteed to work on another machine, or, say, over a network? I've had a look at Reflection-Permission, but I'm not sure if I need that granting to me or if I grant it to my project!

I'm practicing how to work properly with the reflection to create a module/plugin-based application.So I found a simple example which is working great, but it isn't dynamic enough, 'cause it is hard-coded. My ASP.NET 4.0 Web App is unable to access Network Printers, while debugging on VS 2010. It can access local printers. Seems like it may be a permissions issue. Since VS2010 Debugging runs on ASP.NET Development Server, it must be running under the account I used to log into Windows, right? Does that user need to be added as an Admin in that printers users? Is there any account that I can impersonate to get this working?

One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. i developing a small program for work. This program will run on multiable computers within my work. This program will access a ms database which will be held on the company network. What i need to do is check if any users have the database open on their desktop. I know how to check if the database is open on a local machine but i am not sure how to check if it is open on another users machine or what i could research around this, any direction would be great. View 2 RepliesI have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

I've added an FTP client to a batch publishing program that I wrote about a year ago. The batch program "publishes" CAD files from "Pro/E" to "eDrawings". Upon publishing, some of "eDrawings" files are automatically uploaded to an external server via the newly written FTP client.The publisher and FTP client are working great.I'd like to add functionality that automatically changes the permissions on the files I'm uploading to our unix server (RHEL5). When I do this via SSH, I simply utilize a chmod command (i.e. chmod 0755 file.htm).I'm using VB.Net's DirectCast in my FTP Client.Is it possible to change the permissions on the files I'm uploading via FTP once they're on the server as part of the file uploading process?

But if I grant it write permission I don't get the error. Why would the executable need write permissions? I'm not writing anything to the root where it resides.

Brief overview of the situation is that my neighbors can't connect their Vista laptop to a shared folder on their computer running XP Home. They're getting access errors which I believe is because of the rights set on the folder. The problem is that XP Home won't let you adjust that and they're not upgrading.
I'm able to add the Everyone user to the directory I specify. But if I drag a new folder in or create a new folder, it does not have the Everyone user. Is there something I'm missing in this class that will let subfolders and files inherit the permissions?

View 4 RepliesI'm creating an application that works with another I have no control over. My application needs to be able to create a user and change share permissions. Currently I am able to make a share, but I can't figure out how to set access permissions for that share.
The idea is that the newly created user (w/ password) will have permissions on the share I create.
I've got two programs, one is the main and the other is the updater. So far iv'e got it so that the main program checks for an update by comparing its version number with the latest one that's stored as a text file on the server. If there's a newer one, the update program is started and the main one closed. The update program will then use a web browser component to navigate to the download link and download the new version. The only problem I'm having at the moment is, How can I get the new downloaded version to replace the current one in Program Files? and will this cause permission problems?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to create an application that will play a movie file, then when it has played the movie, give the user 30 seconds then shut the system down. i have so far made it so that it does everything i need expect when the code for the additional 30 seconds is up i get the following error:

I tried searching for this issue but the search gives me a database exception and I'm kind of at my wit's end. I'm sureEver since I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional I've had constant build problems with VS 2008. I can't use the Hosting Process (not that I normally do) because at build I'll be notified VS could not copy a support file (the hosting exe). In addition, every time I build I'm told my previous exe is in use by another process and cannot be accessed. My only recourse is to manually delete the file. That works a few dozen times but eventually Windows stops letting me delete it and tells me that I require permission from an Administrator to make changes to the file (I'm the administrator, stupid machine).

I have a form that works on my local Machine I created into. I have Office 2007 on this machine. I created the Form with the Excel 12 Reference. I move the Entire conetence of the Project folder to my work computer. Which has Office 2003. Do I need to recreate the form with the Excel 11 reference. I could not get the form to work on work computer. IT has a com error. I am acessing the EXE for the debug folder w/in the Bin Folder.

Instead of having to change my test harness every time I add a new property, I'd (ideally) like to be able to serialise the lot as an XML string and just display that in a textbox.
Unfortunately, the Framework won't use the default XML serializer on read-only properties (which almost all of mine are) as they wouldn't deserialize properly [Not sure I agree with the assumption that anything serialized must be de-serializable - MS says this is a feature "by design" which I suppose I can understand - Perhaps a tag to indicate that it should be serialized anyway would be advantageous?]
The initial approach was to make properties gettable and settable (with a throw exception on the setter) but the amount of work tidying this up afterwards seems a little excessive and I would want the properties to be read-only in the final version.What I need help with:My current plan is to use reflection to recursively iterate through each (public) property of my topmost gathering class. The problem is, the samples I've seen don't handle things recursively. Additionally, I only want to inspect an object's properties if it's in one of my assemblies - Otherwise just call .ToString on it.
If I don't have the inspection limited to my assembly, I assume I'll get (say) a string which then contains a Length which in turn will have .Tostring method.For the purposes of this project, I can almost guarantee no circular references within my code and as this will only be used as a development tool so I'm not too concerned about it running amok now and then.
