Im usig VS2008 and I want to make my program to run in in tray (right side of the taskbar) in hide like Antivirus or Tuneup Utility do. Such that it open at start up and goes to that tray and can give message like window security alert.

my program has a tray icon and i want it to show up in the system tray. so i went into my windows notification area and set it to show icon for my app. But when my app update to a new version with clickonce, it will think its a new app and i have to set it again. Is there a way that it will treat all new version as the same program and i dont have to keep setting it?

Im trying to make an application that when you press X, the program gets put in system tray. But i have like no idea how i'm suppost to do that, so did a search on google and found this code. Only VB2010 (what i use) doesn't like the fourth line. Can anybody give me a quick tutorial on this, and make this work in VB 2010?
My FormLoad event contains a simple line which is Me.Hide. Then I make the tray icon visible so the application can be shown if the user needs it. However, the Me.Hide statement doesn't work during the form load procedure. It seems to work fine after the form has been loaded. So, my question is, how can I simply stop the form from becoming visible in the first place or hide it after it has loaded?

I'm trying to create a program that when I press the X or _ buttons on the form it minimizes to the notification area(system tray). I did find some stuff but didn't understand were to put the code I just have some basic knowledge in VB.net. What I read was something about the formclosing event

and well it sort of works to what I want but don't know were to go from there.. what I read from another post was that I had to do something with "NotifyIcon Class" but still didn't know what to do with that or where to put the code.
Basically what I want the program to do is minimize to system tray and a tooltip will pop up when I hover my mouse over it and display something that I want. Also when I right click the icon I would like some options to be displayed so that I could program it to close.
I wrote code for checking whether a particular process (Outlook.exe, in my case) is running or not. It is working fine when the Outlook window is open or minimized. But, when the Outlook is minimized to tray (which on the right side of taskbar), my code is not identifying the process.Could anyone please suggest me a way to get the process of Outlook (or any other program) that is minimized to tray?

View 10 RepliesI found some great code on capturing webcam images but the problem is the client PC will need to initiate the communication to this server (click Connect to server IP). This is like 2 way communication.How can i do something like this (door Kiosk system):when a visitor press a button on the LCD that come along a web cam (this will be the server), it will send the signal the client PC that is installed with the application i've created (window form) and pop up the images to the client PC (more like a 1 way communication). This image is captured through the web cam on the server to capture the visotor's image waiting outside of the door. I am trying to make the program close if the -1 string is sent with the program. See my installer allows for me to run certain programs before it actually installs, but it doesn't shut down copies of the program itself. So I have a next startup instance set to shut the program down if the -1 is received. But if the program is not running it starts up instead. This is not desired. form1.close doesn't work. e.cancel = true doesn't work, etc etc. What can I do to make the program not start during this instance.
I made vb.net program for 1440x900 resolution, if i run my program on 800x600 or 1024x768, my program's resolution is bigger then windows, so i have problem with resolution. Now i want to change my program's size and i am interested in, wich resolution is correct to make program, 800x600 such as minimum?
