how to go about populating some text boxes with results from calculations. To be more specific, I'm trying to do some trig to calculate various parts of a ci0rcle and will be populating any two of the text boxes then click on a button to get the missing values. I was thinking along the lines of a loop until all values have been calculated.
View 14 RepliesI have a form that is used at design-time to configure various properties. I've tried two ways to do a form-level catch all exception:
(1) I add a handler to Application.ThreadException in the constructor.
(2) I wrap the Show method, of the form, in a Try/Catch block
Both of these work at run-time when I test by adding a property grid to a form and set my component as the SelectedObject. However, at design-time the form simply closes with no message whatsoever; neither my message nor any message explaining that there is an unhandled exception. This is not about debugging at design-time. It's about how to present the user with a friendly message when my type editor encounters an unhandled exception.
This may be a debugger issue, but here goes:I have this piece of code:
Private Function Connect() As Boolean
Try
sessionBegun = False[code].....
My intention is to 'convert' the low level exception into something more meaningful, so I throw an exception of my own creation. I want this to bubble up to a place where I can handle it.However what is happening is my debugger breaks and tells me that an exception of type "QuickBooksConnectionException" was thrown.I know that, I just threw it, why are you catching it? From what I've read, this ought to work, and there doesn't appear to be an analogous Java throws keyword, so perhaps it is my debugger.
well i am having a couple of issues with this particular homework problem and this is my first programming class so there is probably quite a few mistakes well the homework problem is to take three double values entered by a user and display the largest and smallest using math.max and math.min and display the smallest and largest so i thought i could use a listbox and take the values that went to the listbox and assign variables to each so i can try to use each variable in the math.max and min but im not making it to far and i actually might be way off

When I start to save only one record from collection, no error was found, but when I start to save more than 2 records in database table then it can save only the first record and it can not continue to save the second record.The exception was that:
InvalidOperationException was caught ExecuteScalar requires the command to have a transaction when the connection assigned to the command is in a pending local transaction. The Transaction property of the command has not been initialized.

What is the list of exceptions that CAN'T be caught in .NET? Or where can I find such a list?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to loop through and insert data into an excel template i have created. It works the first time, always the first time and never again after. All the values are correct and should work, I dont understand why it wont. Here is my code, there is an '>' beside the line that throws an error.

I am converting an existing classic ASP website to (VB) MVC and I don't want any of the existing URLs to break. I have read many posts (like this one: Routing Classic ASP Requests To .NET - SEO Redirects) about how to do the proper 301 redirect. With the latest MVC release, I've gathered that
Response.RedirectPermanent(objRedirect.new_url, True)is all that is needed.
I have entered all of my old URLs in a database table with a corresponding column of the new URL. I have added code in my custom 404 page to get the original URL:
Dim strURL As String = Request.RawUrl.Substring(Request.RawUrl.IndexOf("aspxerrorpath=") + 15).ToLower()
so I can look it up in the database. (Interesting sidenote, MSDN's documentation here - Redirect Mode - seems to say that if I set RedirectMode=ResponseRewrite in the CustomErrors section of my web.config, I won't have to worry about doing the above, but when I've tried that, I get IIS errors saying it won't serve an ASP page?The problem I am encountering is that any of my old, Classic ASP URLs that have the same directory as a new MVC route are somehow being partially routed. For example, "/test/default.asp" shows up as "/test/test" in the above strURL variable of my error page.

Is it possible to catch the combined key presses of Ctrl-Alt-Delete so that event can be handled?
View 9 RepliesI've tried to Google this problem, but haven't found any relevant results.I am trying to handle HTTP 500 errors when logging into a web service (the web service returns 500 when login is incorrect). An WebException is thrown, but I can't seem to catch it properly. The exception is highlighted in green instead of the normal yellow (having trouble finding info on this as well)

I generate emails from my website to deliver order notifications to my customers.Some of these emails are treated as spam by spam filters. I've used MailingCheck to examine the emails and one of the problems contributing to it being identified as spam is:PRIORITY_NO-NAME Message has priority but no user agent nameIs there anyway within asp.net that I can resolve this problem? It is possible to catch an exception and throw a new exception which wraps the first exception as an inner exception: [URL] Also, if I call a function and it throws a certain error, but I catch it, will the calling code's catch handler execute? If so, and it is of a higher exception type, is this not wrapping the exception? eg I can throw exception ex of type IndexOutOfRange, log it but rethrow, catch a higher up exception and do something, or I can throw a new exception and wrap an inner exception like:
View 1 RepliesI am currently trying to send Email but am stuck with the GeneralFailure error caught with try and catch. I got the sample code somewhere off the internet last week and modified it when I have the chance.

Is there anything unnecessary, missing or am I on the wrong track? Right now I am trying to test send a mail from hotmail to gmail or another live account. Also, I have tried searching through the internet for a solution and some said I need to have IIS which I had it installed for it to work. Another said I need to add a reference but did not specify it. Those were pretty old messages though.
I have a DataGridView which displays info from a Database. I need a couple of the columns to be able to do basic calculations such as +, - etc - nothing more complicated really. I am a bit stuck as to how to gte this working.I have tried the code below with no joy:[code...]

I'm very new to programing and am having problems trying to perform some calculations with a list. I have read in an array into a list with a count attached to each item example: "xxxxxx(intcount)". What I'm trying to do it use two xxxxxx(intcount)'s at xxxxxx(intcount+5) and xxxxxx(intcount+25) and use these two variables to calculate yyyyyy(intcount) but it isn't working. I understand this may be a stupid question but could someone please point me in the right direction.

View 6 RepliesI am trying to do math (-, +, *, etc) based on what a user selects from a combo box. The combo has the operators (-, +, *, /) in its items list. when the user selects one of them, I want to use that operator with the two numbers the user also provides from two text boxes.
dim intNumOne as integer
dim intNumTwo as integer
dim intAnswer as integer

'I don't think I want to concatenate here. but this is what I would like to happen (use the operator based on the users selection from the combo and the two numbers from the text boxes. I know I could write a select case or If statement but is there a way to do what I'm trying to do without Select Case or If? I tried to make theOperator a 'char' type variable but that didn't work either.
I'm developing an app in which there's hundreds of different calculations involved and would like for my app's admins to be able to tweak these calculations by specifying the formulas.For example, my database table contains price and quantity. One of the columns 'X' might contain "(price * quantity) over the past 7 days". How can I allow my app's admins to change the calculation from "7 days" to "14 days"?
Is there some way to make calculations dynamic within VB.NET or do I have to rely on stored procedures and write some code to alter those procedure if a change is needed? What are the best practices in this type of a scenario?Ideally, I would like to use something similar to the "Tags" box used when posting questions on here to bring up the available fields and add mathematical operators in between them to perform calculations. It might be adding more complexity, but would be great if an existing calculation isn't overwritten so that it could be used in building a new formula.

I have to use some calculations now and then and sometimes those will give me inf, and sometimes they work, this makes my app very inaccurate...Now i dont know what is causing this, im not dividing zero so far i can see..
(3 + Math.Sqrt(5)) ^ ...
It works for single numbers, But how would i retrieve the ?double? of bigger numbers without getting INF?With bigger numbers i mean really big, like 1477014138.
i want to add calculations in 1 private function I have a textbox named lbldisplay.text when i enter a number.. the number is shown as a string so.. -private number1 as string when i press the button "+", "*", "-", or "/" the number1 must return into a double. So the number in the textbox is now a double.. so for example i press the + button, and i need to fill in a new number.. but this new number is also a string!

I cannot figure out why my calculation is not working. I am doing for 1 to 12 and it gives me 12 inputs but counts my entries as 13? What am I missing. If I change it to 0 to 11 same thing. I am not sure what the issue is, but I cannot see it, and am not sure where to look.I need to end up with 12 cycles through and intEntries to be 12.

As part of an assignment, I need to add numbers which are displayed in a rich text box. The numbers are read from a text box. The user needs to be able to input the numbers as many times as possible. Since, the numbers all come from the same text box, I am unsure how to retain the old information and add the new information to it.Since I am not really able to make my point clear, I attach this picture: RTB.PNGAs you can see, I also have a problem with the heading repeating itself.
