1) How do I load the forms from the dll into this project at runtime?
2) How do I set the client to be the MDiParent of the forms that will be opened from the dll?

Nov 28, 2008I have a menu strip. In the menu strip I have something for some saved urls in the database, I called it Bookmarks. So I'm trying to fetch the items from the database and have it load in to the menu items.. but it keeps adding items and I only want them added once.

Jul 25, 2011I've developed a derived form class that contains various collections of data. Corresponding to this data, I have a series of custom controls which can be linked to said data. I do this via custom UITypeEditors that convert the Custom Controls' Form into my derived Form Class Type and filling in a ListBox with the relevant data for the control in question. When the controls are serialized by the designer, it only stores the index value.
The above all works fine. However, I have found 1 bug that I am trying to work out - which is that, during Design Time, Custom Controls that are placed in sub containers (like a Tab Control) will fire their Load Event BEFORE they are placed inside of the Form. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? OR is there an event which occurs when the Controls are truly placed inside of a form (and not merely a sub container)?
EDIT: Upon Further Inspection, this problem only occurs with the Tab Control and not with other sub containers like Group Boxes, Split Panes, etc.
VS 2005 - Gotchas With Docked Forms - Forms - Displayed Using Menu Items To Display Information To User
Nov 10, 2011We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

Aug 3, 2009I'm very green with VB Express 2008 and am going through the tutorial. I'm skipping over a lot of the exercises as some of it is review for me - I've a fairly solid background in MS Access VBA and forms design there. But I have a simple question on VB Express forms design (I'm not worried about data handling or anything yet).How do I test a form? In my first form on my project, I just press F5 (Start debugging) and it opens just fine. However, I'm playing around with a second form in design mode and can't seem to get it to open to test some of the code (simple msgboxes associated with buttons).
In Access 2003 and earlier, there was a design mode and form view. The Access design mode was the equivalent of the design tab in the VB project, but I can't seem to find the equivalent of the Access form view in VB so that I can open that form. VB F5 only seems to open the first form.BTW, is VS 2008 the correct tag/prefix for this question on VB Express 2008? I see there's a separate tag list - is there an approved list of tags aside from the prefix before the title in the posting screen?

Nov 14, 2010how to implement a classic layout design in vb.net (2.0).The application design is the classical toolbar panel at the top and different panels stacked at the bottom. Depending on the button pressed at the top in the toolbar panel a different panel at the bottom will be available.This is thought to have different part of the software available on different panel but with the toolbar panel always available at the top.To implement this I thought:
1) one tablelayout with 2 rows. First row contain a panel with the button (toolbar panel) and adding/removing hte correct panel requested on the bottom row.
Forms Are Shown BLANK In Design View ?
Jun 21, 2010I have developed a win form application using vb.net 2.0, mistakenly my vbproj file deleted. Now the issue is that when i open the solution in the design view all my forms ( 170 + ) shown blank. but when i run the application all the controls are properly displayed and application is running fine. Issue is why all forms are shown BLANK in design view , as i cant make any changes to the design now.

Next I have some labels on another form, that due to the design can't be in seperate panels. They are (lblChipColor1 - 6) and (lblChipValue1 - 7). I am trying to populate the color ones from the Array above. I can obviously loop thru the array, but I can't find a decent way to loop thru just the lblChipColorx lables ignoring the lblChipValue1x labels. It would be easy if they were on seperate panels. I tried adding the labels names to an array of type string and of type label, but got nowhere with that. Is there another way to group them, or build const array of label names, that I can work with?

May 6, 2011I have a project which still runs fine without issue however i dont seem to be able to access the design view of Form1. The icon in soultions explorer has also changed from a form to a sinple vb reference. Im unable to right click in solutions explorer and view designer as there is no option there.

Oct 19, 2011I was wondering if there is any advantage to do everything programmatically instead of using design view to create forms, controls etc. Would there be any difference in size and/or performance after you compile it? So far I've been doing pretty much everything programmatically, specifying all the properties that aren't default for my forms controls but I am starting to wonder is there are any advantages to this, apart from making it easier (sometime) to manage and change the behavior of my controls.

Jun 17, 2010I'm writing a small software similar to the calculator in Windows, the calculator in Windows has a menu bar; in the menu bar, you can find "scientific" and "standard" mode; once you select different mode, your form will be changed, but the two forms still share the same menu bar.
I want to create the same effect of this:
1. Two forms, only one is visible at any time
2. The menu bar on the top of the two forms should be shared between these forms

Apr 30, 2009I want to use the same menu shortcut keys in a MDI child as in the parent...the problem is that the parent seems to receive the Event first and is calling his menu entry. The child (though it does have the focus) does never receive any event whatsoever...I can bypass this behaviour by adding a Textbox to the Menu, and the moment that one has the focus the menu shortcuts are working as expected (child gets it first, after that it's passed through to the parent).
