View 2 Replieswhy when I use My.Settings to Add items during design mode, they do not show up during run mode?
This is for a custom control.
I'm missing something between the control that exists on a Form during design-mode and the (apparently new) control that's created during run mode.
I can add items in design mode using the Application Settings editor (right-click on custom control, select Properties then Settings). But when I use code in a smart panel during design-mode along with My.Settings.MyProperty.Add() to add additional items, the new items show-up in design mode but revert back to the old set during run-mode.
Im converting some Crystal reporting functions from VB 6.0 to VB .Net 2008, have reports up and running, and Im not quite sure how to approach one aspect. The issue I have is most of the Crystal reports connect to a database and run a stored procedure. The connection properties are set up in the report usually pointing at the development region. At run time I need to be pointing to either development, user acceptance, or production. I know what environment Im in from a configuration file but dont know how to go about telling Crystal what environment and stored procedure to point at. In VB 6.0 it was:
CR1.Connect = "DSN=" & A.ReportServer & ";<<Use Integrated Security>>;DSQ=" & A.ReportManhattanDB
Where A.ReportServer and A.ReportManhattanDB contain the connection poperties. The stored procedure is passed via:

I have an application built that has several forms. I use an XML file to store settings data (mainly folder names for data output) and I need each form to be able to access and modify the data. I'd also like each form to access functions from a main form (such as file parsing functions). I have read articles about properties and inheritance but I need some guidance as this topic is pretty confusing.

When I open a project created on a PC of XP SP3 and 24" widescreen in another PC of XP SP3 and 22" widescreen, the design of forms including the form size and layout of the components (sizes & locations) changed.
View 5 RepliesI' ve a small project with few forms. i want to design a menu a one form so that when user clicks on the menu item respective form loads in project.
View 1 RepliesI'm very green with VB Express 2008 and am going through the tutorial. I'm skipping over a lot of the exercises as some of it is review for me - I've a fairly solid background in MS Access VBA and forms design there. But I have a simple question on VB Express forms design (I'm not worried about data handling or anything yet).How do I test a form? In my first form on my project, I just press F5 (Start debugging) and it opens just fine. However, I'm playing around with a second form in design mode and can't seem to get it to open to test some of the code (simple msgboxes associated with buttons).
In Access 2003 and earlier, there was a design mode and form view. The Access design mode was the equivalent of the design tab in the VB project, but I can't seem to find the equivalent of the Access form view in VB so that I can open that form. VB F5 only seems to open the first form.BTW, is VS 2008 the correct tag/prefix for this question on VB Express 2008? I see there's a separate tag list - is there an approved list of tags aside from the prefix before the title in the posting screen?
I'm developing with VB.NET 2008.One of my host was crashed, so I take the files and keep development on another host. But now something strange is happening:All frames, lines and shapes are disappeared on design-time, but are seen normally in runtime.

how to implement a classic layout design in vb.net (2.0).The application design is the classical toolbar panel at the top and different panels stacked at the bottom. Depending on the button pressed at the top in the toolbar panel a different panel at the bottom will be available.This is thought to have different part of the software available on different panel but with the toolbar panel always available at the top.To implement this I thought:
1) one tablelayout with 2 rows. First row contain a panel with the button (toolbar panel) and adding/removing hte correct panel requested on the bottom row.
I have developed a win form application using vb.net 2.0, mistakenly my vbproj file deleted. Now the issue is that when i open the solution in the design view all my forms ( 170 + ) shown blank. but when i run the application all the controls are properly displayed and application is running fine. Issue is why all forms are shown BLANK in design view , as i cant make any changes to the design now.
View 8 RepliesI am familer with looping thru controls like so:
[Code]....
Next I have some labels on another form, that due to the design can't be in seperate panels. They are (lblChipColor1 - 6) and (lblChipValue1 - 7). I am trying to populate the color ones from the Array above. I can obviously loop thru the array, but I can't find a decent way to loop thru just the lblChipColorx lables ignoring the lblChipValue1x labels. It would be easy if they were on seperate panels. I tried adding the labels names to an array of type string and of type label, but got nowhere with that. Is there another way to group them, or build const array of label names, that I can work with?
I have a project which still runs fine without issue however i dont seem to be able to access the design view of Form1. The icon in soultions explorer has also changed from a form to a sinple vb reference. Im unable to right click in solutions explorer and view designer as there is no option there.
View 6 RepliesI made a very simple web browser with three forms last night, saved the project and came to re-open it this morning only to find that form1 and form2 cannot be edited in anything but code mode now.Very confused. Am using Visual Basic Express 2008 on Windows 7 x64.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering if there is any advantage to do everything programmatically instead of using design view to create forms, controls etc. Would there be any difference in size and/or performance after you compile it? So far I've been doing pretty much everything programmatically, specifying all the properties that aren't default for my forms controls but I am starting to wonder is there are any advantages to this, apart from making it easier (sometime) to manage and change the behavior of my controls.
View 10 RepliesI'm working in VS 2008, on a windows application.I have many forms, and I'm in the process of redesigning the GUI.Is there anything that I can do to standard some of the placement of the controls. For example, I have a header for each page, at a certain size and location. Instead of going to each form, is there a way to do the settings once, and apply to many forms?
View 2 RepliesI've been trying to get my head round a problem for days now, I want to read 'File.ini' line by line checking if specific text exists in the file and then display on a windows form weather particular settings are turned on or off.
So far this code works if "TargetText" exists but if it doenst I get an error on the code line: "If line.Contains("TargetText") Then".
[Code]...
It works if "TargetText" existin in a line in the file but if it doesnt exist I get the 'Null Reference Exception. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' Any suggestions greatfully recieved!
I have set the name of my Form text in the application settings and I need to rewrite it. Is it possible as it is showing me that it is only a readonly.I know that we can simply change it by using me.text="" But I have a problem in my application as I have the below code where On every time the form loads it is erasing the text.
Protected Overrides Sub OnLayout(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.LayoutEventArgs)
MyBase.OnLayout(e)
'Me.Text = CStr(Val(Me.Text) + 1)
FillList()

I have a question how can I save in My.Settings only the font name and not the size.I have a form where I can change the font for a label on another form. This works perfect.I can even save it in my.settings.
The thing is though, that on that other form I have 2 labels, thet should have the same font name, but the size should be different. (label1 has font size = 40 (can be changed) and label2 should have a fixed font size (should not be changed)).I tried to use label2.font.size = "14", but font.size is readonly.
My first post! im quite new to programming but loving every minute of it.Basically i want to open another exe file from vb.net 2010. i can do it normally using
system.Diagnostics.Process.Start _ ("c:winamp.exe") if winamp for example is installed on another pc in another location i want to run it from my program but i want there to be sort of like a settings.txt file where you can edit the path to winamp and my program should first read the path set in the settings file and then open accordingly. how do i go about doing this?
btw it would be great if you could point me in the right direction for making a windows form where one can edit the settings file within my program without editing the settings file in notepad
trying to save the settings in a settings form but every time m setting the settings (when the form is running) then exiting it and then reopening itare the settings that i setted not there Ex : I open form2 by clicking on a button thought form1 and change the settings for example i uncheck a checkbox then do i close form2 and then open it again. And the settings should be saved so the unchecked checkbox should still be unchecked.BUT when i close form1 should the settings be unsaved and go back to normal :)

View 3 RepliesI seem to have reached a limit on the size of the form. I cannot make the form longer and I need to add more fields. Is there a limit on how many fields can be included in a form?
View 1 RepliesI searched codeplex and google. I have found so many such as tustena but unfortunately they are not domain driven based and in these solutions I could not find a good modelling documents or references. i am a newbie in CRM but I am sensetive to design it with solid object-oriented fundamentals. Any reference or open source solution especifically for CRM design and implementaion in .NET? Cheers

View 1 Repliesi have a splitter control on tab 2, a grid and a scheduler control on tab 3..looks fine...i save it....close the form...reopen the form, and the controls are all resized and moved around on me....and not for the better.
wierd thing is that when i run the app, the controls are placed properly, but design time is totally f&*ked up.I know this one isn't me. is it the tab control? should i just do toggle buttons at the top and show/hide my own panels? this is just too freaky to deal with. is there an easy work around for this?
[Code] I want like to check if a file exist on main form, if not: force open settings form. And then when the user is closing the form with exit button = check if the file exist again. If it doesn't exist, close application. It's a huge application and I need optimized on most parts. Also, the settings form is asking the closing question two times.
View 1 RepliesThe company has been using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0 for approximately 2 years. During that time we released several versions (4.x.x) of our program to the public and were able to preserve the user's settings using My.Settings.Upgrade.During the past development cycle we upgraded the program to Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0 and changed the version to 5.x.x. Now, when a user upgrades from 4.x.x to 5.x.x they lose all of their settings.However, in all upgrades after that point (ie 5.0 to 5.1) all the user's settings are once again preserved.I checked C:Documents and Settings<USER_NAME>Local SettingsApplication DataCompanyName and it contains two directories:
ApplicationName_Url_aaa ApplicationName_Url_bbb
where aaa and bbb are 32 character strings. All of the user.config files for the 4.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_ Url_aaa directory. All of the user.config files for the 5.x.x releases can be found in the ApplicationName_Url_bbb directory.Based on this information it seems like something changed when we converted our program to VS2010 and Framework4 that is now causing a different 32 character string to be generated. However, we have been unable to track it down.
I have the following structure:OLD: frmMain (WinForm)uscStat (UserControl with Grid) In frmMain I'm able to make some settings and load the result of the settings via LinQ into the Grid of the uscStat.
