Forms :: Referencing All Items On Form With Handles Keyword?

I wondered if there was a way of refering to all the items on the form without having to list them all individually in the Handles keyword, which is extremely long winded! VS 2010 Making 'settings' File?
May 11, 2010if we say i have a program and i want it to launch another .exe So the code of them being able to choose where it's located is "openfiledialog".But can i make it save the setting somehow, so it makes a small document/text-file thingy so it can read the locations from the file ?Or is there someway that the program remembers it ? I want it to ask for a file location first, and then next time pushing the button "start" it remembers the location ?

Apr 29, 2011[Code] I want like to check if a file exist on main form, if not: force open settings form. And then when the user is closing the form with exit button = check if the file exist again. If it doesn't exist, close application. It's a huge application and I need optimized on most parts. Also, the settings form is asking the closing question two times.

VS 2008 : Making 'main Window' Form Acting As A Container For The Other Forms?
Mar 17, 2009Am devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window.Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..
I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:
frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me
Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.

Mar 21, 2011We have a vb.net 2010 application with a base form and an inherited form When we change the position of a control coded on the inherited form we lose handles on the events in the inherited form for that control. We also lose the handles on the Load event in the inherited form.

Update: the form 1 would have a image button that opens a form thats form would act like a window. like the ones you use when you open up a folder on your desktop. but it would minmize into the form 1 as an image button caching its info so you can pop it back up.

Apr 14, 2009I am making an application for my school library, which lets the user see how many books have been borrowed, how many returned, and how many that have not been returned. I am using My.Settings to do this. I have no problem saving the settings, or making them change according to how many books have been returned or borrowed, but when I try to load them into a few labels, I get an error.

Aug 12, 2010I'm using My.Settings to store some text information which will be displayed to the user under certain conditions. What I'd like to know is whether part of the text (not all of it) can be formatted in bold?
The reason I'm storing in My.Settings is because it can be customized but not to the extent where I need to store it in a database. And while I'm at it, is it possible to format parts of MessageBox text and labels in bold, or is this an all or not at all situation i.e. changing the font property?
VS 2010 Getting Handles On Controls?
May 23, 2010What i want to do is grab the handle of a webbroswer control and only read the co-ordinates within those bounds. I have successfully manager to do this but the problem i am now having is moving the mouse to those co-ordinates, for some reason after getting the handle and moving the mouse:
Windows.Forms.Cursor.Position = WebBrowser1.PointToClient(New Point(x, y))
It still reads full screen co-ordinates.
Jumping Between Forms - Making A Form Visible And Not Visible
Jul 17, 2009I'm having an odd problem when making a form visible and not visible and it not continuing to function. Here is what I have happening. I have a main form (frmMain) that is an MDIParent. On this form I have a menu to open a second form (frmCalculate) and populate a listview from Items in the database.
As I click or select items in the listview on frmCalculate the tag is read and data is pulled based on the id stored in that tag and fills in various fields on the form. This works great. However, I also have a context menu attached to the listview that allows me to perform a "what if" scenerio on the items I am calculating. When I select this menu, I hide the frmCalculate and open the frmWhatIf form where I can mess around with values on the item I had hilighted in the listview on frmCalculate. Nothing is pulled from or written back to the database here, all the information is filled in from fields on frmCalculate. It just allows me to look at rising costs and how they will affect my margins.... anyway.
If I then close frmWhatIf, it brings my frmCalculate back by setting its visible propery to true (never closed frmCalculate, just hid it). At this point if I click an item in the listview I get an exception for a null reference. IF however I never hide frmCalculate, I can open and close frmWhatIF without ever having an issue. Why do I lose the functionality to select items just by hiding and unhiding the form? As a test I added two menus to the toolbar on frmMain one called hide and one called show. I then opened frmCalculate with original menu item to populate the listview and selected a few items to test that it was working and then using the hide menu I made the form invisible and the show button to bring it back. This yielded the same exception so without even opening frmWhatIf the problem still occurs.

Way Of Re-ordering Handles Without Having To Completely Reformat Form
Jan 31, 2011finally my programme works. It will test the other programme, which is a Bid Tabulation programme allowing up to 10 Supplier Quotes each one having up to 500 line items; handling mixed currencies; many additional lines of specific information; etc.; using any combination of Suppliers and Line Items.However, I thought that I would let you know about some of the things I had to do to make it run.Obviously, the programme can bring up the Bid Tabulation programme very quickly, and then moves on to obtain the handle of the first form. But I had to insert a timing delay in order for the programme to report that it had found the handle; I also had to add the same delay all over the programme in order to see a valid handle number instead of "0".In addition to this I had to cycle through the ChildHandles, as you had indicated in order to get to the handle I needed. This raised another problem. I wanted to enter information in the same sequence as the tab order, but I found that the ChildHandle order was all over the place; generally back to front. In other words the tab order which went from top to bottom, and left to right, whereas the ChildHandle order was sometimes all over the place.
Is there a simple method of rearranging the ChildHandle order, as there is for arranging the tab order? I had to reformat several of my forms in order that entries would make sense. Imagine the table below is a form with 23 TextBoxes. The order that I need them to be filled is from top to bottom, and left to right, but the actual order of the TextBoxes is as below: [code] This message does not really require a resolution to a problem, unless there is a way of re-ordering the handles without having to completely reformat the form.

VS 2010 Form Icon For All Forms?
Apr 4, 2012I have one program with many, many forms in it and the same program is used for two companies. Basically, when a user starts the program the data location is set depending on which of the two companies is being used. Therefore, I am trying to dynamically set the icon for each form based upon which company is being used. I didn't want to add code on every form to set the icon, which is mostly what I found when I was searching for a solution.

When I click the button again, it is unchecked, but the form on the second monitor is still open, while it should be closed.

Feb 10, 2011I have a very large program I would like to write but think starting with a smaller test program would be a good idea. What I want to know is: I have a base Form from which a user clicks a button to answer a question (Answer A, B, C, or D) which if the answer is correct will pop up a "Correct! answer response in a separate window. This is ok for now, however, when the "proceed to next question" button is clicked, I would like the next question to appear in the original base form window.
Right now it pops up in a separate window and I'd rather not have 20 windows open at the end of the quiz. How do I load the next form in the same window!? Obviously it's possible and could be something I'm completely overlooking, and I've also read that I could replace all data with the next Form. I have searched "Visual Basic load form in same window" and came up with results, but none of what I'm looking for.
