I started trying to do this... [URL]...and quickly ran into a problem because I don't have a Windows Class Library project template. The option simply isn't there.[URL]So I start a Windows Application and try adding an Inherited User Control to the project, and I get this error.[URL] Building the current application does nothing for this. I tried browsing to system.windows.forms.dll and nothing happened.

I have tried the dev /installvstemplates from command line and I checked my zipfiles are in the 1033 folder, I think that is where they are meant to be but still no form showing in add new item?

I have been looking at different ways of doing this, and was attempting to connect via Linq to SQL, but found that when I click on the Project menu, and select Add New Item, I do not have anything regarding Linq in the templates.

I believe one or more versions of VB.Net did away with "default instances" for Forms.
1) Was it in the 2003 or 2005 version(s)?
2) With the more recent 2008 and 2010 verions, is it possible to use a template or
change one of the files in the project so that default Form instances are not created?
I was recently looking at some of the other .Vb files in VB.Net 2008 Express Edition.
By the way, just so you know I could install a full version of Visual Studio if need be from;

I new to this Forum and relatively new to VB programming. I have read some really good posts here and thought I would ask about a perplexing problem I'm having. I createdindows Form application, built it and deployed it with no problems. However, when I added a small block of code, re-built the app and went to add the app to the Project Output Group in the file system editor the project was not in the Project drop down list. I closed the Setup project and deleted it from the project folder and checked my code and re-built the app and tried the Set Up project again with the same result

View 7 RepliesI completed my final project for a .NET course two days ago and just noticed today that all my project files for every project I have on my computer (about a dozen or so) are missing all the project files except for what's in the bin folders. The folder structure it seems hasn't been affected.
View 8 RepliesI actually don't care so much about the name of the project as I do the .exe it builds. So I went into the project properties, goto the Application tab and change the Assembly name. But when I build, it loses the resources I've included. It builds w/o errors, but the icon's and pictures I've included are not in the program, and then the IDE gives me errors telling me it can't find those files.
I do have those resources in the program, their persistence is set to "Embedded in .resx" and their Build Action is set to "Resource". They work fine in the designer and show properly, and they build and show fine w/o changing the Assembly name.
When I create a new project in visual studio the New Project screen only has a Name box at the bottom, Location is missing. Is there a setting somewhere I need to set so this shows up?
View 5 RepliesDoes anyone know why there would be no option to create a database project in VS 2008? In the New Project dialog, under Project Types I have no node for Database Projects. I've looked under Other Project Types as well. Every tutorial I read says this option should be in one of those two places, but not for me :-( I do have SQL 2005 installed on this machine.
View 2 RepliesI'm using visual studio express 2008, I wrote my code for a project and then when I tried to debug it I got a few errors but one main one that says this. Visual Studio cannot start debugging because the debug target "".exe is missing Please build the project and retry, or set the output path and assembly names appropriately to point at the correct location of the target assembly. Since this is my first time debugging a program with this particular instance of the program, I am in shock. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Simply copying the web service to Inetpubwwwroot dont work because it is not picked up by the Internet Information Services program. I have to create the web service in vb2003 on the other computer change msconfig manually. Copy and paste the existing service vb file in the created folder replacing the empty vb file.

I am looking to create several custom controls (PictureBox Derivatives) on during runtime. I've read that the best way is to create template controls that will be created, and duplicate them in the Controls array.
Well, that's all fine and dandy, but what's the best way to store the template? I considered a seperate form with all the templates laid out on it for easy access for my editing, and keeping them out of the user's sight. I also considdered doing a Struct for each template, and smply mirroring values onto the control being created from the Struct to the created control.
I'm looking for ease of development first and foremost, as I'm most likely going to have a vast number of these templates, and keeping the system as simple as possible will eliminate a lot of hair-pulling. After development ease, I'd go for optimisation.
Where and how do I look for to access the default templates of say for e.g a checkbox, so that I can modify few styles in it.
