Namespace Reference In .NET MVC3 Razor View In VB?
Jan 25, 2011
How do I reference a Namespace in .NET MVC3 with the Razor view engine?
I understand this can be done in C#:
@using Namespace;
However in VB this doesn't seem to work:
@Imports Namespace
(i'm talking about inside a .vbhtml file)

Using MVC3 and Razor View engine, I created a VB.NET web application in VS 2010. This creates the default Account and Home Controller along with corresponding Action Views.Now if I open any vbhtml file I get the following error message in the Error List window.
Error 50 Syntax error. C:****MVC3AppVBViewsAccountLogOn.vbhtml MVC3AppVB

How do I modify or create my own Html.ActionLink helper to accept and handle the first parameter (linkText) passed in as an empty string / nothing?Details: I currently have a strongly typed view that's passed a model which contains search results. My view loops through each item in the model and attempts to display a link to a contact with the following code:
@Html.ActionLink(currentItem.ContactName, "contact", "details", New With { .id = currentItem.ContactID }, Nothing)
Normally this would work just fine, but not every item in my search result has a ContactName. The Html.ActionLink helper errors when this first parameter is empty. In case it helps, here's the model property for ContactName (which is generated from a template due to Database First, so I don't believe it can be modified):
Public Property ContactName As String
I'd like to have a helper function that simply returns nothing if the ContactName is an empty string / nothing.I'm guessing I need to extend this helper, and I've struggled to find any good, up-to-date resources in VB.net for extending helper functions. Other approaches are more than welcome if they're considered best practice. I'm working in VB.net, MVC3, and Razor in the ASP.net 4.0 framework.

how do I add this htmlAttribute on MVC 3 Razor view?
New With {.watermark = "sometext", .title = "sometext"}
I tried the C# way but it's not working (@watermark) but it's not working.
UPDATE here is the current usage I am trying but it's not working.
@Html.EditorFor(Function(model) model.FirstName, New With {.maxlength = "50"})
This isn't working either
@Html.EditorFor(Function(model) model.FirstName, New Object() {"maxlength=50"})

I have a razor.vbhtml view and would like to use string resources normally accessible via My.Resources. Seems like I can only get to My.Computer, My.Log and couple other namespaces from the view, but not My.Resources. I've tried changing access modifier to public and adding Imports, neither worked.

I have this C# code in a Razor view:
@(Html.CheckBoxFor<RazorSamplesWeb.Models.SamplesModel>(i => i.IsActive))
I tried translating it to this:
@Code Html.CheckBoxFor(Of RazorSamplesWeb.Models.SamplesModel)(Function(i) i.IsActive)End Code
But it's complaining.

I just downloaded the MVC 3.0 RC and I'm excited to start using it, especially the Razor view engine. However, due to a few stick in the mud type people here, we are stuck using VB.NET instead of C#.When I started trying it out, I noticed some quirks. If you are creating a Razor view using CSHTML, you can write code like this:
@foreach(string genreName in Model.Genres)
{
<li>@genreName</li>
}
Razor will automatically detect that the <li> text is an HTML tag and will switch out of "code mode". With a VB.NET VBHTML file, this doesn't seem to be working. It's making me put the @: keyword in front of each line like this:
@For Each genreName As String In Model.Genres
@:<li>@genreName</li>
Next
If I don't have it there, I get a runtime error. Also, the <text></text> tags don't seem to work.

MVC 3, VB.NET. I have a form in my app that gets basic information from the user and then allows them to upload a resume. I am accomplishing this right now by using a redirect to a different form that's only purpose is to select the file for uploading and then submit it.. Sloppy in my opinion.. I have tried to do it from the same form but the file is being lost on submit.. While I am not certain of it I believe it is because I am not using the correct syntax in the form to handle the file.[code]

i have a pretty simple registration wizard form. this is an mvc3 azor project written in vb.my last step displays a partial view with the user's entered details. since the partial can take a split second to load, the form looks odd until it does - a blank form with a couple of buttons. is there a clean, proper way to display a little loading image/message while the partial is loading so it's obvious to the user he/she needs to hold on a sec.
my code for the register view:
$(function () {
$(".wizardstep:first").fadeIn(); // show first step
// attach back button handler
[code]....
the partial view for now is just a dummy display of the model elements.

I even added references to those webmatrix dlls as described here[url]...

I have a vb.net 3.5 class library project that needs to reference two assemblies that have the same namespace. We have two third party dll's in which one is version 5.1 and the other is version 6.1. They have the same dll filename and they utilize the same namespace and functions/class names. The project needs to use one or the other depending on a specific situation. I've investigated up on a c# process that uses the "extern alias" feature to pull in the different assemblies.
[URL]
What use is the Aliases property of assembly references in Visual Studio 8.It seems that this feature isn't fully available for vb.net. Things I've Tried I've renamed the 2nd dll and added both references to my project. At this point I get tons of: 'blah' is ambiguous in the namespace. So I need to alias the different versions. In vb.net you can do aliases on an imports statement like:
Imports version5 = Somedll.Something
The problem is I can't setup an assembly reference alias for the different versions of the dll. Apparently in vb.net you can't set these up in the reference properties window. So I tried setting them in in my project file like this:
<Reference Include="somedll.5.Navigation">
<HintPath>....UtilityThirdPartyDLLSsomedll.5.dll</HintPath>
<Aliases>SomeDLL5</Aliases>
[code]....
I would then expect this to work:
Imports version5 = SomeDLL5.Something
Imports version6 = SomeDLL6.Something
But the "SomeDLL5/6" doesn't show up in intellisense. So how can I reference both dll's in the same project?

When I'm coding in Visual Studio 2010, say that I have some interface:
Namespace Some.Huge.Terrible.Namespace.Adhering.To.Company.Standards
Public Interface MyInterface
...
Property SomeThing as String
...
End Interface
End Namespace
And a class:
Public Class CoolThings
Implements MyInterface
When I hit Enter after MyInterface, Visual Studio will put
Property SomeThing as String Implements Some.Huge.Terrible.Namespace.Adhering.To.Company.Standards.MyInterface.SomeThing
I would like it to, instead, simply put:
Property SomeThing as String Implements MyInterface.SomeThing
It does the same thing for all methods, etc. that I have to implement and it's mildly annoying to either have to look at a stupidly long reference, or clean it all up since I'm importing the namespace at the top of my class anyway. Is there a setting in Visual Studio that I can use to switch that?

I am trying to create a custom LabelFor helper to apply by default instead of the standard LabelFor helper include in System.Web.Mvc.Html. I want my LabelFor to take model properties that are PascalCase and make a label that appears as multiple words. For example the property FirstName would appear as "First Name".
I found this post that shows how to make a custom LabelFor helper that allows the addition of html attributes. I recreated this helper in VB.Net and modified it to do what I want, but I am not able to get it to work.
[Code]...
The sample includes this Module in Namespace System.Web.Mvc.Html but when I add the namespace declaration to this module everything in the rest of the project goes haywire. For example, each of my models has a Primary Key property that is a Guid datatype and as soon as I add the namespace above to the module, I get several errors stating that System.Guid is not defined among other similar errors.
I've tried to import my project namespace into a view in order to use the custom helper, but then I get an error that says Overload resolution failed because no 'LabelFor' is most specific for these arguments.I am trying to avoid having to specify a DisplayName for every PascalCase property I have in many models.

I use Excel PIA thru "Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel". IDE allows to set "global" reference for any namespace (in Project -> 'Project name' Properties -> References). But it doesn't allow to set alias for this namespace, so I have to write "Imports Excel = ..." thru all files where I need it. This would be great to have such thing in IDE!

I need to read an xml document from a database record into an XDocument object in order for it to be deserialized. So that the deserialization will work, I need to apply a specific namespace to each of the level 1 elements. So XML looks a bit like this:

How do I prevent the blank/empty namespace being added to each child element of the element to which the required namespace has been applied?

This class is located in the namespace Acme.Infrastructure.Interface.A class with the same name EventArgs exists in the System namespace.In another project in my solution I have a class Acme.BusinessModules.MyModule.MyClass.When attempting to use the EventArgs class I have to fully qualify the class name or the compiler thinks I am using the System.EventArgs class.My understanding of namespace resolution was that the compiler would first look for the class in the current namespace, and then its parents. It seems that the compiler checks in System before it checks in sibling namespaces. Is it correct that System is checked before the sibling? Or is this behaviour caused by other issues (Imports order?)?

I have 2 projects, one built in VB.NET and another in C#.NET. I want to use certain functionality of VB.NET into C#.NET and hence I have added the dll file of VB.NET solution into C#.NET as a reference by browsing the dll from my system. Say dll name for VB.NET is myData.dll. In my C#.NET project I am trying to declare it as a namespace i.e. "using myData;" and its giving me an error of "Type or namespace name could not be found"

What is the VB.NET equivalent? I am stuck on the x url lambda bit.

With the MVC3 Razor synax, one may render a string like so
@ViewData("photo")
My problem is: How can I append a dot to the above code.The following will result in a "Public member 'jpg' on type 'String' not found.
@ViewData("photo").jpg
I've tried the following code but does not produce my intended result:
@ViewData("photo") .jpg
@ViewData("photo"):.jpg
@ViewData("photo") & ".jpg"
