I have three tables in SQL server which I would like to show and access on a form. Table 1 contains account data, address, contact details etc. Table two contains data attached to a Person, tel no , Mobile no, Email etc. Table three contains details on what awards the person holds, i.e. one person can hold several awards.
Therefore I have a one many relationship between the first two tables and a one many relationship between the second two tables. This is set up in SQL
The first two tables are shown on a form, table 1 via a set of text boxes, table 2 via a datagrid control.
I would like the functionality whereby I could select a row in the datagrid showing the persons name and find the Persons_ID number then use that as a filter to a second datagrid view so that only the selected persons awards show in the datagrid.

I have worked up to the section Adding Code to Load Data into the Customer and Order Objects section with no problems, but the Public Class Form 1 code is throwing an error hilighted in italics as per below,

In the walkthrough I also came across a problem under the heading Modifying the Query on the OrdersTableAdapter to Return Only Orders for the Desired Customer This SQL throws an error,

But the following edit to the Where clause gets around the error, the @ symbol is removed,WHERE CustomerID = CustomerIDcould this be causing the problems I am having described above, or is this just an error.

I am in the processing of migrating from web services to WCF, and rather than trying to make old code work in WCF, I am just going to rebuild the services. As a part of this process, I have not figured out the best design to provide easy to consume services and also support future changes.

1. user writes he's details (textbox1 for username, textbox2 for password)
2. user hits "Login"
3. application tries to retrive data from sql server. (in this case localhost/127.0.0.1)
4. application retrieves data from test/tables/members
5. if the specified account information matches the servers data, it will let you through to the next form. Else, it will give an error that the user/pass is incorrect.
Now look, the table looks like this

I'm wondering if this is a good way of doing data access, in terms of all the database objects being properly closed and disposed? For example:

Is nesting Using like acceptable practice? If I exit the method at some point within the Read() loop, will the use of Using like this ensure all objects are cleaned up properly regardless?
Is there a way to nest a datatable into another datatable? I know you can do this with gridviews but thats not what I'm looking for.
Also, I don't want to merge the datatables. What I'm trying to do is have a datatable with 2 columns and each column containing different datatables.
I want to compare two objects whose type may be diffrent.
For eg, I expects 'true' for comparing 1000.0(Decimal) with 1000(Double) . Similary, it should return true if I compare 10(string) and 10(double) .
I tried to compare using Object.Equals() , but it did NOT work.It return false if two objects have different data types.

I'm confused with this piece of code listed below. This code calls the update method of the dataadapter object to save the changes made to the dataSETback to the database itself. What I don't understand about this code is that it creates an update command(cmdUpdate), insert command (cmdInsert) and delete command (cmdDelete). My understanding is that the update method saves the changes back to the database. So I don't understand why the author creates these additional commands.
