I use to be a VB6 developer before migrating to .NET.
I am looking for a way to do something (as in, call a procedure) whenever a textbox gets focus in ASP.NET but I couldn't find my way out. I am using VB.NET.
I can't seem to get the Form.GotFocus event to fire.I have two forms - a main window and a debug window.The debug window will always be shown with the main window. But, I don't want the debug window to appear in the task bar - it's unnecessary.While my program is running, when I select another program, my main window and the debug window are placed behind the program that I selected. From the task bar, I can bring my program back to the front by clicking on it in the task bar. The problem is, that now my debug window is behind the other program.I have code that will "DebugWindow.BringToFront", and it works. But I need some way to run do this when the main form gets the focus.I do not wish to make any of my forms Modal. At least not permanently. If the solution is to change the modal property of the form temporarily, then that wouldn't be a problem.
I tried Me.Enter, Me.Activated, Me.Click and a few other events. Me.Click only works when I click within the Form window, not the form's title bar. Me.Activated caused problems - The code ran, but it would always end with the focus on the Debug window. When I tried to click on the main form, the Activated event would fire again, sending the focus back to the debug window.[code]
I would like to somehow override the "GotFocus" and "LosFocus" event of the textbox.
Here's the deal. I have big registration form with +- 200 TextBoxes and I want the one that has focus to be highlighter [e.g. let's say change the background color to yellow]. I know, I could write the same code for 200 TextBoxes, but that would be time-killing and I'm really not in favour writing the same thing 200 times as well as with such a huge amount of copy-paste I'm almost sure I would make mistake somewhere.
I am looking for a way to tell when a tab has taken focus. I tried the gotfocus call but it doesn't seem to get called when I click on the tab. Did a quick search on google but can't seem to find the answer.
View 2 RepliesI have a mdi and 3 child windows.The program start with an empty mdi.With a menu you can open each child window once.When i open for example 2 windows. And close the one on top. The one left(the window under the one i closed) should get focus. How can i manage this?

Now, my issue is that this works great if you use the mouse and click around in the textboxes. However, if you hit the TAB key to move around on the screen, the LostFocus event doesn't seem to work. All of my textboxes backcolor remains lightblue. What did I do wrong? What do I need to do to fix this problem?
In vb.net I would like to set all numericUpDown (NUD) controls to select their value when they receive focus, like a text box does. Do I need to write a GotFocus handler for each NUD? I know I can use widthBox.Select(0, widthBox.ToString().Length) to do the selection I just need to be able to apply this to all NUD GotFocus events.

View 2 RepliesI have two web browser controls on my form. I also have several buttons like bold, underline, etc. My probem is the gotfocus of the web control is not working correctly. If I click on the web browser control to add text the gotfocus is not fired. If I click on a text box first and then click in the browser control it is fired. I need to know which has focused so the bold etc know which control to work on.

I am looking for it to just run once since the method is filling the text box control with data. Is there a common reason this happens? Its not looping cause it is happening on everyone of my controls that use the GotFocus method.

I used the proper addhandler and assigned the correct name to my sub. I have the click event changing the background color to blue and the doubleclick event changing the background color to green. The background color does not change to green. Why?

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to validate a few things in a form I'm building. It has a datagrid with clients info (taken from an access database) and a few textboxes where the user can type some search criteria. The thing is that those same textboxes are used to add new clients to the database and to modify a client's information if one from the datagrid is selected, so I made it that the buttons to insert and modify clients are disabled on load and thenevery time the text on a textbox changes ("TextChanged" event) they become enabled. So far so good. But then I wanted to make it so when a client from the datagrid is selected both buttons become disabled again until the text on a textbox changes (to make sure they're adding a different client and not the same one that was
selected).
I tried using the CellClick event from the datagrid to disable the buttons, but since every time a client is selected from the datagrid the info is shown on the textboxes, this triggers the TextChanged event too, and the buttons become available.So, is there a way I can tell the TextChanged event not to be triggered when the CellClick event occurs?
The event handlers in my parent class are never called though the events are raised in the child class.

View 7 RepliesStarting from my understanding about Background worker control, I understands that the background worker runs the code in its "DoWork" method in a seperate thread, while ProgressChanged and RunWorkerCompleted events are executed on the main thread.In my senerio, I report the progress and under an specail condition my application displays a message box to the user in "ProgressChanged" method using MessageBox.Show(). and in "Run Worker Completed" event the application finalize some work. There the sequence is important, suppose that the message is of Yes or No type and finalization depends on it. Now when i run my application, the background worker triggers "ProgressChanged", but as soon as backgroundWorker's cancelAsync() is called the program leaves the current "ProgressChanged" method and executes "RunWorkerCompleted" code first.How can i make sure that the "Run Worker Completed" code executes only after the completion of ProgressChanged method.

I am making a function of an application that when a function is called the application will close all processes that are owned by the user and were started after a specific point. My thoughts on this would be to trigger an event in my application every time a process is started and ended, and only if the processes is owned by the user, the event should get information (e.g. the process ID, name, etc) about that process and add or remove that information to/from an array depending on if the process starts or ends. Then when a function is called end all the processes in that array.

I have a Visual Basic Program that, when I enter data into a textbox, uses LEAVE events to update it. However, it will not update until I go to another textbox or press a button or other similar control.This also happens when using the LOST FOCUS event.How can I make the textbox update (be it doing a financial recalculation or some other custom function) happen when the user clicks/tabs out of the textbox and NOT having to click on a button or into another textbox?Do you recommend having a separate button for performing the custom functions?

I have one checking in a textbox Leave event. I will go check whether this ID is already exist in DB or not. If exist, I will prompt MSG box to user.
When I click on Close button while focus is on textbox, this textbox Leave Event will trigger first before Button Click event.
So, the form remains open without trigger Button Click event.

I just want to know if there any equivalent event (ADO. NET VS 2008) event as in MS ACCESS Form's OnCurrent Event.
The reason is I like to make some calculations based on some data bound controls with current datarow data when user clicked a row in DataGridView (or by using bindingNavigator). I've tried with DatagridView's RowEnter event. But some Data bound controls are not yet reflect the data of current datarow when that evet was fired.
In MSDN Help File: It says "RowEnter Event: Occurs when a row receives input focus but before it becomes the current row. "
I have alot of experience in working in VBA for excel, but not so much experience in creating my own structures so it's all still a bit foggy. I'm trying to capture the event for when the F1 key is pressed, not just when the form is active, but anytime the program is running. The code below expressing the handling is automatically generated for me in VB Express... But I'd like to change the situation to encompass anytime the program is open.
