I've tried to run a program that requires the Flash.ocx file to write a registry. Without the file I get a database creation error and the program closes after I close the error. The suggestion [URl].. does
not work as I have tried to do this twice now as the solution center suggests.

View 10 RepliesI've read about revising the File Version (and Assembly Version) to ensure that an updated file does replace an older/previous file when a WI update installation is carried out, but I don't understand the four-part construction of the File Version ... and my re-versioned files sometimes refuse to transfer to the target computer.
For example, a .exe I have recently updated had it's File Version set to 1.0.0.0 (it is resident now in my Program Files (x86)/MyApplication folder) and File Date 23/03/2012, but even now with the File Version set to 2.0.0.10 and a File Date of 24/03/2012 when I use WI to install the new program over the original the 1.0.0.0 file remains in place and the new 2.0.0.10 file does not get installed instead.

I have a program that implements various registry changes. The problem is depending on the version of Windows the registry entry may not exist. If that is the case an error is thrown since it the registry key does not existThe code is below that actually calls the changes if the checkbox is checked or unchecked. The functions contain the registry changes which are all correct the problem is the error handling I have implemented below it seems to be causing a problem in te program where the rest of the code afterwards is not getting executed properly. What is supposed to happen is if the checkbox is checked it will run the disable function. However if that registry key is not found the program will give a message with a box saying that item does not exist and then it will automatically uncheck the box and turn the checkbox text red. There is more then one of these also. It does do this however it doesn't seem to execute the rest of the checkboxes after it in the code.
If the box is unchecked it will uncheck the checkbox thereby enabling the function

View 5 RepliesI am really confused! My program doesn't work if I don't have Visual Studio here in my PC. To test it I have uninstalled Visual Studio. But my program doesn't work though Flash Player is present there (I have used Flash animation in the first form).
To be more sure about it I have installed Flash. But it's not working! That means the Flash animation file (.swf) is not making a problem! It needs support from Visual Studio to start. Doesn't it mean that some files are not attached with a setup file as a result it needs Visual Studio to run? Let me tell you how I create a setup file of my program.

I have developed a VB 2010 express application that works on my windows 7 machine, but when I deploy it to other windows 7 machines the application will not run at all. I created an msi script to install the software on other machines and it includes the .NET 4.0 framework an all of my application dll's and such. Any idea what might be he problem?

I have an installation of VS2010 with Windows 7 at work and a laptop with Windows 7 X64. I transferred a whole set of project files to the laptop but the directory "Documents" does not exist on the laptop - it is called "My Documents". As such of course I get errors when loading the project on the X64 machine as the resource files cannot be found. I have tried changing the name of the directory to "Documents" to accord with the other PC, and this was apparetnly successful. But, VS still does not "see" the files in the renamed directory. How can I simply change the path name for the resource files so that VS can see these files?
View 8 RepliesThere is a very strange problem with a Windows Service I am working on that I would like to understand why it occurs. The service loops every 5 minutes and then within that loop it loops through keys containing webservice URLs that are numbered such as:

<add key="URL.3" value="http://dummy3.com/Service.asmx"/>
The code that does this check is:

When it hits a key that doesn't exist an exception is thrown and the service stops and waits for 5 minutes until the next loop.This usually works great but every week or two the Windows service will crash on that line without any Exception. The application log has a line from before that line but nothing after, none of the Try Catches are hit (the main one is catching the base "Exception" class).In the Event Log for Windows is the following:

The weird part is that this line of code is executing fine 300 times a day for at least a week which is around 2000 times before that one time it causes a full crash of the application. why this is occurring? I have changed that line of code to not rely on Exceptions and it has been working fine for a week now with no crash so could be something to do with too many Exceptions - maybe causing a stack overflow?

My application works fine in vs 2005 and also in 2008
But when I try to build setup of the application,
It gives Error
