Let A VB Application Open A Whole Folder?
Mar 10, 2010I am making a Movie Launcher for myself, because i have a **** load of movies :P (They are all digital). Now it's working fine, but i have a question.
Some of the movies have a VIDEO_TS folder, witch i need to open in VLC player. How can i let a VB application open a whole folder (so the VIDEO_TS folder) in a program like VLC?

What causes this message to appear. Should'nt the new version over write any previously installed version on a machine. Although in this case no other version has been installed. this runs fine. but what i need is that the customerid on the application 1 that is calling application 2, should be transfered while opening app 2.e.g -Customer 10001 screen is open on app 1. When i click open app 2, the above code runs and opens app 2. how do i make app 2 open to customer 10001 screen. Is there any way to pass parameters while opening app 2 in System.Diagnostics.Process.Start ?

Nov 18, 2010I created a folder in the Solution Explorer. Now the program will need to access that folder. How can I access the folder? The folder in my solution explorer is named "Machines"I just can't seem to find a way to programmatically get there. I mean when user copies and pastes the exe program to another folder, the program starts to store the the settings in
"C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsApplication1.exe_Url_zywjz0o2tyrcmd35h5j1fdq0lplbklwc"
(Different than the first address). This causes the exp date to change everytime user copy-pasts the program.. Is there any way to specify where to store the settings? I mean when the program starts i want to store the settings always in "C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftxxxx" folder.

Get Folder Path Of Application?
Jul 4, 2011This is a messy way of updating my application but I don't have much other way I can think of doing it. Here is the background information:
My app does not use ClickOnce or any deployment other than just copy/paste the files into a zip and uploading on the web My app has a "update check" form which checks for strings on my website to compare current version with a newer version
Now basically, it downloads correctly. Nothing about that is the problem. I use My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile to do so.
Currently, the user downloads and has to REPLACE the file. Its not an update, its just an "updated" application. I'm not fully sure how I will go about proceding this later, but currently I'm trying to do the first part of my pseudocode below. Which is to get the application's path so that I can "replace" it later programmatically so that it performs a "auto-update".
Pseudocode of what I am trying to accomplish (anything in bold is what I'm trying to accomplish that I haven't already done):
Get folder path of application Download the app update with My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile download Extract this updated folder and replace the contents with the current folder path of the application.
I have the download aspect complete. As far as this question goes, how do I get the folder and replace the contents? As far as extraction though, what are your thoughts on the best method to extract and then replace?

Feb 28, 2012I've been using it for three days, and tried to make my own application. Everything was going okay, it ran fine in the debugger and everything worked, so I assumed there would be no problems. But then when I went to run it from the exe in the folder, it shows me this:

Application To Monitor Folder Within Programs
Sep 15, 2011I created a vb.net 2008 application to windows 7 with some functions that monitor a folder within "Programs". Folder you created during installation of this application. But every time you launch the software (the exe, after installing the client package) I get UAC and I ask for confirmation. I tried to edit the manifest (with admin user) but it always comes out. I would like to depart immediately launch the EXE application, without uac.

Feb 19, 2012I've been looking into centralising my computer game saves to make it easier to backup and restore as well as putting them up on the cloud via dropbox but there in so may places that it makes it quite difficult. I noticed the Windows 7 and Vista now support Symbolic links so I've been playing around with that but I was wonder the follow:
Is it possible (code example or a point in the right direction) for an application (vb.net or C++) to spoof a file or folder?
E.g. Application A (a game like Diablo III or Civilization V) attempts to read or right from file A (the game save), application B (the save repository) detects this read/write request and pipes the request through itself preforming the request on file B (the actual game save in another location). Application A is in no way altered and treats the file normally.
Note: I realise there are many simple ways of preforming the same task in essence such as monitoring the use of Application A or periodically checking file A and copying it if it has been altered since the last check etc but all these methods have draw backs and less interested in making it work than if it is possible.

May 26, 2010while the application is running i'm using FileSystemWatcher to monitor the folder. But what if there are changes to the folder when the application is not running, how can I check for these changes when the application starts.(similar to how windows media player, for example, monitors your music folder. Even when you add songs to that folder when it is not running, it does discover them when it runs next time)
