Getting Generic Currency Sign Instead Of $ In .NET Application?

Jul 27, 2011

In our VB .NET application, we use "c0" and "c2" format strings to display currency values all over the place.

Recently, users have had issues where these currency values don't show up correctly with a $ sign, but with some weird symbol, ¤. Through wikipedia, I found out it's the generic currency symbol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency_(typography)

I've seen the problem happen on my machine ONCE, and haven't been able to recreate it since. It went away when I restarted the application. In fact, as soon as I saw the problem, I started another instance of the application but $ signs showed up fine in that second instance.

Signer's Certificate Is Not Valid?

Nov 15, 2006

I have programmed succesfully with VB 4.0 for years and have recently started to "Update" myself with Visual Basic 2005. I tried to build an application to distribute via CD. I received the following error:

Error 2 SignTool reported an error 'Failed to sign binReleaseCounting Stewards data entry.publish\setup.exe. SignTool Error: ISignedCode::Sign returned error: 0x80880253

The signer's certificate is not valid for signing. SignTool Error: An error occurred while attempting to sign: binReleaseCounting Stewards data entry.publish\setup.exe

I am totally "out to lunch." I have no clue of what this is about and cannot find anything in my references which address it. I have found no code on line that enlightens me. Is there a simple explanation and/or fix? Where can I learn more in order to avoid this in the future?

Create A VB Application That Allows Engineers To Sign Out Equipment?

Jun 5, 2011

I'm a fairly new programmer so you'll have to bear with me on this. Basically, I have a database with 3 tables, Engineers, Equipment and Signouts. I want to create a VB application that allows engineers to sign out equipment. I have all of the forms setup the way I want, and have followed a tutorial online for how to connect to the database with the MySQL .NET Connector. I have 3 forms, and have a class with all of my global variables in it. All I have managed to thus far, is define connStr as a global variable, and use it to run a connection test when the main form starts up.

My next job is to query for information about an engineer based on their ID. I have a text input box, and a button to click, and then way to display the retreived information on the next page. I have setup variables for the returned values to be put against, so they can be displayed on the form.

My question is, when the button is clicked, how do I make the application query the database based on the ID, and then use the information it returns (Engineers ID, Name and Telephone Number) to assign those values to the variables? Also, on a side note, instead of using forms, I want to use panels, is there a sub routine similar to form_load for using panels when they are shown/hidden?

Application Folder Location?

Nov 18, 2010

I created a folder in the Solution Explorer. Now the program will need to access that folder. How can I access the folder? The folder in my solution explorer is named "Machines"I just can't seem to find a way to programmatically get there. Is it perhaps that this folder needs to be specified somewhere other than in the solution explorer? I looked at the references and went to Reference Path, but it looks like you can only specify a specific path, I would rather do it Dynamically depending on the install (I think my problem is in here somewhere). For that matter could it be that this folder won't be created untill the project is compiled

Application Settings (Specifying The Folder)?

Jul 22, 2011

Im using vb 2010 Express. I use 'Application settings' to store "demo version exp. date" of my program. My program stores the settings in "C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsApplication1.exe_Url_fbujq51flndh1ui4t4442ohpvlebhwej" folder. But when user copies the exe program and pastes it to another folder, the settings folder changes. I mean when user copies and pastes the exe program to another folder, the program starts to store the the settings in

"C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsApplication1.exe_Url_zywjz0o2tyrcmd35h5j1fdq0lplbklwc"

(Different than the first address). This causes the exp date to change everytime user copy-pasts the program.. Is there any way to specify where to store the settings? I mean when the program starts i want to store the settings always in "C:UserslenovoAppDataLocalMicrosoftxxxx" folder.

Get Folder Path Of Application?

Jul 4, 2011

This is a messy way of updating my application but I don't have much other way I can think of doing it. Here is the background information:

My app does not use ClickOnce or any deployment other than just copy/paste the files into a zip and uploading on the web My app has a "update check" form which checks for strings on my website to compare current version with a newer version

Now basically, it downloads correctly. Nothing about that is the problem. I use My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile to do so.

Currently, the user downloads and has to REPLACE the file. Its not an update, its just an "updated" application. I'm not fully sure how I will go about proceding this later, but currently I'm trying to do the first part of my pseudocode below. Which is to get the application's path so that I can "replace" it later programmatically so that it performs a "auto-update".

Pseudocode of what I am trying to accomplish (anything in bold is what I'm trying to accomplish that I haven't already done):

Get folder path of application Download the app update with My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile download Extract this updated folder and replace the contents with the current folder path of the application.

I have the download aspect complete. As far as this question goes, how do I get the folder and replace the contents? As far as extraction though, what are your thoughts on the best method to extract and then replace?

Application - Run It From The Exe In The Folder - Unhandled Exception

Feb 28, 2012

I've been using it for three days, and tried to make my own application. Everything was going okay, it ran fine in the debugger and everything worked, so I assumed there would be no problems. But then when I went to run it from the exe in the folder, it shows me this:

Quote:

System.Threading.ThreadStateException: Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it.
at System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowserBase.OnHandleCreated(EventArgs e)

[CODE]............

I copied what I think to be the most important part of it. I've been searching around, and it says to do something with the main method, but I have no idea what that means.
