Opening A File In A Separate Program?

I need to be able to open a selected file (upon the user selecting it from his/her computer) in different browsers (CHROME, FIREFOX etc) I have downloaded the portable versions and placed and have figured out how to get them to open, but am not sure how to open the file selected in each seperate browser. is it possible to dictate the position and size of each window that opens? Because preferably I would like to be able to divide the screen up with each of the browsers selected.

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

I need to be able to view another programs chatlog while it is running. this is the existing code. right now for testing it just reads the first line of file. this reads the file just fine as long as the other program isnt running but if it is running i get an error stating that the file is in use by another process. I'm using vb 2010 express.

I've been trying to open a program called 'DET 3' which is designed by the Honduran government and helps us pay taxes for the government. I've been getting this error message when I try to open the program "Component 'Mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" I need this program to work so I can pay my taxes before July 10th.

How can I get a file to open in its default program by users, clicking on (Button 1 for eg.), a file dialog opening and then select a file and then it would open in the default program for that file type. I have tried other codes in these forums, but I get errors.

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:

I want to have a link in an email with an ID number. Then, when the user clicks on the link in the email, it either launches my program, or brings the program to top, depending on whether it is opened or not, and then loads the record for that ID number from the link (the software is a record lookup tool).If I can figure out how to "send" the program the ID, I can figure the rest out.

Well need to make a separate update program and I need some way of getting my main application's version. I thought about making a text file with the version but I can't write to the program files folder with permission, thats why I have a second program. I also though about making the update program's version the same as the main application, but that doesn't seem right because I have to update the update program. So is there a way I can get the main applications version inside the update program?

I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.

I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.

As I develop code, I often want to unit test some of the building blocks of a class even if they are normally private. If my unit tests are inside the project, I can use "Friend" to accomplish this and still keep the functions private for normal use. But I would rather move my NUnit tests into their own separate project(s).

I'm making a flash player and I've been trying to figure this out for months now and have posted several different topics but none of the answers fixed my problem. I already know how to set my program to the default program for flash files on the computer, but I can't actually open files with my program without having my program open and loading it from the open file dialog in my program.

I'm trying to convert an ancient cash register program to .net. Conquered everything else, but I can't pop open the cash register. Its connected to COM1, you are supposed to send a "trigger" text down COM1 that will cause the register to open.
Here is the .net code.

I get msgboxes "Signal Sent", "Done Pop Drawer". It just won't pop. It's an MS-Cash Drawer (EP125KC). Definitely connected to COM1, definitely has power. Chr(65) is the old code used to pop drawer and it works:
Open drawerComPort For Output Access Write As #1
Print #1, Chr$(65); "A";
Close #1
The above code worked successfully. The root problem was caused by a reversed power cord (negative was on the wrong side).
