How can I get a file to open in its default program by users, clicking on (Button 1 for eg.), a file dialog opening and then select a file and then it would open in the default program for that file type. I have tried other codes in these forums, but I get errors.
View 2 RepliesMy website creates an email from an HTML template using MailDefinition and ending up with a System.Net.Mail.MailMessage object.
Usually, I just call the Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send method and the email is sent.
Now I need to be able to open the created email in the clients default mail program and then they click their email programs send button to send it.

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

View 9 RepliesI need to be able to open a selected file (upon the user selecting it from his/her computer) in different browsers (CHROME, FIREFOX etc) I have downloaded the portable versions and placed and have figured out how to get them to open, but am not sure how to open the file selected in each seperate browser. is it possible to dictate the position and size of each window that opens? Because preferably I would like to be able to divide the screen up with each of the browsers selected.

I've been trying to open a program called 'DET 3' which is designed by the Honduran government and helps us pay taxes for the government. I've been getting this error message when I try to open the program "Component 'Mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" I need this program to work so I can pay my taxes before July 10th.

For example, if you have a "*.jpg" file, it most likely will open in WINDOWS PICTURE GALLERY under Vista on default. If you associated another program with the "*.jpg" extension, then this file will be opened with tat program instead. "*.jpg" is here only an example!

I have tried just doing it in Default Programs, in Windows 7, and Windows XP. But when you click on the file it opens the program, but does not load the file. A couple of times the function returned the error (on users machine) "the system cannot find the file specified"
I guess the user has not set a default web browser. Why i get this error? How could i add a default web browser check before calling this function?
How can I make a program so you click a button and select a File using a OpenFileDialog and click send on your computer and it will send the file to a different computer and then a SaveFileDialog will show asking where to save the file on the other computer. Oh ya I cant use WinSock or whatever becuase im using Windows Vista 64 Bit. I need it because I for some reason cant use printer sharing. I am receiving the same error. However, on Windows XP, both of these codes are working fine. Email client used (as default) is Outlook 2007.
I have used the openfiledialog on numerous occasions, and it has never caused a problem. (This is also happening to savefiledialog as well...) Put simply, its breaking my application..

Even this bare minimum code, is causing most of my application to stop working. I have an onpaint method which should be drawing my map, it starts throwing exceptions(file not found), I checked my paths they are correct, I have a listbox linked to a picturebox, clicking a image' name in the listbox, loads the corresponding image to my picturebox, this stops working too..The program isn't hung, I can navigate my listbox, open menu's etc,.. It's breaking everything that has to do with images. I would post code, but, it's quite extensive, and the problem seems to be centered on the opensave dialogs.. (again, I have used this same code without trouble, so many times I have lost count, I'm at a loss as to why its acting up now...) Well, for now I created my own open file dialog, its a little crude compared to the real one, but, mine works..(ie, a standard dialog control, Ok, Cancel, with a ListBox loading the file names..)

I am learning this as I go, and I can open existing files using the OpenFileDialog box, but I cant not find an real explanation on how to create a file if it is not in existance... in other words, I want to know now to code so that when a user enteres a filename in the filename box in the OpenFileDialog and that file does not already exist then the file is created as a new file, and then opened.
