Transaction Error On Call To Commit() When Select Has Been Executed Inside Transaction?
May 9, 2011I get this error at the Commit of a transaction in a desktop application:
This OleDbTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable.
Other posts I have seen with similar error suggests this can occur if it takes a long time, or contains large amounts of data. This is not the case here.Logging tells me it takes 140 ms from Begin to Commit and about 10 commands executed inside the transaction.It is using an Oracle database.This class is a simplified version of my database class:
Class MyDatabase
Private mConnection AS OleDbConnection
Private mTransaction AS OleDbTransaction

Is it not allowed to run a select inside a transaction like this? Or can it be done by running the transaction in a specific isolation level (I see that the BeginTransaction method has an optional parameter for doing this) ? ..Or some other sollution..? In my case, it was not a problem to move the select to run before the transaction started, but what if you need to run selects that must run inside the transaction?

Nov 11, 2011I have 2 tables which I want to insert data into, table "CAM" and table "COut", after inserting data in "CAM" it shall return a retAutoID which will be hand to "COut" as one of the parameter required for it's insertion. May 5, 2009I want to add from vb.net a file into a clob column in oracle 9.6.1 (8 mb). When i add the file within a transaction then it goes much longer (10x longer) then when i add it whitout transaction. Why i have to wait so long with transaction object?
Here i have prepared an example code. the first code is without transaction and the second code with transaction. The first code is much faster then the second.

Mar 7, 2012While working on some functions that update my database, I was writing some quick tests just to make sure my functions were executing properly. When it comes time to actually update the database I can pass a transaction to a function and then commit it:

I am curious if there is a way to write a quick test that can verify that the transaction will actually update certain rows before committing?

Alternative To Transaction Lock?
Mar 20, 2012In my project i am using begin transaction commit or rollback changes. but this causes lock to the tables in that particular functionality.
So if the any other user does any other functionality those locked table are not available until the transaction is completed. I want to know if there is any alternative to transaction which insures data security but the tables are not locked out.

If yes, delete. Then, "Do you want to cancel Good #2", no, do not delete and one another question (if received item is issued, a process must be made manualy by the user). And, at the end, if all goods were successfully cancelled, we have to cancel the reception itself. But sometime, if an error occurs or some conditions occurs once asked to user in this process, we want to cancel any actions made from the beginning and make it back to his original state. SQL Transaction Locking Whole Tables?
Mar 7, 2012I am trying to use a transaction for the duration that the dialog is open and then commit the changes once the dialog has been ok�d or rollback'd if canceled by the user.My problem is when I use the transaction it is locking the whole of the tables that I�m using to update and insert new records too.I update the record in the first (current) table and insert a new record into the second (history) table. Obviously this is causing me problems as I only want the transaction to lock the specific records i'm updating and not allow a new insert record with my PK associated to my that I�m updating, not lock the whole of the 2 tables.This is my code[code]....

Do I need to create a blank view page named Ipn or what ever the Ipn action name is?? In this view would It need to contain any razor syntax? I have been back and fourth over every single post I could find about IPN but there is nothing for MVC 3 vb.net.. This has been edited... I have got the IPN handler reutrning status 200. Apr 25, 2011I have an application which upon a save button needs to save data to 8 different tables. 7 of those tables will have multiple new records added to them, while 1 will have just one new record. I want to encapsulate this giant Insert operation in a Transaction so that it will not complete unless I can save successfully to all tables.I have considered using Insert commands to a command statement, but adding what amounts to like 50 parameters, and the fact that using a parameterized query means it becomes very difficult to troubleshoot problems such as invalid values in the SQL statement (since I cannot figure out what the statement looks like with values in it

Nov 10, 2009I am using LINQ to SQL and a third party SDK that supports distributed transactions. When I realize that a pending update will be updating both SQL records and records in the third party SDK, I am creating a TransactionScope with a 0 (presumably infinite) timeout (although I've also tried 12 hours as a timespan parameter). Then I use GetDtcTransaction on the ambient transaction (created by transactionscope) to get a DTC transaction to link to the third party SDK. Things work nicely for about 10 minutes, but after 10 minutes, the transaction disappears and an error occurs. How do I determine why the transaction is disappearing. I suspect it's a timeout because it regularly occurs after 10 minutes even though slightly varying degrees of work have been done at that point. But I'm at a loss about how to determine what terminated the transaction, why, and how to extend its life.
