Parsing Image Strings?
Oct 17, 2011I get long strings of images like this
Image1.jpg?set_id=8800005007,Image2.jpg?set_id=88000040075,
How can I break them down to just the image only string

I am having trouble figuring out how to parse a string with delimiters. I have a text box which the user inputs data or what ever. I need to figure out how to parse the string and display it in a listbox, each word in a single line. Here is what I have so far, my book doesnt explain parsing very well and I'm stuck
View 2 RepliesI have the html of a page loaded into a string.
confirmUse('??????','Eat'
I want to extract the number that the ?'s represent however confirmUse is used in other parts of the page. The only constant is the 'Eat' which is unique to this specific number.
I usually use Mid and Instr to find what I need but when I try to back track it gives me an error because the index number is below 0.
I have a text file with preferences in it. I read the file and find text on a particular line like this:If InStr(sLine, "avidDirectory") Then This is my line in the text file: avidDirectory "S:Avid MediaFiles" "D:Avid MediaFiles" "Z:Avid MediaFiles"..What I need to do is read each string between the quoations marks and place each one in a text box.I have 5 texts boxes to use if there are 5 different directories above (only three in the example above)So I guess I need to capture the text between the quotation marks, create a new string from it, and place that string into a text box [code]
View 1 RepliesI'll start off by saying I am using Visual Studio 2008 Standard. I am creating a program that will open installed programs using short code. For instance, if a user types in 'npp' then Notepad++ opens. I have it working just fine to respond to the predefined commands, but I would like to expand it so that the user can define their own settings simply by typing the program directory and the custom short code they want: Example: If I am an end user and would like to say define a short code for Windows Media Player, I would simply type the following: (Assuming Excel or likewise is used to open the csv file).

Say I have a List(Of Tag) with Tag being an object. One member of Tag, Tag.Description, is a string, and I want to make a comma-separated concatenation of the Description members.Is there an easier way to do this than to read the Description members into a List(Of String) and then use the Join function?
View 2 RepliesMy goal is actually very simple: I simply want a (shared) function that accepts a List(Of String) which creates an image and writes those strings (line by line) onto the image. There's a bit more to it than that, but for the sake of example this is all you need to know.Usually when drawing on an image I would create a Bitmap object and get the graphics object from Graphics.FromImage:
Dim bmp As New Bitmap(100, 100)
Using g As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp)
g.FillRectangle(...)
[code]....
Seems easy enough, but the problem is that I don't know how many strings there will be in the list, nor how long they will be. The image should 'scale itself' according to the strings in the list. If the list contains 5 strings it should be 5 strings high (plus a little extra for borders). If the list contains only 1 string it should be only one string high. Same goes for the width, if the longest string is 150 pixels, the image needs to be at least 150 pixels (160, 170 or something).
This is all good, I can get the dimensions of the strings by using Graphics.MeasureString. The problem now is that I need the dimensions of the image to create the bitmap. I need the Graphics object to get the dimensions. But, I need the bitmap to get the Graphics object I'm stuck in a loop here, if I don't have the Graphics object (I can't create it from nothing..) then I cannot measure the strings, but if I cannot measure the strings then I cannot determine how large my image will be, so I cannot create a bitmap and associated Graphics object...
I would like to be able to parse vb.net code files, so I can examine the collection of Subs, Functions (and their contents, including comments), private variables, etc. I can be open the actual source code files. So for example, if I have:

I'm creating a vb.net winforms application that will take in user given strings, parse them, and print out labels with variable information. The given string will be used in all the labels, but the variable part of the string will change with each label.
My question is: is it better to parse the strings one time, then store those values in arrays, or to parse the string each time a label is printed? Which will perform better? Which is better practice? What is the proper way to test something like this?
I am working on a UDP Client/Server, and currently i have them sending back and forth strings, which i convert to bytes, and then open the bytes to read. I want to now send an Object instead of those strings, which includes multiple unsigned integers and strings.
View 39 RepliesI have a list of strings. For each string in that list, I want to prepend another string. I wrote a method to do it, but I was wondering if there was something already in .NET I could use to do this. It seems like something that could be built in, but I was not able to find anything.
Here is the method I wrote:
Private Function PrependToAllInList(ByRef inputList As List(Of String), ByRef prependString As String) As List(Of String)
Dim returnList As List(Of String) = New List(Of String)
For Each inputString As String In inputList
returnList.Add(String.Format("{0}{1}", prependString, inputString))
[code].....
It works, but I would rather use built in functions whenever possible.
I'm migrating from VB6 to VB.NET, in hence my questions below:
I have to write a function that returns array of strings.
How can I initiate it to empty array? I need it since I have to check if it's empty array after it returns from this function.
Is list of arrays better for this purpose? If I use a list - Is it empty when it firstly defined? How can I check it it's empty?
I have been looking for examples to find the string between two strings. This top one works fine;
Public Sub ReadData(ByRef keywordStart As String, ByRef keywordEnd As String, ByVal filename As String)
Using reader = New StreamReader(filename)
[Code].....
Now the first one is fine - Ext_Volume is result of the string between the strings <Volume> and </Volume>. <Volume> and </Volume> are unique so this is straight forward.
However the second one - "^FDExp:" is unique, but "^FS" is not unique. There are occurances of "^FS" before and after "^FDExp:".
How do I get the string to search AFTER the occurrence, not before etc?
Dim str As String
Dim str2 As Array
str = "blabla duhduh"
str2 = str.Split(" ")
Say the string is something like
bla bla bla bla (cat) bladfdskdfd dsgdsdksf (dog)
dfdshfdskdskfsdfkhsdf sdkfhdsfkdf (kathy) fdsfhdskfhdsfkd (doggy)
I want a generic.list (of string) containing
cat
dog
kathy
doggy
How to do that with regular expression in vb.net
Later I want to do something more complicated like getting all strings between "url":" and ", from this strings

Is there an easy way to find a certain string within a string and then return the strings that you find as an array?I have written this:
Public Function FindStrings(ByVal strSourceString As String, ByVal strStartString As String, ByVal strEndString As String) As String()
Dim StringStartposition As Integer
Dim StringEndPosition As Integer
Dim Currentposition As Integer = 1

I have this string called time. It's value is in this format: HH:MM:SS The numbers change, but the format stays the same. I want to separtate the code into 3 strings Hour, Minutes, Seconds.
View 2 RepliesI have a DataGridView that has some columns with dates. It binds to an in-memory Datatable which gets loaded from an string array of data passed back from the backend Some of the rows returned have nulls for the date columns. Solution 1: If I define the Date column in the DataTable as "string" I can easily convert those nulls to empty strings and display it in the grid as empty strings (desired results). However, if the user clicks on the date column header to sort by date, it doesn't order the rows as you want. You get a purely string sort order. Not acceptable

Been working on a function in my program that uses an embedded web browser to take the user to a certain website. In this case, I want it to search www.rhapsody.com for music tracks. The problem is, the parsing is all screwed up. The form can't send a multi-worded parameter.The function is like this:
ElseIf video = True Then
Dim temp2 = InputBox("Enter the artist and song title of the video you are watching, and Crystal Rain will try to find an audio version.")
WebBrowser1.Navigate("http:rhapsody.com/-search?query=" + temp2 + "&searchtype=RhapTrack")
End If
It puts the user input as a search query in the URL. This works fine for songs that are only one word. But when I try something like "I love you," it takes me to rhapsody saying:
Track Search Results: i%20love%20you
It's an annoying %20 parser thing in between each word. Is there a way to address this parsing problem? Somehow get the form to send the search to the web browser without the %20?
besides still being a newbie to programming. I need to import the information from a xml document into a sql server 2005 database. I have spent the last week searching the web trying to figure out how to do this. From what I can tell I should either use a T-Sql statement or SQL Bulk Copy i'm using vb.net 2008 Pro as the application front end. Here is the Schema and a small part of the xml document.

I have been parsing xml content using the xmlreader and cannot use the xml document but so far it works getting all elementcontent except for the attribute contents. I need to parse the link below found in the following entry;[code]
View 2 RepliesIIf Function parse both the true part and false part while evaluating the expression.. Am i missing anything? Try this statement and let me know!!
Example:
Dim sample = ""
Dim result = IIf(String.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(sample), 0, Integer.Parse(sample))
Exception = "Input string was not in a correct format."
Fix: Dim result = Integer.Parse(IIf(String.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(sample), 0, sample))[URl]..
I am parsing some xml entries using the xmltextreader and looking for the elements I need by using different textreaders for each in a different loop as follows:
Dim treader As XmlTextReader = New XmlTextReader(New StringReader(item.ToString))
While treader.Read
If treader.Name = "summary" Then
content = treader.ReadElementContentAsString
[code].....
and I do the same for each element I am looking for. Now the problem arises when I get the results for each. I use an arraylist for each element and at times I will have an unequal amount like 100 for summary, 100 for title , 99 for id etc...is there a more efficient way of doing this by checking the entry if all the nodes are there and then just skipping it if it's not.
<entry>
<summary>
<id>

I'm having some trouble putting the pieces together.First of all, I'm currently using the WebBrowser component, but would be plenty happy with HtmlAgilityPack if it had some decent documentation, but for a newbie as VB.Net, it's a rough road.
<h3 class="this-class">
<p><a href="file.html">Title</a></p>
</h3>
[code]....
What I'd like to do is grab all the h3's with the "this-class" class and stash them into an array (one in each array element).I'd then like to search through each one and see which has "And Another Title" - which I already have the code to do... I just don't know how to do the first bit.
we are trying to use google to get exchange rate prices. they use a csv file which we get the code to go out and get.what im trying to do is pick the first line of the file and just use that. i have the following code but its not just picking the one line.

I am trying to create a program in VB.net to help me fix broken computer systems by parsing log files. I have some ideas but I have only built simple programs previously. I have ideas how to do this but so far my attempts haven't gone so well.Specifically I can either import a txt type file or copy and paste the contents of a txt file into the program and then have it compare what has been posted to a good/bad list then it reprints out what is bad in color coding. Also if their is a way to update the file it uses for comparison by entering in a txt file that would be stellar.

View 6 RepliesOkay, if someone gets to my website using something like the following address:
ww.mywebsite.com?FirstName='John'?LastName='Smith'
Is there a way that I can pull out the FirstName and LastName and assign to them variables to be used later?
I've looking around but I'm not sure what it's called so I don't know how to search it.
