Jan 15, 2010Just started VB programming this week and have found a wealth of information about what I'm trying to do. Problem is, some of it is more complete than others.Here's what I'm trying to do:In Form1 (my main form), I want to instantiate a class that contains a couple of properties (speed setpoint and position setpoint). When I click a button, I want to pass this data to Form2 and populate two textboxes on Form2 with the properties of this object. I want to manipulate the property values on Form2 and click an OK button which closes the dialog and returns the manipulated data, updating the property values of the object. Here's the algorithm I'm following:1) On Form1, instantiate the class2) On Form1's "Pass Data" button click event handler, instantiate a Form2 object and invoke the ShowDialog method, passing the object as a parameter.
3) On Form2, overload the ShowDialog method to accept the object as a parameter and modify the method so that it returns the manipulated class data.4) On Form2, in the ShowDialog method, populate the textboxes with the class data that was passed in.Here's where I get stuck. If I press the OK button on Form2 (DialogResult.OK), it returns me to Form1, but what hook do I have in Form1 to receive the manipulated class data that the ShowDialog method is returning?Here's an example of what I'm thinking about:

Sep 11, 2009i have a dialogbox (dialog1) i will assign the input from textbox a variable to the from1 but i cant do that.the variable in form1 is Dim get_from_dbox As Long i try to assign to it from dialog1 like below it fails form1.get_from_dbox = Textbox1.Text but i can assign to textbox??like that which works well

Sep 6, 2009I am having trouble passing variables between forms. Ive tried many methods but none seem to work. The first method I tried was to dim a public variable on the first form and call it on the second....no success
Form 1:

Passing a value to a form on startup is a piece of cake, but I don't think I've ever had to do the following before in all my ooooh, 8 months of programming:
I have a main form with a button and a textbox. The button opens another form with a datagridview. What I want to do is pass the selected value from the DGV back to the textbox on the first form.[code]...

Jun 8, 2011I have one form, which the user enters upto 5 websites then clicks go - I have on the second form, the one with the webbrowser. A timer which checks if the web browser is busy then either a green light or black image will be shown along side the assocaited input box on the first form.I am finding it impossible to feed variables into the clock through ByVal, like I would a subroutine or function.

The variable Hey is determined by the first form - Which picturebox.I have an if statement which simply says if inputbox one has url enter then Hey = Picturebox1, If input box2 has url entered then Hey= Picturebox2 etc.What I want is the timer to check the page has completed loading or is still loading or refresing and the appropriate green or black to be shown aside url input box on first form.I considered using a sub or procedure to act as a clock (a large for loop with another for loop within it, acting as a delay). But found this slowed down theapp to the point of crashing it.

Jul 17, 2010I want to pass variables from one form to an other. The variables i I need in the second form( called" Hulsview") are :" hulsbreedte" and" hulslengte". To check if the varibles are passed I added a textbox in the second form,called" hulsview" to check the variable" hulsbreedte". The value selected in the combobox on on form1" hulsbreedte = HulsBreedte1.SelectedValue" returns always 0 in the textbox on de second form.

The user enters the information that makes the commandline and when they click Go it does start CMD but straight away it says it can't find the file.Is there any way I can view what is being sent to the CMD prompt to double check that this is correct? Do I need to specify the path to the file I want it to run, i.e. cscript c: estMigrate.wsf?

Jun 14, 2011Need advice on what is the best approach to get the auto incremented id to be the same on multiple forms.
Basically I am using VB .Net with SQL Server as the backend. I wrote a few stored procedures to insert data and then I am calling the stored procedures on the front end. I have 3 forms and once the first form is submitted it generates an autoID and then takes the user to 2nd form.
In the second form I have a separate insert stored procedure is there a way to grab the id that the first form generated and for it to be consistent. Or should I store it in a variable after they submit the form and then call it in the second form.

Forms :: Share Data Between Forms (as Opposed To Passing Data)
Nov 26, 2011Quite a few threads on passing data from one form to another, but I'm struggling to work out how to share data between the two - back and forth.
For example:
Class1 is a class with 10 string properties
Form1 has 10 labels ("Label1", "Label2" etc) and a [Configure] button.
Form2 has 10 textboxes and a [Apply] button.
I want to load with Form1, and create an instance of Class1. Click the Configure button and load Form2, passing Class1. On Form2 I want to manually fill in the 10 textboxes and hit Apply. The Apply should update the Class1 instance and close the form.
Form1's Label controls should then be updated with the data from the Class1 instance.
I'm fine creating the forms and classes, as well as passing the class into Form2 with a custom Sub New(EmptyClass as Class1) constructor. This gets the empty class into Form2, but how can I get the populated class back to Form1?
As Form1 already exists I don't want to create a new instance with another custom Sub New(PopulatedClass as Class1)
It's also key to be able to use the Form2 multiple times, basically ending up with a Data class being displayed as part of Form1 but updated using Form2? (For example if the Class has already been created and populated with data when it's passed back to Form2 for the second time I would pre-load the Textboxes with the values already in the class).

The stumbling part for me comes in the way of letting form2 know which class form1 has initialized. There are in this example 3 forms to this wizard. If someone starts another wizard whilst half way through the first wizard we need to keep the variables seperate hence using the class. I think I'm along the right track, but maybe confusing myself a little.

Pass Data Between VB6 App And .Net App?
Jan 27, 2012I need to pass data between a vb6 app and a .net app. This data will either be written or read every second. It is about 30 fields. Both apps reside on the same machine. I am currently passing this data via the registry and it works great but it makes me a little nervous. I would do it with a text file but I am worried about data loss.
