Permission Denied When Running VBScript?
Feb 19, 2010
I have a vbs script which captures file information and then exports it to a csv file. I need to run the script on main drives such as C:, E:, I: and more, but each time I run for the main directory I get "Permission Denied" when I try to run it for a subfolder example C:Program Files it works fine. I have tested this on different desktop machines and servers with full admin accounts and still get it.What could be the issue with this code. test.vbs

Dim objArgs

I have an old app, a VB5 front end with access 97 databases all works Ok using the ...program files... folders in XP but I now have a user on Vista and we have problems opening up, and I am braced for problems saving and closing down, if we ever get there.
I sent him a c# applet which found the users folder using string Dpath = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.LocalApplicationData);
I have moved the data and all settings files to a folder C:Users[Username]AppDataLocal[My app Name][My app data Path]
The start up routine checks a settings file uses the path in the settings to re-attach the front end database to a backend database, test to see if the database uses replication and set the default data path for the rest of the app. we are failing somewhere in here I am sure. I have checked and there are no updateable files in program files
Have I got the wrong path or is there something else I should be looking for?
I have an vs2008 version of the app which is using a similar location but a SQL server database- no problems

There are no "non-public" or "static" methods in my code. All are public. What I'm trying to do is pass a FrameworkElement (more specifically a web browser control) that was created in one process over to another process for display and use. Also I'm not using (and would to avoid using) any of the framework 3.5 addin stuff.[code]

I've got a problem whereby I get Permission Denied while accessing a database via OleDB. I know how to unlock this but i'm not permitted to do so. I was wondering if ODBC would work? I'm not sure on the settings around this on my the PC where I'm going to use this application but wonder if this has less security around it. your thoughts until I can test this next week. Or is there another way you may know that I can use a database. (access)

I'm trying to run some VBSCRIPT from within my application. This works fine when I run my program from within VB. But once I add "UIAccess=true" to my manifest and digitally sign my exe with my certificate, I am unable to run the code any more. It gives errors when I try to interface with any program saying "429: ActiveX component can't create object:'myApp.Application'". Anyone have any idea why it would run fine in the IDE but not with an application with uses UIAccess? Here is the code:

I'm trying to run an EXE file using process.start.I've put in username, password and domain that it is accepting (it complains when I put the wrong password, and not when I put the right one, so it is checking etc), and that have local admin rights on the PC.However, when I try to run an EXE that's stored in Program Files, I cannot run it. It always says Access is Denied. When I copy that EXE to another folder, it runs perfectly![code]

I have been struggling to get vbscript working for last three days of relentless effort. I have windows 7 ultimate and upgraded from windows vista. searched the web for solutions and tried out all the options I think I have, but yet no luck.
I tried registering vbscript.dll and I get a succeeded message back. Everything seems to be fine. but, I just cannot run vbscript on my computer. It complains that "can't find script engine vbscript for script ....". I have a hunch that it is something to do with "microsfot security essentials (my virus protection software)" or with UAC.

My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteDirectory("folder location here", FileIO.DeleteDirectoryOption.DeleteAllContents)
I created a program which was deleting a particular directory for me. The program was compiled and working. Today I run the same program...did not do any system updates and now it won't delete my specified directory. I ran tests to make sure the directory is there when testing...I keep getting access/permission errors.
I rebooted system, ran my application...still gave me error. I turned off Windows Defender...still got error. If I manually delete the directory...no problem.
Is there a way to get system permission to delete the directory? I am being given an 'access denied' error...I do not have permission. I tried running my application as administrator...no good. - VB 2008 Express - VISTA OS

I was scripting a very basic process manager, with a ListView component, and it was working fine for many days, up until now.Here is the code for getting processes:
Dim Process As New Process()
Dim Count As Integer = 0
ListView1.Items.Clear()[code].....
The line of code where I put "*WIN32 EXCEPTION LINE* keeps running into an error(Win32 Exception was unhandled; Access is denied). Here is the full error description:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception was unhandled
ErrorCode=-2147467259
Message=Access is denied[code]....
As I said before, this had been working for several days, up until now.

In my web application we have many users. I want to set permission for each user. In our windows application we used Database to store the Permission(Insert,Modify,delete and View). In web application can anybody tell me about where to store the permission. Somebody told that if we use database it will take so much time? In the case of XML it is easy and not taking much time. But if the client set permission for number of users,then it will create problem?.
(Permission means in case of "Category" page which user can view the Category page,which user can edit information about category,which user can delete information of category,which user can add new category)

I wish to convert the vbscript below to vb.net. Note: the functions from the script are also in a dll file but you can install the dsf runtime which comes with the windows ddk and just use the com component it installs from vb.net.

Modifying a registry key we could 'write-protect' our USBs, and I wanted to make a program that would do such but I am getting a permission problem in adding a registry key to the local machine. My development machine is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit but I would want it that it will be able to run on other OS like XP and 32 bits. My thought is that I will use autorun and run my program so that upon insertion it will become 'write-protected' and be able to re-enable it also using the program.

I have a DetailsView that I am using to insert an enrollment form into the database. Currently every functions fine, with one exception. Since there is a terms and agreement checkbox at the bottom of the form that I cannot validate using the existing validation controls, I'm trying to handle this in the VBScript.The problem is that the InsertCommand in my ASP executes before the Button_Click sub does, so the form is submitted before the checkbox validates. Can someone tell me how to move the InsertCommand from the ASP to the code file so that I can make sure it doesn't execute until AFTER my button validation? Here is my code:

I am using Caspol.exe to install a custom Permission set and add Code Groups for my .Net 2.0 Windows Application.
I have created a Console Application that uses caspol.exe to add Permission Set and Code Groups. I first install the Permission Set and if I do not get an error, I continue to install the Code Groups
Now sometimes I need to add a new Code Group to the client machine, so I make the changes to the console app and it is executed on the client machine. If the client machine already has the Permission Set installed, it returns an error and stops the further processing.
So, I want to know if I can check whether a custom Permission Set is already added or not?

VB.NET application which allows user to split a file in smaller files. However the stand alone executable of the application,had a permission problem using filestream to read a file without an OutOfMemory exception, while selecting to split locatein certain directories like "C:".To solve the problem i checked My Project window and the "Security" tab, and i tried checking the checkbox: "Enable ClickOnce Security Setting" and selecting "fulltrust application". This added to my app.manifest these lines of code:
<applicationRequestMinimum>
<defaultAssemblyRequest permissionSetReference="Custom" />
<PermissionSet class="System.Security.PermissionSet" version="1" Unrestricted="true"
