View 7 RepliesVisual Basic 2010 Express: I have a form with a combobox that is populated with the names of locations from a datagrid which in turn was imported at run-time (Form_Load) from an Excel database. The Excel database (and the datagrid) also stores the information for addresses and phone numbers for their respective locations.
What I would like to do is have the phone number and address text boxes automatically be updated with the proper corresponding data when the user selects a location from the combobox. Whether the text boxes are updated from the datagrid or Excel database is not a concern; I'm mainly looking for whichever way is simpler.

And what i mean is that I have a table with Streenames and Postcodes. What I want to do is fistly to choose the Streetname from the one combobox and the interface to appear the Postcodes to the second combobox. Secondly, the postcode combobox should appear more than one postcodes because it is probable that the same streetname maybe belongs to more than one region(postcode).

Let me try to clarify a bit more. I got 2 radiobuttons, if one gets selected, nothing else has to be done.
But if the otherone gets selected, a textfield must have some input too.
I seem to be having issues with the selected index on a list box.
The list box is having various items inserted depending on the user selection. An example would be:
LiIndex = ListBox1.Items.Count

This all work and displays without a problem. The issue I have is if I select the second of the two AND's. If I click the second "AND" in the list and then a button to fire a method, the selected index is always the index of the first "AND". Dim listIndex as integer = ListBox1.SelectedIndex
I can't work out why, the listbox itself will always show the second one as selected, but the action will happen against the first one.

I am currently stuck in one part of my application. I have two combo boxes that i am having the users select from. The first combo box is simply bound to a datatable. that is working properly. The second one i need to populate off another datatable after sorting out what the first one is requesting. In my product table I have product no, product description and category no. In the category table i have category no and category desciption. I have four comboboxes in my Ist form related to course as.c_type,c_stream,c_major,c_nature.......combobox c_type contains the type of courses like degree,diploma, PG etc,similarly "c_stream" contains stream like engg,medical etc. further c_major contains all courses like computer engg(CE),mechnical(ME), physiotherapy etc. and last c_nature has course nature whether regular or private or distance.Now situation is when i select diploma from c_type, corresponding options must be populate in c_stream like engg. Working on a project that contains a listView (populated from a database already) and several textboxes. What I am trying to do, and cannot figure out, is to program this so that when a user makes a selection in the listview, it hits a specific database, and based on certain values within that databse, the textboxes are populated with things such as name and address, etc..

I have a product table with ProductId,ProductName,ProductCode as fields. I've populated a combobox with productnames. Next I have two other tables called Result_Header and Result_Detail. The Result_Header table has ProductId as a foreign key and BatchNo,TestDate etc. The Result_Detail table has ResultId as a foreign key which is the ResultHeaders Primary Key and other fields such as Result,SpecHi etc. What I need is when I select a Product from my combobox my two datagridviews must be populated via the Result_header and Result_detail tables respectively.

View 4 RepliesI am creating a WEB report in Visual Studio 2010 in VB.net. The report needs to display a table (please see the attached image). I am thinking to use the GridView component which i think it's the most appropriate one to choose. In the database there are students' data and marks. I can't alter the database in any way and i have to use Visual Studio 2010 with VB.
What i need to do is to show 3 different pictures(for example) depend on the student's marks. I got the pictures file in PNGs but this can be flexible.For example, over 70 will be a Smile picture. over 60 will be the Normal face. and over 40 will be the picture with no smile. I bit difficult for me to explain but i hope u get my point.
So pls advice me how can i achieve this. I am quite a newbie to this pls put as detail as you can. if there is a choice between client and server side script, i prefer server side script. Data source can be flexible (sql, or linq or anything).
Oddly enough, I've worked around this issue, but it's still annoying me. I worked around it by sending too-long writes, with padded zeroes; the code works but sends a few hundred unnecessary bytes. Specifically, I need to send exactly 992-byte packets instead of 7 or 19-byte packets

At present, you can construct an Employee object by passing a data row which, typically will include all these fields. However, sometimes I only want the ID, Forename and Surname but still want to populate an object.

However obviously if certain fields are not present in the data row, I will have an error. Is there a quick way of populating the object based on the fields that are present within the data row without a) having to have separate subs for each circumstance and b) without having to try / catch (or something similar) around each property? I know other languages have options like this - where if there is no value, it will be another value (i.e. a default).

I'm trying to gather some WMI data, search that data and depending on the results change the color of a textbox and append some text.I can acheive this using a select statement but was hoping there is a more elegant solution as what I have generates a lot of similar code At the moment, the WMI data contains two properties I'm interested "State" and "ReplicatedFolderName". The"State" value determines the color and text that goes in the text box, however there are different textboxes for each replicated folder name.What I have which works is
