.net - WriteFile Failing Depending On Length Of Data To Write?

Jun 6, 2011

Oddly enough, I've worked around this issue, but it's still annoying me. I worked around it by sending too-long writes, with padded zeroes; the code works but sends a few hundred unnecessary bytes. Specifically, I need to send exactly 992-byte packets instead of 7 or 19-byte packets

.net - Amount Of Write Line Instances Vary Depending On YVAL Variable?

Nov 30, 2010

I have a mesurement that could be any random value, just for fun well make that 2440mm i need to divde that by the industry standard of 610mm which comes out at 2440 / 610 = 4

Programicaly written NEWVAL = YVAL / STDVAL

NEWVAL (4) gives me refrence to how many instances I want to append a new line in a txt file I know that I want the first line to say 0,0,0 and the second line to say 0,610,0 the third 0,1220,0 the fourth 0,1830,0 and the last 0,2440,0, though this is easily achived with addition how can I automate vb.net to produce a new write line for each each instace of 610 if the YVAL is user defind.Put in simple terms half would be missing if the YVAL variable is double in length at 4880mm?

Sql - Failing To Read Data From An Excel Sheet With Where Clause In Select Statement?

May 4, 2012

I am trying to read data from an excel sheet but there is an exception saying that no value given for one or more required parameters which I don't understand. Here is my code upto where the error is pointing to:

Dim MyConnection As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection
Dim DtSet As System.Data.DataSet
Dim MyCommand As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter

[code]....

The exception points to that last line MyCommand.Fill(DtSet) which shows me that there is a problem with my select statement. Previously my code reads the data and displays it without the where clause in the select but when I added the where statement so that it can only read data from rows where the column I has a value equal to 176, it instead gives an exception that shows that some required parameter is missing a value?

VBSQL.OCX Is Failing While Loading Flat File Data (text File Data)?

Oct 15, 2009

Our application is using VBSQL.OCX on Sql server 2000 to create temporary tables and load pipe delimited data from a text file with predefined format into the tables. It is failing intermittently doing this. 99% times it works perfectly. But on occasions it does fail with error. Once the process is rerun with the same input file it runs successfully.Basically the architecture is of Store/Head Office where there are around 200 remote stores sending set of data files to the Head Office. At HO our application sequentially processes each store which has all the set of files received, creates a corresponding table, loads the data from the file into the table and moves onto the next store. If it is for some reason not able to load the file for a store, it gives a failure message and continues with next store.Error which the OCX throws is "Attempt to convert data stopped by syntax error in source field"

WriteFile Call Works On X86 But Not X64

Sep 3, 2010

I am using CreateFile, WriteFile and ReadFile API calls to write some data to a USB device. The code I have works perfectly on 32 bit systems. CreateFile gets a handle to the device, pass that handle and some data to WriteFile and read from that handle with ReadFile. My problem is, the same code does not work on a 64 bit system. The error returned from WriteFile is 6, The handle is invalid. I've checked the handle for validity on the CreateFile call and it is a valid handle. A call to LastDLLError() returns 0 after CreateFile. The "file" is being opened for overlapped communication and the overlapped init calls are also returning their proper values.is there some sort of different consideration I need to make because it's a 64 bit system? A different flag? A different call altogether?

API WriteFile Protected Memory Access?

May 22, 2009

I'm currently using an unmanaged library written in C++ and imported via <DLLImport()> to access a dos virtual device driver, and that works fine. However, I'd like to be able to do this via my .NET application (without requiring an accompanying DLL). So, I'm trying to write to the virtual dos device using the kernel32 API and WriteFile, however I receive the error: "Attempted to read or write protected memory."

Mapping to the device with DefineDosDevice and CreateFile (also in the kernel32 API) works fine and returns a valid file handle, however when I attempt to write to the file it fails. I've even tried marshaling the data to an unmanaged block of memory using InteropServices (AllocHGlobal and StructureToPtr) and then writing it from there, however I still receive the same error.

Asp.net - Displaying Different Pictures In GridView Depending On The Data?

Dec 14, 2011

I am creating a WEB report in Visual Studio 2010 in VB.net. The report needs to display a table (please see the attached image). I am thinking to use the GridView component which i think it's the most appropriate one to choose. In the database there are students' data and marks. I can't alter the database in any way and i have to use Visual Studio 2010 with VB.

What i need to do is to show 3 different pictures(for example) depend on the student's marks. I got the pictures file in PNGs but this can be flexible. For example, over 70 will be a Smile picture. over 60 will be the Normal face. and over 40 will be the picture with no smile. I bit difficult for me to explain but i hope u get my point.

So pls advice me how can i achieve this. I am quite a newbie to this pls put as detail as you can. if there is a choice between client and server side script, i prefer server side script. Data source can be flexible (sql, or linq or anything).

Displaying Htm Contents In Browser Via Response.Writefile In ASP.Net

Apr 18, 2012

I'm working on a site that I've inherited that's built with ASP.Net, which I'm only slightly familiar with. One of the pages allows for a link to a document (word or pdf) that, when clicked on, prompts the user to save or open the file, but does not reveal the true path of the file. This way it prevents users from pasting a url to a file - the link is to an aspx file that checks for a valid session, and then retrieves the file.

Anyway, because there's a lot of legacy code, I need to do this with a bunch of static htm files as well, however these files need to be displayed rather than prompting the user to save them, which is what happens now. I tried changing the content type to application/text, application/html, text/html, etc. and that didn't work, then tried adding a response header of content-disposition inline. When I do that, build, and try linking to the file, I get a couple of runtime exceptions:

[FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.]
Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ParseDecimal(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) +206
Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToLong(String Value) +110

[Code].....

Do I have to do something with an htmlwriter object or something? Can't I just have it open a new browser window with the file displaying or does it have to prompt the user if used in this way??

Populating Object Properties Depending On Fields In A Data Row?

Jun 29, 2010

Let's say I have an employee class with ID, Forename, Surname, Initials and Email Address properties.

At present, you can construct an Employee object by passing a data row which, typically will include all these fields. However, sometimes I only want the ID, Forename and Surname but still want to populate an object.

[Code]...

However obviously if certain fields are not present in the data row, I will have an error. Is there a quick way of populating the object based on the fields that are present within the data row without a) having to have separate subs for each circumstance and b) without having to try / catch (or something similar) around each property? I know other languages have options like this - where if there is no value, it will be another value (i.e. a default).

SQL Stored Procedure - Insert Data Depending On User Input

May 13, 2011

I created a sql stored procedure that will insert data for me depending on user input. Now I would like to know usually I would do something of this nature

Dim con As New SqlConnection(connectionString)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("usp_userinput", con) 'references connectionstring and calls store procedure
cmd.CommandType = Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure 'sets default to be storeprocedure
lblMessage.Text = String.Empty
With cmd.Parameters
If (Session("UserInitials")) IsNot Nothing Then
.AddWithValue("@UserInitials", Session("UserInitials").ToString())
End If
End With

That is just an example how i usually approach calling the stored procedure in vb. However for this particular form I am going to have 50 or 60 textboxes which each one would require a session state variable.Seems a little tedious to have to create a session state variable for each textbox on the form.

.net - Get Length Of Data Sent Over Network To TCPlistener/networkstream?

Jan 8, 2010

It seems the most obvious thing, but I just can't work out how to get the length of bytes sent over a network using a TCPClient and TCPListener? This is my code so far:

'Must listen on correct port- must be same as port client wants to connect on.
Const portNumber As Integer = 9999
Dim tcpListener As New TcpListener(IPAddress.Parse("192.168.2.7"), portNumber)

[Code]...

I need to get the length of the networkstream to set the size of the array of bytes I'm going to read the data into. But the networkStream.length is unsupported and does not work and throws an Notsupportedexception.

The only other way I can think of is to send the size of the data before sending the data, but this seems the long way round.

Storing Data With Unknown Length In Array

Jan 15, 2010

I have a piece of code written in Visual Basic:

Dim n As Double, i As Integer
n = 4
Dim Ramp_length(1 To 4) As Double
For i = 1 To n
Ramp_length(i) = Cells(13 + i, 5)
'Cells(65 + i, 7) = Ramp_length(i)'
Next i

Is there a way I can reproduce the result without declaring the array with a "fixed" length? I eventually want the code to read off a column of data with unknown length and store it in an array of equal or smaller length so it can be altered.

VS 2008 - Read Data Offset & Length

Mar 18, 2009

I have a string:

0E0100000000000000000003CB7352

I need to be able to look at Offset 14 and Length is 1B. I need to be able to look at bit 0 - bit 5. I have NO idea how to read data like this so I wish I could be more specific but I can't. Can someone tell me how to read the specific bits and translate them? I have no idea how to google this. So if someone wants to point me to a search pattern. That would be awesome too.

Here is a chart that describes the bits:

bit 0 : Light LED (head) status, 0: OFF, 1: ON
bit 1 : IR-Radar power status. 0: OFF, 1: ON
bit 2 : IR-Radar detector status: 0: fine, 1: barrier detected.
bit 3-5: Charger staus
0x00 : nothing happen
0x01 : charging completed.
0x02 : in charging
0x04 : something wrong, error occur.
bit 6,7: undefined, do not use.
