Jun 13, 2010I'm needing some help with populating a Treeview control using an ArrayList. The ArrayList contains a collection of a class called Task. The class properties contain the following:
1.) taskID (int)
2.) parentTaskID (int)
3.) taskLevel (int)
4.) subTasks (ArrayList)
5.) taskName (string)
Each Task instance can contain subtasks (which is a collection of the Task object), which can also contain subtasks, and so on. The base task starts at level 0. A subtask of the base task would be level 1. A subtask of a level 1 subtask would be a level 2, and so on.
-- The parentID would be the taskID of the parent Task. The parentID at the base task (level 0) would be -1.

Query Database With Each Object In Arraylist And Databind To Gridview?
Apr 21, 2011I have a function that returns a list of account numbers as an Arraylist. I am trying to use each account as a command parameter in another sub routine to get more data about each account number. This only returns the data for the last account number in the arraylist. I need to use each account number, call the database, get the additional information and store ALL of the data into a Gridview (databind). Example: If I had 3 account numbers in my arraylist return 3 rows of data to the gridview. I am struggling with how to get ALL of the information for each value (account number) in the Arraylist. Can someone point me in the right direction?? I think this can be done but I am not certain if my approach is correct or not. Perhaps I need to create datatables that contain the additional information for each value passed via the arraylist.

Apr 13, 2011I come from Access and I am developing now my first windows form app in visual basic 2010 based on a Access database *.mdb. The thing is i have an access db with 5 tables. I have created the forms, connected to the database, all is working great. Parent- child relations are working, datagrids and comboboxes populate the right way, buttons are working.
But now I want to populate listbox, and combox from tables with queries. Like in access I would like, for example to populate two different listboxes bound to the same table with different queries, so that the listboxes give different results, based on different variables or textboxes.
But I don't know how to attack the problem: the query works against the tableadapter, so the info it gives back is always the same. I have tried to duplicate the tableadapter of the table i want to query, writing different sql queries in both, but it does not seem to work. I don't know in what direction I should ivestigate: LINQ, sql queriess, coded queries, filtering the listbox...

OK. I have a typed dataset MyDS with a typed datatable MyTable (TableID, Title, Message).
The table gets filled with results from two tables, using a UNION ALL

So trying to speed up the query. The read of the last item is just to see how long it takes. I do a different method in VB6 and it loads very quickly. Trying to load a dictionary that is over 200,000 rows.

Then I take advantage of the GroupPrincipal.GetMembers(True) which will recurse through a given group name. I test to see if the user exits under that group and if true I put the group name in an arraylist.
I use the for each principal in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers to loop through each returned user to see if they exist.
Is there a way to put all the returned users Principal.Name from a given group in GroupPrincipal.GetMembers into an ArrayList? This would allow me to to use Arraylist1.IndexOf to search for user. Which would be much faster then iterating through a returned list using the for each construct.

Sep 21, 2010What I need to do is read an ArrayList in My.Settings and add another ArrayList to it. The first think I'm trying to do is load My.Settings.Records into myArrayList. I'm not quite sure on the proper way to do this. I've tried things such as Dim myArrayList As ArrayList = My.Settings.Records, I'm not sure if I need New and I'm not sure if I need .Clone or .CopyTo.
Then I have another ArrayList myArrayList2. To get this into myArrayList I've done: [Code] Then to save it back to My.Settings I've done. My.Settings.Records = myArrayList. The problem is I keep on getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on the AddRange line. My.Settings.Records is definitely an ArrayList and it will sometimes = Nothing. The objects will only ever be strings.

I had to convert some C# code to VB and there is a call I make in a third party api that requires me to pass in an arraylist. When I do this in C# it works just fine, but when I do this in VB, I just get back a vaque exception from the api.
