I'm making this program that opens the same forder in every pc but it identifies the pc name to do it.
Public Class cv7import Private Sub cv7import_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

but I want it to do it with the pc's name and I'm not sure how the environment.systemdirectory works, or even if it's the right one to use. Is it the right thing to use or is there a better solution.

I have a little VB 2005 Express app that acts as a gui for an application that normally runs in a cli (cmd-like) window, as follows: Code:Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim Server_Exe As String = "C:Documents and SettingsColinDesktopin 7302OpenSim.Grid.UserServer.exe"
[Code]...
1. The cmd window normally shows various status messages in colour, whereas the RichTextBox shows all messages in Black (on a white background). How can I get the RichTextBox to show the messages in the same colours that the cmd window displays?
2. As the RichTextBox fills with data, filling the box, and beyond, and the scrollbar starts to shrink, I notice that the data at the top of the RichTextBox stays there, and you would have to scroll down to see the last status message, whereas I would like it to do the reverse, i.e the last status message is at the bottom of the visible RichTextBox, and if I wanted to see the earlier messages I would have to scroll up. How can this be achieved?
Private Sub FontToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FontToolStripMenuItem.Click Or Button1.Click

Why isn't this seemingly simple piece of code working?
Code: Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
For Each sp As String In My.Computer.Ports.SerialPortNames
ListBox1.Items.Add(sp)
Next
End Sub
my code as follows
[code]...
result i get here is =0.7937005259841017310542661502
where as windows calculator figure is 0.79370052598409973737585281963615
Just as a secondary question, usually I reduce: -(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) to just () for most occurrences of auto-generated subroutines. Is there any harm in doing this? I cant see any reduction in performance but do get more readability.
View 8 Replies(me = an absolute beginner in WPF / VB2010) how to get the type of sender in (ByVal sender As Object)? Purpose: when two different Objects call the same subroutine, find out which one actually called it.

How do I execute "Button1_Click" when click "Button2" like "Button1.Click(######)"? When I try to write Button1.Click() then that keep asking me "sender As System.Object,e As System.EventArgs". What value that I have to have "sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs"

following code from c# to visual basic, and I'm coming up with the following error: 'Public Event ItemCheck(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs)' as an event, and cannot be called directly. Use a 'RaiseEvent' statement to raise an event.

When I write public events for my business objects, I've adapted the habit of always passing the instance as "sender as Object", in addition to additional specific parameters. I just asked myself now why am I not specifying the class?
So for you with more experience; Do you ever pass the distinct class as sender in an event? And if so, what are your decision criteria for when this is ok/not ok?
In Visual Studio 2008 I am using :Private Declare Function BlockInput Lib "user32" (ByVal fBlock As Long) As Long To stop input from occuring during a search-replace operation.
BlockInput(True) ' do not allow input during search and destroy
Dim cursorIcon As Cursor
cursorIcon = Cursor
Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
Then setting it to false at the end of the operation. It did not work, so I thought maybe it was because I was calling it from a child window, so I created a function in the mainwindow, and ran it like this:
FrmMain.BlockFrmMainInput()With these functions is the Main window:
[Code]...
It did not solve the problem. I thought maybe it was because I was running under the debugger, so I tried compiling and running it debugger-free, but that did not do any better. I am still getting input when I double-click the mouse on either form.
I have the following code that allows my console app to go to the tray with an icon:
Sub Main()
Dim tray As New NotifyIcon()
tray.Icon = My.Resources.phoneIcon

Heres my sub:

Private Sub skill_mouseHover(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles button1.MouseHover, button2.MouseHover, panel1.MouseHover, panel2.MouseHover, pbox1.MouseHover
[Code]....
Now I wish to give onThisTable a different value depending what the user pass over (panel or a pbox or a button) but I cant find what is the correct way to compare what type it is ...
Private Sub skill_mouseHover(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles button1.MouseHover, button2.MouseHover, panel1.MouseHover, panel2.MouseHover, pbox1.MouseHover

When you type sender. IntelliSense lists 5 methods and yet if you type sender.Left or sender.top these will work. Why don't these properties show up as available for use via IntelliSense.

I need to incorporate a private messaging system. I have done some research but do not know what to use. the system needs to be the following.
both a client and server
Be as instant as possible (not sure but if the server could push out the message to the client this would stop a lot of traffic from client software having to connect and check for messages when there is no to be collected).
Be able to work both over the local area network and the internet.
Be able to store messages and push them out to the user when the user comes back online.
Be able to transmit both plain text and html.
In the following code as you see I am defining myFile inside the timer sub; which of course is not a good idea. The FilePath is derived in form load before the timer kicks in. How can I declare myFile globally so it can be used in timer sub as well as in form load?
Private Sub tmrInterval_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tmrInterval.Tick
Dim myFile As New IO.FileInfo(FilePath)
If myFile.Exists Then
...

I want something like this:
Public Class Form1
private myFile As New IO.FileInfo()
'but I do not have strMessageFilePath value yet, that will be achieved in form load.
i'm doing my last year computing project for A Level (using vb.net) and i just need a bit of advice on how to implement something.My system is basically a private taxi hire system for use by the company secretary. They add customers, new drivers, new bookings etc.Add the moment that is all basically coded, with connections to my database etc.
However i was advised that in order not to slip up i need to have a way by when making a booking if one driver is already booked up at the same time he/she is not available. Basically an intelligent booking system that takes into account cancellations, time clashes etc instead of just simply typing in details of a booking and clicking "save".
I have created a synchronized queue and am using SyncLock on the SyncRoot property of that queue when I invoke the Enqueue/Dequeue methods. The methods are invoked from instances of standard producer/consumer classes.Is that a proper use of the SyncRoot property?
Would it be better practice to create a private shared object in each class and lock on that instead?

Is it possible to call a protected method via reflection. I am using this:
Me.GetType.InvokeMember(Stages(CurrentStage),
Reflection.BindingFlags.InvokeMethod,
Nothing,
Me,
Nothing)
Which always calls a method with no params or return. The idea is that the user of my object (transactional processing of business logic) inherits the base class adds in a load of private methods to fire. They then add these method names to a list in the order they would like them fired and the code above will take care of firing them.
It works fine with public methods but not with private or protected methods in the same class (Protected because I have some 'standard' pre built methods to add to the base class). Realistically I could make the methods public and be done with it but my inner nerd wont allow me to do so...
I am assuming this is a security feature. Is there a way to get around this or does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed but keep my tasty, tasty visibility modifiers in tact?
(NOTE: ITS IN VB.NET but a C# Answer is fine if that is what you are comfortable with).
