ProcessStartInfo And Access Rights Are Not Recognized Correctly
Aug 30, 2011
I am using the following code and a remote server:
[Code]...
The problem is that the acceess rights are not recognized correctly. If I log in manually with the same credentials then the rights are set correctly. Is there something else that need to be set for this towork correctly? I just realized I clicked VS.net instead of VB.net (moderator move this to correct area.)

I developed a windows application that uses a SQL Express database. I created a Setup project as well. When I install the application, the database is deployed with read only rights causing errors in the program. Of course, I manually change the rights to Full Control and the application works great. How do I get the database to deploy with Full Control?

W7 isn't letting me delete a dll due to access rights (see FAILS HERE). You see, I need to talk to 2 pieces of hardware (both with same dll name). For XP I have been copying the dll at startup (based on my hw type) without issues.
Public Sub SetCorrectHardwareDLL()
Dim dll As String = Application.StartupPath & "vxlapi.dll"
Dim vec As String = Application.StartupPath & "vxlapi.vector.dll"

I am trying to read some data from the MBR using CreateFile, but I cannot get it to work without admin rights. The code I am using is like this:
hDevice = CreateFile("\.PhysicalDrive0", GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ Or FILE_SHARE_WRITE, 0, OPEN_EXISTING, 0, 0)
Is it possible to read data from the MBR without admin rights?

I've just picked up a project from someone who has recently left our company, and the project file for the project has somehow had XML documentation deactivated. Typing ''' no longer automatically creates XML documentation segments, and existing XML documentation within the code does not show up in Intellisense, and is also not correctly highlighted as XML documentation.
In addition, the Intellisense for the My. namespace contains only MySettings, Resources and Setting under the "All" tab. Everything else is missing. Attempting to manually write My. namespace code results in compile errors. These are not problems with the IDE; I can start a new project and both Intellisense and My. work fine in these new projects. I can only assume that this is something which has been set on the project itself.

I developed a Web Service which calls a ProcessStartInfo class. When I run the WS in debug mode, step by step, It works fine but when I publish the WS, It just does not work and does not even throw any exception. I gave full permissions to ASP.NET and Network users on the .exe which the PSI calls.

I'm using the following sub to print files automatically:
Code:
Private Sub printFile(ByVal path As String)
Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo(path)
p.Verb = "print"
[code].....
It works great for text, Word, RTF, Excel, PDF, etc. However, images load by default with Windows Picture and Fax viewer and then don't print.It looks from the MSDN docs like I should be able to reset the default application assigned to the extensions and then maybe I could find another app that will print properly. And the OS acts like it's doing that. When I double-click on the file it does open with the new app. But when the above sub runs, it reverts back to trying to open with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

I have a utility that I have written in VB.net that runs as a scheduled tasks. It internally calls another executable and it has to access a mapped drive. Apparently windows has issues with scheduled tasks accessing mapped drives when the user is not logged on, even when the authentication credentials are supplied to the task itself. Ok, fine.
To get around this I just passed my application the UNC path.
process.StartInfo.FileName = 'name of executable'
process.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = '\unc path'
process.StartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden
process.StartInfo.Arguments = 'arguments to executable'
process.Start()
This is the same implementation I used with the mapped drive, however using the UNC path, the process is not behaving as if the UNC path is the working directory.
Are there any known issues setting ProcessStartInfo.WorkingDirectory to an UNC path?

I have an application that runs using as AsInvoker manifest, this uses ProcessStartInfo to run another application that is using a HighestAvailable manifest (in my case this runs as Admin and I get the UAC prompt) the first app then quits. The second app then uses ProcessStartInfo to run the first app again, this time it runs as admin (no UAC prompt) I guess this is correct because it is AsInvoker and it is being invoke from an application that is running as admin, but I actually want it to run without Admin rights - or more correctly run it with the lowest possible execution level..I know you can use ProcessStartInfo.Verb = "runas" to elevate but can you descend?

We have a piece of software that attempts to print .tif images using a ProcessStartInfo object. It sets the Verb property to "print" and the FileName property to the path of the image. It then sets the UseShellExecute property to true and executes the Process.Start() method.
However, nothing happens. I created a small test program to list the Verbs associated with .tif images and it only shows "Shell", but not "print".
I cannot modify this piece of software, so is there a way to define or register the "print" verb for .tif image types to allow them to print?

I installed the program my self and tested it on Windows Vista, but it gives a lot of errors because it creates files into the application folder and it doesn't have admin rights. If I right click and select "Run As Admin" there are no problems of course, but It's not for private use...So I'm searching for a way to automaticly display the "Run As Admin" Dialog when I open my application,

I haven't touched a project in about 8 months. It's ongoing for work, but hasn't really been published fully so it gets worked on in my spare time. I went to recompile and the build failed. It had previously worked. I can't figure out why. Part seems to be due to AxOWC11 being recognized, but it shows up in the namespaces. I'm looking for the .dll that shows up as AxOWC11.dll, but I'm not seeing any. I do have one that shows up as AxInterop.OWC11.dll and I do have just a OWC11.dll in my list. I've posted some of the errors below.

i know someone will say this belongs in database programming but i don't think this problem is to do with databases and is more to do with visual studio.
when i start to type oledb.oledb..... intellisense would usually give me an option for oledbcommandbuilder. in the current program i am doing for coursework this option is not given. i can choose oledb.oledbcommand but i do not know how to use it (too advanced for A-levels, yes i'm british) if i actually type oledb.oledbcommandbuilder visual studio does'nt show an error in my error list. so what is going on? how can i get visual studio to recognise oledb.oledbcommandbuilder?

I would like to start a data base. Im using vb2005. I've started a new windows application. I have added a new data source to the project. Then I added a new TableAdapter in the dataSet.xsd part of the project. When I'm completeting the wizard, when I click on the QueryBuilder, when the add table window opens, the table already in the program ( that comes along with the TableAdapter ) isn't recognized. I've clicked on the refresh button but it still isn't recognized. (example: DataTable1 isn't recognized in the add table form in the query biulder of DataTable1TableAdapter)

I have made my app check for an update then if there is an update download the updated version and then close itself. But before it closes, it saves a text file with the startup location of itself. Then when the updated app opens it deletes the old app by getting the old app location from the text file.
but it will only delete the old app if it has admin rights. how can you start (compile) a app with admin right in vb 2008. how to compile app with admin rights.

I'm trying to use MailDefinition in my vb.Net application, but the class is not being found.
Actions:Imports System.Net.Mail ' I use this statement
My intelliSense typing does not show MailDefinition. I get as far as Sytem.Net.Mail - but MailDefinition is not an option.I tried added a reference to System.Net (not necessary, but trying different things), still it doesn't recognize the class.
Question:Do I need to register a DLL or something? How do I gain access to class MailDefinition in my Form class?
EDIT:BTW: In object browser MailDefinition is defined as:
System.Web.UI.WebControls.MailDefinition
I get an error saying that UI is not a member of Web Does this mean I need to add this control? it's not on my Toolbox. Should I look for and register an OCX file?

Never before did i realize the neccessity to scrap the User Account Control, other than for reasons it was simply annoying, until i became a developer. I have an application that does nothing more than remove and create files within its own directory. Are you telling me every application that creates local files require admin rights? Surely something is wrong here. Can this not be circumvented? How do other developers overcome this issue?
