MailDefinition Class Not Recognized In App?
Dec 28, 2009
I'm trying to use MailDefinition in my vb.Net application, but the class is not being found.
Actions:Imports System.Net.Mail ' I use this statement
My intelliSense typing does not show MailDefinition. I get as far as Sytem.Net.Mail - but MailDefinition is not an option.I tried added a reference to System.Net (not necessary, but trying different things), still it doesn't recognize the class.
Question:Do I need to register a DLL or something? How do I gain access to class MailDefinition in my Form class?
EDIT:BTW: In object browser MailDefinition is defined as:
System.Web.UI.WebControls.MailDefinition
I get an error saying that UI is not a member of Web Does this mean I need to add this control? it's not on my Toolbox. Should I look for and register an OCX file?

I am working on a VB NET project and had the strangest thing happen.I created a class file(just like a dozen or so I have already created). I wrote in the code to access it. The autocomplete found the class, filled it in and colored it blue, just as it should.But, when I run the app, I get a type is undefined error.
There is nothing in the class yet. And there is really no code to post..it is as straight forward as I described.I tried restarting VS; Deleting and recreating the class; Deleting the class and creating a new one with a different name.
Is there something in the VB NET configuration I can check to see if it is not being added somewhere?
I found the problem. I have 2 projects in one solution. They both share some classes that were trying to use my new classes. When I hit F5, both projects are compiled, and since I hadn't shared the classes with the second project, it errored.
So, now my question is changed; How do I specify to only build the specified Startup Project when debugging?

I haven't touched a project in about 8 months. It's ongoing for work, but hasn't really been published fully so it gets worked on in my spare time. I went to recompile and the build failed. It had previously worked. I can't figure out why. Part seems to be due to AxOWC11 being recognized, but it shows up in the namespaces. I'm looking for the .dll that shows up as AxOWC11.dll, but I'm not seeing any. I do have one that shows up as AxInterop.OWC11.dll and I do have just a OWC11.dll in my list. I've posted some of the errors below.

i know someone will say this belongs in database programming but i don't think this problem is to do with databases and is more to do with visual studio.
when i start to type oledb.oledb..... intellisense would usually give me an option for oledbcommandbuilder. in the current program i am doing for coursework this option is not given. i can choose oledb.oledbcommand but i do not know how to use it (too advanced for A-levels, yes i'm british) if i actually type oledb.oledbcommandbuilder visual studio does'nt show an error in my error list. so what is going on? how can i get visual studio to recognise oledb.oledbcommandbuilder?

I would like to start a data base. Im using vb2005. I've started a new windows application. I have added a new data source to the project. Then I added a new TableAdapter in the dataSet.xsd part of the project. When I'm completeting the wizard, when I click on the QueryBuilder, when the add table window opens, the table already in the program ( that comes along with the TableAdapter ) isn't recognized. I've clicked on the refresh button but it still isn't recognized. (example: DataTable1 isn't recognized in the add table form in the query biulder of DataTable1TableAdapter)

I have a small app with one form (form1) which is supposed to be hidden until a hot key combo is pressed. I have read and taken sample code from: [URL]. I do have a keyboard class that hooks keyboard input, (I have my reasons) but it's odd that it will recognise the first hotkey and fire the event, but none after that? The problem is, I can make the form show, but not hide again. It will only recognise one shortcut, one time. How do I make it respond to another hotkey combo? Is the handle changing? Even with focus, the enabled form is not hiding again.

I am trying to parse a date to a datetime picker but this error keeps on appearing "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime" The reason behind this is because the date format of the computer is "MM/dd/yyyy" whereas the date am passing is in this format "dd/MM/yyyy" Here is how I tried resolving the problem:
DTDateReceived.Value = Date.Parse(ListView1.Items.Item(ListView1.FocusedItem.Index).SubItems(7).Text)
The aforementioned error occurs

working with dates is driving me mad I have the following function to parse al datetime strings in my project:
Public Shared Function ToDate(ByVal obj As Object) As DateTime?
If obj = String.Empty OrElse obj Is DBNull.Value Then Return Nothing
Return DateTime.Parse(obj.ToString)
End Function
Most of my date strings on my pc are "yyyy/MM/dd" and it parses fine. However on the server the dates are "dd/MM/yyyy".I tried this but it made no difference:
Public Shared Function ToDate(ByVal obj As Object) As DateTime?
If obj = String.Empty OrElse obj Is DBNull.Value Then Return Nothing
Return DateTime.Parse(obj.ToString, System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat)
End Function
on my pc if I assign DateTime.Now to a textbox I get 2011/05/31 08:02:00 AM for example. On the server I have my project the date displays as 31/05/2011 08:02:00 AM. Now I use objectdatasources to save the values to my database. Yesterday I was getting this error:Cannot convert value of parameter '' from 'System.String' to 'System.DateTime'until I formatted the date value like so:
Me.odsRates.InsertParameters.Add("CreatedDate", rt.CreatedDate.ToString("yyyy/MM/dd hh:mm:ss"))

After successfully running an executable file several days ago, I am suddenly encountering a number of inexplicable errors. One concerns the lack of recognition of two libraries:
microsoft.office.core
microsoft.office.interop.excel
How could they previously be found but not now?I am using another workstation but loaded (so I thought) the same application and references.

We have data feed, a file with index values and dates (like the S&P 500, for instance). The dates are represented as YYYYMMDD. The Date.Parse() method doesn't understand this format, of course.I wrote a simple static method on a class to parse this, not a big deal, but it irritates the engineer in me that I can't figure out how to get the IFormatProvider functionality to work. All the examples deal with the FORMATTING step, not the PARSING step.So basically, I want to be able to say:
Dim d as DateTime = Date.Parse("20110522", New CustomFormatter())
and get the correct date value out of the Parse method.
Having implemented the IFormatProvider method on CustomFormatter, the GetFormat() method gets called with a System.Type of DateTimeFormatInfo, but I honestly have no idea what to do from there since all the example deal with formatting, not parsing. It doesn't matter if I return an object (self) or null I simply get "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime."

The problem is that the acceess rights are not recognized correctly. If I log in manually with the same credentials then the rights are set correctly. I am having issues with a user created event being detected by the event handler. This program is in VB.net, defined in an OO way, and there are several other classes that implement the same interface and their class instances all detect the appropriate Event, except for one.
The following code is the base class:
Public Class CommandSpeedTest Implements testInterface
Private SpeedTest As New ArrayList()
Public Event testComplete(ByVal test As IEnumerable) Implements
[Code]...
This exact structure is being applied to three other classes (all of which are instanced using WithEvents in class gui) and being cuaght correctly.
Single stepping through code just executes the RaiseEvent line and goes to the next. It should jump to the event handler and execute the code there.

I'm creating an XML file from values contained in a datatable. When I try to write an XML date value, I receive "String not recognized as a valid datetime. The dates that are stored in the datatable column is in this format "yyyymmdd". I tried to use XmlConvert.ToDateTime but I get a warning about the method being obsolete and I'm not sure what serialization mode I should use. How would I format the date from the datatable to MM/dd/yyyy and write to an XML file?
XmlWriter.WriteElementString("Add date", XmlConvert.ToDateTime(dr("Date_Added").ToString.Trim)))

I am having a major issue understanding why this code runs fine once and then when run a second time causes the "String was not recognized as a valid DateTime." exception. This program loops through folders and subdirectorys and retrieves the file dates from the last modified date of the file , Its only when i click New Report to reset all the values in the settings which clears all object lists and resets all the other values that this issue occurs.
This is the value being passed to this function:
#6/14/2011 4:46:51 PM# (The file inside the subdirectory,s last modified date.)
The function is
Public Sub setFileDate(ByVal fileDate As DateTime)
'Format the datetime from the filedate to a UK culture.
Dim myDateTime As DateTime = DateTime.Parse(fileDate, ukCulture.DateTimeFormat)
'Set the current files date.
dFileDate = myDateTime.Date

I have several <asp:TextBox TextMode="MultiLine"> elements on a page. On load, I populate them (through the VB code behind), and then turn them into TinyMCE editors (through the Query TinyMCE plugin). Each text box also has a button associated with it, with the purpose of submitting the text back to the code behind for insertion into a database.I discovered earlier that when the submit button is clicked, I have to "save" the contents of the editor to the text box, but that is not my problem. Even after I've done so, the edits are not showing up in the code behind.As I've mentioned, I'm using jQuery. Here is my click handler. Keep in mind that all buttons are submit buttons in ASP.NET, hence the submit class:
$('input.submit').live('click', function() {
tinyMCE.EditorManager.triggerSave();
});

I've been having several problems lately with clients that are using a different Windows Region setting than I am. The error is as follows:
The type initializer for 'InventoryDataTable' threw an exception. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'InventoryDataTable' threw an exception. ---> System.FormatException: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.
The error occurs when users load the application and their region settings do not match my own. The application loads up a dataset and attempts to receive a small amount of data before allowing the user to log in. When this is removed, the problem occurs immediately after the user logs in to the app. I cannot seem to find the proper settings to force the user to use either my Region, or to allow the application to figure it out on it's own...

I am creating an XML web service that passes an array of custom types. In my consuming code I am referencing the code as a web reference which I have given the namespace MYWS. Now in code I am trying to assign the results of my web service call to an array of my type like so..[code]When I do this the complier complains, saying: "Value of 1 dimensional array of my.namespace.MyClass cannot be converted to 1 dimensional array of my. namespace. MYWS.MyClass because my.namespace.MYSW.MyClass is not derived from my.namespace.MyClass"Now I understand the message, the thing is they are the same class. The class is declared in my calling code by the web service references a dll from that project. How do I tell the compiler that these are the same type?
