Progress Bar On Window 7?
May 15, 2012
The progress bar on my applications run fine in Windows XP. However when I installed the app on Windows 7 Starter it does not work correctly. A 20 seconds becomes 2minutes one time and 3min 40seconds the next.

I deal with a lot of com class code. So, my code generally doesn't have a UI.I can't count on the calling code UI to handle the progress nor would they know the progress of my routines. I'm used to a language that allows you to call a progress window from any code. I've been banging my head up against a wall trying to find a way to create a simple Custom Control that I can simply call from my code that opens a modal window to report the progress.No matter what, I see a need for the backgroundworker in my code. But if the backgroundworker is declared in my code, I can't expose the doWork in the doworker sub.

Part of my application deals with creating a number of pivot tables. I pull data from a local database, and store it in a datatable. From here, the data is processed and eventually a pivot table is returned. On small data sets it works well, but on some larger one there is a few seconds of "nothing" until the table is shown.
After a few iterations of trying things to display some form of progress I have ended up with a form with nothing but a progress bar running on it. I spawn a new thread, and run it. It works exactly like I hoped. However, when I call the thread.abort() method to terminate the thread, occasionally, the main form will minimize. I tired having me.show() aftre the .abort() to bring the form into view again, but it appears not to have helped.
Now I understand that it is better practice to have worker background threads, and the main thread for UI, but is there a simple way of ensuring that the main form does not close?
Private Sub LoadProgressForm()
Dim progressForm As New ProgressBar
progressForm.ShowDialog()

I am trying to track the progress of a meter in a flash window and click when it reaches a certain point. I am currently using getpixel() to "watch" a single pixel and when it changes to green, perfrom a click. Problem is i have to "watch a pixel" about 20 pixels left of the intended target and then click. Reason, when the program has realized the pixel is green, it clicks, but this has not been as accurate as needed. Sometimes it clicks to soon and sometimes it clicks to late.
Before you suggest using DIBS, i didn't use it because i am loading a 1x1 screenshot and watching that pixel in a loop. I figured since i was continously loading a new bitmap via getpixel that dibs would not be any quicker. The way i read dibs is that if i was loading a bunch of pixels it would be faster because it goes ahead and loads into an array.Is there another way to monitor a meter in a flash window?

I have:
worker.ReportProgress(0, myReader.ReadFields())

If pbFileTransfer.Value <> e.PercentCopied Then
If txtCurrentFile.Text <> e.FilePath Then
txtCurrentFile.Text = e.FilePath

I have a filesystemwatcher which place files in a queue when they are created. From the queue the files are further processed (xml into SQL database).
The mechanism works fine, but I want to add a progress bar to follow the progress of the files in the queue: processing 1 of 10......2 of 10......3 of 10 etc.For testing, I created a batch file to simulate the creation of files, so the filesystemwatcher can to his work and place the files in the queue. When I tell the batchfile to simulate the creation of 20 files, I see that the amount of files in the queue change. For example;

In the app I'm currently making, I have two progress bars. One for current task being committed and the other is for overall progress.During runtime, I calculate how many tasks are being run and set that as the maximum. As each task completes, the progress bar is incremented by one.
I want the current task progress bar to show the progress of the current task. Some tasks can take a few minutes to complete so that progress bar works great. But, if the task is super quick, like editing registry keys, I see no progress at all.When I edit the registry, it basically goes like this:
'Edit Key
'x
'x
'x
ProgressBar1.PerformStep()[code].....
It completes so quickly that I never see the bar even move.I also have each task report its name into a label and it skips ahead so quickly that I only see the first task name and the last.Is there any way to make this do a better job at reporting the progress?

I came across a problem in my program it takes too long to calculate the values needed (about 10 sec) .But thats not the problem you don't know when the program is working or not, as it just locks up until its finshed and I view that as a problem.
I need to be able to show the progress of this .I looked at using background Workers but I get exception "Object reference not set to an instance" I believe this is because the background worker cannot write values or something ,As it works will a normal handler.

I am trying to find the handle of the child window for the Yes button in the User Account Control window so i can click it. This window has a structure with a few child windows with the same name.
Dim hwnd As IntPtr = FindWindow(Nothing, "User Account Control")
Dim hwnd2 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd, 0, "DirectUIHWND", vbNullString)
Dim hwnd3 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd2, 0, "CtrlNotifySink", vbNullString)
Dim hwnd4 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd3, 0, "Button", "&Yes")
There are multiple CtrNotifySink with its own Button child window or other child windows. How do i search thru the different CtrNotifySink window to find the one that contain the Yes button so i can send a click to it? I do need to find it before i can send a click, right? because i try just sending it to the main window with sendmessage and nothing happen.I even try sending it directly to the handle found by spy++ of the yes button with bm click but nothing happen?

I have a VB.NET application that uses Managed DirectSound to capture audio.Everything works just fine until (a) the application is minimized or (b) the application is completey obstructed (covered) by another window.
The thing is that the CaptureBufferDescription structure does not include a GlobalFocus property so I don't know what to do to let my application continue capturing when the main window is hidden.
Here's the basic initialization code I'm using:
' Create a buffer description object
bufCapDesc = New CaptureBufferDescription()
With bufCapDesc

border of that said window so the only place the mouse can't click the titlebar and the minimize,restore, and maximize button. The height of the titlebar depends on what OS the user is using so I'm having trouble because I can't give a definite value for this. How do I detect the height. and also for border i'm not sure if the borders have different widths with different operating systems. I'm using windows XP on classic mode, when I change to the themed mode, the height of the title bar changes so it won't work.

If you have ever noticed in the Task Manager, when you right-click on the running task, you have many options which include 'Minimize' and 'Maximize'. Is there anyway to do achieve this in vb?
