Pull Data Out Of Text File Into MultiDimensional Array?

I have been searching and searching and cannot find out how to do what I'm looking to do, that is the only reason I would post a new thread.[code]...
After reading the file, I want to load the NameId, the ColourId and the Text into a multidimensional array. Anything I have found about loading into an array shows text being separated by small delimiters like commas, but this I cannot do because I need to use this format. What I am wanting to do is load all of the NameId's into a listbox and when a certain NameId is selected, it will bring up the Text in a TextBox and the Colour value in a ComboBox.

how can i pull it into an array and if the textbox = any of the lines then execute event something like this

im just not sure on how to initiate the calling of the text file into an array.or if i could call lines from a richtextbox and if textbox1.text = a line in the rtb then execute. I guess what ever would be simpler.

I can't seem to get the code structure I'm looking for when importing a csv file into an array. The CSV format in question is 69 columns, and unknown rows since it depends on the time length of the data capture. Over the past 3 days I have tried many methods and can output it all to a listbox, as shown below (column headers appear in order), however when I try to put it into an array it only reads the first column. Am I missing something in the declaration of the array, or do I need to use an arraylist? Every permutation doesn't seem to get the results I seek, or I just plain crash the program.

I want to create an in-memory object in VB.Net with multiple columns. What I am trying to do is create an index of some data. It will look like:
Row 1: 23 1
Row 2: 5 1
Row 3: 3 38
...
I know I can use a rectangular array to do this, but I want to be able to use indexOf opearations on this object.

I'm working on a project with a large multidimensional array
resrv(200,12,31,33) it keeps track of information on specific dates within a 200 year range.
What I'm looking to do is save the array to a file so that I can load it again when the program is started.
In VB 6 I used to be able to use a simple for next loop into an open file and load it the same way. It doesn't seem to work the same way with Fthe filestream class in VB.net

I'm working on a new application for one of my Managing Editors at my company. We are wanting to build an application that only has 4 combo boxes for user options and then according to the options that the user selects, the application will spit out 3 random lines of text that can be copy and pasted into another application that we use.We are in the process of creating a rather large (1000's of lines) CSV file that we are going to use as a repository for the text. Let's call the data file SRG9000Data.csv..I'm almost 100% certain that I'm going to need to read in the entire datafile as an multidimensional array because we are setting up the CSV file as follows:[code]For each of THOSE categories, I'm looking at having 8 possible items for <Sports>, and 3 items for <PlayType>, <GameImpact>, and <Scoring>. <Text> is being use as a possible Text Phrase that the system can select from randomly provided that the other area's of the array are met.The CSV file will have 1000's of lines. Of those, the system will "filter" though all of them so that ONLY the ones that meet the selected criteria can be used, then choose 3 of them randomly and use that as output.
Extra information: I am currently establishing that the CSV file being used is setup as 0-7 for <Sports> (0 = Baseball, 1 = Basketball, etc..), 0-2 for <PlayType> (0 = Defensive, 1 = Offensive, 2 = Other), 0-2 for <GameImpact> (Negative, Neutral, Positive), and 0-2 for <Scoring> (0 = Non-Scoring, 1 = Other, 2 = Scoring); <Text> is a String.I am clueless when it comes to setting up an array like this; It's been many many MANY a year since I worked with array's in QB and I feel I may need more than a refresher course.Now, if I'm understanding correctly from some of the forum lurking i've been doing, multidimensional arrays CANNOT be of mixed type, correct? The known name of OrDB would result in a string assigned to the variable Cstr that could be a connection string to an oracle database.

I need to pull a random word from a text file in my resource folder (visual Studio 2010) and then have a user enter a letter to see if it is in the word. Yes, Hangman game. I have a csv text file, shown below that I want to edit based on user inputs. When the user wants to change the current price of a stock, they enter the stock name, and the new price. When the button is clicked, VB needs to find the appropriate stock, and then change the current price.The data needs to be pulled from the text file into a temporary file, changed, then the temp file needs to be renamed to the original file name and the original file deleted.This is the only part of the program I can not figure out. I have put my program code here as well. The click event that I need this to work on is: Private Sub btnUpdateStock_Click --- I have been playing with code in that section, so that's why there si abunch of crazey code there.

I am using visual basic 2008 and trying to create an application to plot data from text files. I have several data files of various sizes. They have an unknown number of rows and either 2 or 4 columns.I need to put the data into 2 dimensional array, so value(,) becomes either value(lines,3) or value(lines,1) depending on the number of columns.My program needs to be able to count how many columns there are, and redim value(,) appropriately.I have written a piece of code to count the number of lines (rows) in the file using 'While not (EOF(1)) ....' but I'm stuck on how to count the number of columns.I could ask the user to indicate how many columns there are before the file is read, but I would prefer the program to detect the number automatically.

I'm writing a game in visual basic 2008 and things are going fairly well with it for the most part.. well until today.. I can declare a 1 dimensional array of a class just fine but cannot for the life of me get the syntax right for a multidimensional array. I usually don't have many issues in writing in VB but this is the first large scale program I have ever written in VB2008 and the 1st large scale uses of classes in VB as well

I'm very new to VB.NET and I suppose this is a little big for a first project.I've done the same thing in other languages so I figured it wouldn't give me much trouble.I'm working on a map editor program for a 2D platformer game.The map will be an array of a structure which contains the width, height, and tile elements of each layer. the tile elements are stored in a 2D array within the structure.[code]That didn't give an exception but I'm not sure that it actually redimmed considering the second assignment command still crashed.

I have profitMarginArray(29,3) <29 is actually a variable, but figured I'd put in a number for the example> and what I need is to retreive elements 0 and 3 sorted on 3 in some way shape or form. The biggest problem is element 3 isn't unique so there could be 5 that have the same value (56.34 for instance) so a sorted list is out.
The current array could look something like
Item1, .34, .75, 54.67
Item2, .32, .75, 57.33
Item3, .29, .5, 42

* I posted this in VB forum at first by accident instead of .Net* I am trying to create a console application that computes the row and column sum and prints the elements with the resulting sums for each row and column.

My column sum code is currently showing the row sums. I need the column sums to display in descending order. So i know it would require a sorted array, but i'm not sure how to go about doing that given i can't get the correct values to show up. So I would need it to display as "Column sums are 12, 20, 13, 24, 51. " and then the next line would be "Column indexes are 1, 3, 2, 4, 5."
