Just wondering if there is anyway to read each line of text that is output from a console application?
Basically I want to use PSEXEC through a vb.net GUI application and I would like to be able to read any error codes that may occur from the command line.
How can I get a label to display what a command line application is showing. I made it so it can show the final result, but I want it to update live as the app is running.

I have been able to get the ping time using Regular Expressions from a ping output and graph it, but am now stuck with more detailed out put of other commands like "Show interfaces" command, how I can parse the Show Interface command output and extract all the useful info which i need?

I would like to create a console program in VB.net that would allow parameters. What i would like to do is in the code below add parameters so the webpart page can be created from the Run menu. e.g. C:.......MyProgram.exe "Design" --This would then create the Design webpart page.

I am working in VB. I have a fairly long and detailed explanation that I'll avoid posting but what I'm looking to find is quite simple. I'm looking for information how the command line executable LAME.EXE (the Mp3 encoder) returns information to the host program/form.
I am a VB novice and a novice to programming in general and am looking to learn more about as much as I can on the whole but basically I have a Windows form that gathers all the necessary information as a front-end:
The input .wav file path
The output .mp3 file destination
The encode settings (bitrate, frequency, etc)This information is pooled in to a string like this: lame.exe -v -b 112 input.wav output.mp3 or any variant on the settings selected in the GUI which is then in turn used to execute LAME.EXE with the set of parameters in a command line console...That's all well and good and it is quite functional but what I'm looking to do is to 'hide' the console in itself and have the encoder feed back its progress, say as a percentage inside the GUI.
The problem is that it doesn't appear that LAME in itself has this kind of functionality explicitly built in. I know it's possible however, as every single front end in the world has this functionality.I have tried a few ways of doing this with avoiding the issue of not being able to find the functionality within the codec. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place entirely or I'm not thinking correctly 'outside the box' as it were.
what I'm looking for is to use a command like this within the script itself: lame(v,b,112,"C:input.wav","c:output.mp3") or even pass the parameters obtained from the GUI a string formatted dynamically on the fly itself.I expect of course that this kind of functionality won't be available anywhere at all, what I'm really looking for as a workaround that reports the actions/progress/console output of the executable back in to the VB program somehow.
I am trying to send a command to the external command line (cmd.exe) from the Windows form application that I'm writing in VB.NET (using VS2008).
I can only access the external program thru the command line (its not my program) and I must do so from a form app.
I am trying to use the following code. I am able to call a cmd.exe window, but I can't pass the command line my command.

I'm making a program that has to execute commands in cmd.exe, but without actually opening it. I set RedirectStandardOutput to True, and I need a way to read the result of the command from the stream. Right now, I use ReadToEnd(), but there's no end to the stream, apparently. I have the program running on a separate process, and my application monitors it to see if it is responding and how mush CPU it is utilising.
Now I have a list of files in my program (listbox) which are to be sent to the application, which happens fine. But I want to be able to read text from the com-line so as to determine when the first file has been processed.
Com-line says one of "selecting settings", "unsupported format" and "cannot be fixed". What I want to be able to do is when it says one of these three things, remove item(0) in listbox1.
I thought of programming an event which handles com_exe.print or something or other, if possible.
What i want to do, is to get my console application to read from a .txt file (with one word per line), and randomly select a line from that file and declare it as chosenword. However, i am not sure what i must do to do that.

View 2 RepliesI'm currently in the middle of a Console Application. I have done everything and it's ready to be handed in. However, I don't want to hand it in like this. I want to build upon it.
One of the ways I'd like to build upon this is with an e-mailing system. I'm find it hard to include the e-mail code in to the project and would like to request assistance. I'm uncomfortable posting the full code on the net as it is for my A-Level Computing and anyone that is doing the same course as me will be able to claim it to be there own.

I would like to know how to set up a conditional statement in a Windows Form (WF) app that would check if a specific command line has been passed by another separate app that launchesthe Windows Form app using command lines, and if not passed, then the Windows Form app would shut down (exit, close).So far, I can use:

View 2 RepliesIs it possible to restart a VB.NET application, but with different command line arguments than it originally had? Here is the challenge. I want to write a single instance application. If the second instance has the same CL args as the first, then the built-in behavior is fine (second instance never opens, e.BringToForeground=True brings 1st instance to foreground, everything is great). But if the second instance has different CL args, then I would like the first instance to close and the second instance to start. However, once you mark a VB.NET app as "single instance only", it appears that you can never get the second instance. I think: OK, fine, I can just restart my first instance from the StartupNextInstance event. But how do I use the new command line arguments from the second instance? The Restart() method does not take CL args that I can see.

2) Save the content over to a SQL Server database
3) Use command line arguments to allow user to specify any delimited file
I have a VB.NET application that takes command-line arguments. It works fine when debugging provided I turn off Visual Studio's ClickOnce security setting.The problem occurs when I try to install the application on a computer via ClickOnce and try to run it with arguments. I get a crash when that happens (oh noes!).
There is a workaround for this issue: move the files from the latest version's publish folder to a computer's C: drive and remove the ".deploy" from the .exe. Run the application from the C: drive and it will handle arguments just fine.
