2010 - Chat Program - LogIn - Read File For Username And Password?
Nov 22, 20101) I have a chat Program.
2) To access the Chat Program one has to put in ones Username and password in a Login Form.
3) TextBox1 = Username TextBox2 = Password
4) One clicks the "Log In" button.
5) HERE is the problem. I do not know how to check if the specific username and the password are correct. I have a file called "Users.dat". In there every valid Username(marked with a *) and it's Password(marked with a #) is contained e.g.*Username#Password.
I want my "Log In" program to check if the Username matches one of the usernames and if the username is found in the file, if the password provided is the same as the one standing behind the Username in the file.
6) If both the Username and Password are valid, the Chat Programs shows up.
Changing Up This Code (HWID)?
Mar 7, 2012i have been trying to figure out auth system and after tons of researching and asking questions, I found a tutorial that "almost" fits my needs. This is what the code does:Basically a new form is created with a textbox and a connect button on it. When the program is loaded, the textbox has your hardware ID on it (also known has HWID). Then it looks for that HWID on a text file of the link given [URL] in this case as an example. If that HWID is found on that text file, then it leads you to form2 which is an actual program and if not, form1 closes meaning you have no access to anything at all. A basic authentication system and here is the code for it:

To be safe, im not directly connecting to my db from the program, because if it was cracked, my db info is leaked,so i want it running through php,

I cant seem to find what the problem is, what i want to do is have the program submit the hwid like this site.com/db.php?hwid=hwid here and have it echo the name in the row of the hwid submitted.
Locking Application To HWID And SmartAssembly?
Nov 27, 20101) How do I lock my application to user's HWID?I want it to work this way: when a certain user opens my app, it automatically scans for his hardware ID and lock the application to it so noone other than the user can use the app.
2) I'm planning to use SmartAssembly trial version to obfuscate my code, will this affect my application in any way? Like, crashing?

I need to check to see if a given username is in a certain role. I cannot use
Page.User.IsInRole("MyDomainMyGroup")
because
Page.User.Identity.Name
Returns an empty string. Because of some lovely specifications for this program, I have to keep anonymous access enabled in IIS. Seems to rule out any page.user.identity stuff.
So I did find a way to (at least) get the current user (from System.Environment.UserName), but I need to bounce it against the domain group to see if they're in it. Or, better yet, get a list of users within a given domain so I can check myself. Something like...
