I'm running Visual Studio 2005 SP2 on Windows 7. When I'm in the IDE and execute a My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists, or DirectoryExists or CopyDirectory, etc. that accesses a network drive using the drive letter (i.e. L:) it thows an error. If I use the full UNC (\computernamesharedfolder) it works. However, if I go into my project's bin folder and run the compiled .exe from there, the drive letters work. I've tried running VS.Net as admin and it makes no difference. How do I get the drive letters to work in the IDE?
View 3 RepliesIf I use a single variable of type Excel.Worksheet to reference Worksheet1, and then change it to Worksheet2, Worksheet3 and so on, is it adequate to simply do "Marshal.FinalReleaseComObject(worksheetVariable)" once at the end? Or would I be left with some references still in memory? In other words, do I need to do a "Marshal.FinalReleaseComObject" before each re-assignment?

The obvious choice would be a listbox that just contains all the letters of the alphabet. But I need to show only the appropriate range of letters, so if I want to use a listbox, I need to write a function that populates the listbox with the first n letters of the alphabet; if n > 26, it should continue with aa, ab, and so on. How do I do this?

Using WMI (and it's code creator) it is easy to find the name of the physical disks on the computer.

Tried to google how to get the drive letter from each of the disks.
I am trying to run a visual studio 2010 app from a windows 2003 server machine that writes xml files to a folder stored on a remote windows 2008 server. I mapped the server drive and can access the folder manually but in the code the 'access is denied' error is hit when the file path declaration is hit for that 2008 server folder. I checked the access writes to that folder and made sure it is shared for that user. Also the user I am logged into on the source server has admin rights so should it not be able to access the mapped drive through the application?How do I grant my app access to that or any folder on that drive on the remote server? I had this issue before but cannot remember what I did to clear this up.

(Nothing to do with the program, but the drive itself).I want to find a way to prevent these temporary drive reconnects from interrupting my code. For example if I input C then the result needs to be \Device\HardDrive1\... Some call it NT Device Name; I think. I have the code for VB6 from vbAccelerator, which works perfectly, but it does not work in VB.NET. My question is there a simple way of pulling the drive info that contains the drive letter and the physical device number. I have searched the internet and found nothing for VB.NET.
