I have a combo box that contains installed printers on my system, a combo box that has the text file I want to print, and a print button I have created. I am trying to find an understandable way to select the file I want to print, then select the printer I want it to print from, and be able to click the print button.
View 2 RepliesHere at work we send straightup text documents to a Genicom, continuous feed, dot-matrix printer and we use the following code in Visual Fox Pro:
RUN COPY *.353+*.360+*.362+*.354+*.825+*.MSL+*.XMS+*.PQR+*.PJS+*.AJS lpt2
I'm having trouble how to accomplish the same thing: simply sending the files to the print queue.
I need to create a driver that can be installed as a printer and instead of printing to a physical printer it needs to print to a text file. I have no idea how to do this. I have searched for an answer on these forums but so far I haven't had much luck. I know it isn't easy to create a driver in VB but I don't know if this is technically a "driver" since it isn't interfacing with actual hardware.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to receive data from the serial port and display onto a text box in my gui in vb. I'm using xp pro sp2 and vb 2008 exp. What i've done so far:
- I'm able to send data successfully (tested) to the serial port
- I can dispaly what data is being sent (tested)
Steps taken:
- I have looked around on this forum for something similar to what I have but no similar posts are here
- Will look into MSDN help shortly
- Will also try some vb books I have lying around. But the problem is most of the vb books deal with sql server and database stuff and not really interfacing to hardware.
I've solved part of the problem, but something I've just realised is the information just isn't getting through and EVERY example I find uses a Console type application and what about us people who don't wanna develop a Console application? I don't but nooooo they don't seem to understand that at MS and put one example which uses exactly that.

now i need to print the Word Document with Printer Default Font(Draft 17.5 CPI) in Dot Matricx Printer
For my current application development I need direct printing technique,For the purpose I refer Microsoft Support page Titled"How to send raw data to a printer using VB.Net "The code snippnet specified is perfect for my application.Refers link [URL]But I need something more like Setting the Printer font to Condensed.By default my printer use the font 10cpi ,by using this font size I limited to print only 80char on A4 sheet, but I have more than 80 char on line so I prefer Condensed font size.
View 2 Repliesget a list of printer's (name, port, model) from a computer over the network. I know how to list my own, but it's from querying the Win32_printer object on my machine, I need to be able to do something similar on a remote machine.
View 4 RepliesI've looked around at pretty much all the SMS posts here on SO and the best answer I've come up with so far is ZeepMobile. The only problem is, they're "in beta" and aren't readily accepting users. Is there a workaround for this, maybe receiving an email via text (kind of like how TwitPic does it?) somehow and parsing it?

What code can I use to send a simple text file to someone else's computer and choosing a save location and vice versa from theirs and loading it into a rich text box in their application that they have open, and vice versa? Their application is the same as mine (sort of like how an instant messenger works-except it does not save, send, and load text files like I am aiming for)

View 3 RepliesInstead of the send message text box and message display text box, I have replaced it with RichTextBox for text formatting (bold/italics/underline/font/color). The problem I am facing is when I format the text and click on send, then the text displayed on the message display box (txtMessageHistory) is unformatted. [Code] Rest of the code of client is related to formatting of the rich text boxes that is not relevant to my problem. I just need to transfer the formatted text from client to server and then back to the client the same way and display the message with text formatting.

View 12 RepliesVisual Studio 2005 I have an application that prints formatted text to a printer. I'm using the sample code from MSDN to impliment PrintDocument.PrintPage. My function for formatting the pages uses exactly the same code.
The problem is that the actual printout is off by one line. The footer from the first page prints at the top of the next page. Subsequent pages scroll down by one line for each page printed. If I reduce my formatted text lines by one, the opposite happens... the header from the second page prints at the bottom of the first page.
I've fussed with margin settings and fonts and I just can't seem to make it print pages correctly. I'm hoping that someone out there has seen this and can offer advice.

I never used the printingdocument class, and i need some info to know if i can do what i'm thinking.I need to send some text from one textbox directly to one printer (i doesn't have to be the default printer), the user just have to push the button in the form, and the text gets printed. I don't need (want), the print preview and the form with the printers list.

View 5 RepliesI have printer vendor provided SDK implementing that i can get printer DEVMODE or HDC with correct printer settings.
My questions is:
I am already using printDocument to print the image (System.Drawing.Bitmap). How can send use this HDC or DEVMOD with printDocument.
I already tried using the "PrintDocument.SetDevMode". it seems not be working.
1. Detect if my printer is busy, because my code tells the printer to print more pages that it can cope with, so I need to delay the command for 'Print the next page' until the printer has finished printing the previous one.
2. Shift the output to my printer so that it gets printed in it's entirety on the paper, instead of seemingly being anchored to some nebulous point on the A4 page. It starts printing at X = 29mm from the left edge, and Y is 28mm from the top, and stops at X = 22mm from the right edge and Y stops at 22mm from the bottom edge, leaving (aprox) 50mm of X and 50mm of Y unprinted.
3. Get useful information on Bounds, which I'm fairly certain is what I need to control where my printing should start and finish.
I've hunted through this forum, MSDN, 'Help' (a misnomer if ever there was one) the VB Library and one or two other forums, which either baffle me with reams of code or suggest code to try which either just don't work or which doesn't declare all the variables and usually don't suggest what type of variable I need, it's all very frustrating

I have labels that give questions and 16 text boxes 5 list boxes and 10 check boxes to receive input from users how can I arrange the input into a paragraph and output to printer?
