View 3 Replieshow to receive and send variables between the call sign:
Sub ...
call Getsub(t)
end sub
function Getsub(ByVal t as integer)
end function
I think I understand how to receive t. Now t will be able to use in the function. How do you send back a variable from the function without the use of textboxes (say variable, x) ? Secondly how do you do it for multiple variables?
In a page to create new user accounts, we have a database with a little of allowable users. To streamline getting the Email address of the new user correct, we want to use an AutoComplete extended textbox.Now I know that WebMethods are working because I have a cascading-drop-down tied to web methods in another page.As I'm just starting on this page, the code is simple.The page itself:
<cc1:ToolkitScriptManager ID="ScriptManager2" runat="server"/>
<p></p> Please enter new user's Email:
<asp:TextBox ID="txtUser" runat="server" />
<cc1:AutoCompleteExtender runat="server" ID="autUser" TargetControlID="txtUser"

I'm not even getting to the LogDebug statement. I've used all the same boilerplate code (Inherits, the 'WebService' tags, etc) that worked in the other WebMethod with the appropriate changes to the Class name but this really has me stumped.
I'm trying to use an auto-complete, and it works fine if I call a function without a parameter in the web service:
<WebMethod()> _
<Script.Services.ScriptMethod()> _
Public Function GetCompanyNames2() As String()

I am trying to service AJAX requests with a method in my .aspx page. For some reason I am not getting the data returned that I want.
mypage.aspx:
<%@ Page Language="VB" Title="My Page" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Web.Services" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Collections.Generic" %>

When I click mybutton I get an alert "error:" and then whole lot of HTML that says:
Unknown web method testmethod.
Parameter name: methodName
I know how to call a simple old fashion asmx webservice webthod that returns a single value as a function return result. But what if I want to return multiple output params? My current approach is to separate the params by a dividing character and parse them on teh client. Is there a better way.

I've solved part of the problem, but something I've just realised is the information just isn't getting through and EVERY example I find uses a Console type application and what about us people who don't wanna develop a Console application? I don't but nooooo they don't seem to understand that at MS and put one example which uses exactly that.

from and to a text file. that's no problem and was done within a hour. (tnx to google)Now the problem. i want this textfile to be online. Normally with webpages you can read and write a file very easy but i've never done this withSo far the read code works. write code works in local mode, the only thing is he won't write to an online file.i don't get any errors the code looks fine for the debugger.the code so far (local mode for testing)
read:
Private Sub read()

What code can I use to send a simple text file to someone else's computer and choosing a save location and vice versa from theirs and loading it into a rich text box in their application that they have open, and vice versa? Their application is the same as mine (sort of like how an instant messenger works-except it does not save, send, and load text files like I am aiming for)
View 3 RepliesInstead of the send message text box and message display text box, I have replaced it with RichTextBox for text formatting (bold/italics/underline/font/color). The problem I am facing is when I format the text and click on send, then the text displayed on the message display box (txtMessageHistory) is unformatted. [Code] Rest of the code of client is related to formatting of the rich text boxes that is not relevant to my problem. I just need to transfer the formatted text from client to server and then back to the client the same way and display the message with text formatting.
View 13 RepliesI have a Web Service with one WebMethod for which return value is boolean.It accepts XML file as string and process data. How can I first return status as true and then call the ProcessData method.
As the processing data takes time I need to return true first and then process the data.

We're in a strange situation with a legacy winforms VB.NET 1.1 application using ASMX web services. Trying to send a user Token from a WindowsIdentity object as a parameter to a WebMethod. I will be adding a 'HACK: comment. System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Token
The token is of type IntPtr, the first problem is the WSDL being generated doesn't support IntPtr with the error of 'unsupported type'I'm aware this is a big WTF question and sounds insecure, so any simple helpful alternatives are welcome but there are a lot of constraints on how we can change this system, including complications with the hosting environment. So I would just like to get our piece of data over to the web service to save a lot of other headaches.

In the above code I am having issue debugging. The point of this is in the HTML I have three select tags.District, County, and City. If you select a District it should update County and City to limit only the Counties or Cities in that District. City works perfectly but County does not. I discovered that when running through this code above if it runs through the County Case segment it just stops filter = String.Format("maintdisnmbr in ({}0)", filterValue). If I step through step by step the code does not finish. If I don't go step by step and jump ahead it gives me an error saying the Input string is not formatted.
I'm not sure what's wrong with the following setup. I have a View that lists a number of records, and each has a dropdown associated with it to change a value on that record. I had it all working without AJAX, but you had to change a bunch of the dropdowns then click a Submit button. I wanted to change it so that it would save the dropdown choice immediately.
My stripped down View (of type IEnumerable(Of MyTable)):
<script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftMvcAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

What I would like to happen is for the dropdown change to trigger the Update controller, but probably not return anything - just update the database and let the user move on. What's happening though is that a blank page is displayed with the Content value on it (i.e. "123: ABC"). It's the correct id/code combo, so the Update seems to be firing correctly, it's just choosing to wipe out the html.
I accept both C# and VB.NET If you visit this [URL].. and then click on the link like the image below you'll see in-line pop-up DIV which displays a busy status of Ajax callback before it displays the information. So, the information is not there yet until you click on the link.
I'd like to do the same but ASP.NET and jQuery. If there's any place to help me get started on the right track?
I have an ASP.NET application with a button that executes VB.NET on the server when clicked. Specs have changed, I've added a menu of sorts which is to replace the VB button. With some from S.O., I've managed to manipulate some javascript which does a postback and executes the button's code. I figured I could just make the button invisible and still be able to call it's on_click event from js. How wrong I was!
So now, somehow I'm supposed to call a VB sub from either javascript or (boss says) ajax. I have no idea how to do this. Could anyone give me a good direction as to how I can call a VB.NET subroutine from ajax on the client? Or javascript?
Searched a bit, couldn't find a clear answer.I have a big HTML table with numbers in it. I have a selector (radiobuttonlist) that the user can click if he wants to see the table in $ or days.Right now it works perfectly but the page refreshes because i'm calling a code-behind function (RefreshTable) everytime the user clicks on one of the two radiobutton since it changes the format and needs new calculation done by the RefreshTable function
. Is there any ways I can call that function without refreshing the page using ajax or something ?
The function has only one parameter : ProjectID, it's coded in VB.NET and we're using ASP.NET
Here's the table code from the .ASPX page, it's only the shell, everything is added thru a VB.NET method called when the RadioButton is changed (autopostback=true), so we check wich one is selected and execute the VB.NET method to populate the table. (code of the function is below)

I have a piece of JQuery AJAX that calls a VB.NET code-behind (class) that returns string data. It grabs some latest stats on a particular server. Now the code works, but the first time I press the refresh button data is returned and the alert "Refreshed" is shown on screen.
But if I press it again, the alert box "Refreshed" is shown twice, I click again three times! and on and on, until the time-out kicks in.It seems to be coming from the AJAX call and no where else. I'm at a loss at what could be calling this, I've tried deleting the data returned after success but no joy.
function RefreshServer(btn,div,id,ip) {
$('#aRefresh'+id).html("<img src=images/refreshServer.gif border=0 align=absmiddle />");
$("#"+btn).click(function() {

i have a jQuery AJAX webmethod in ASP.Net that works perfectly fine when tested locally. but when uploaded to the server, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. when i debugged the code with firebug i see the the webmethod gets called but jumps right away to the error section of the ajax script.
jQuery code:

$(document).ready(function () {

I have some update panels on my page that do some asyncpostbacks to keep some dropdownlists correctly populated. My problem is that on my page i have an HTML input that is handling some file uploads. With the AJAX on the page with asyncpostbacks, and while i step through my code behind, the files arent being uploaded. Using a postbacktrigger (non-async) is not possible because of my layout.
Here is my code:
<div id="divFileInputs" runat="server">
<input id="file1" name="fileInput" type="file" runat="server" size="50" style="width: 50em"
onfocus="AddFileInput()" class="textbox" /></div>
[code]....
When I put a breakpoint in at the declaration of service and then check the value of "files", the count is 0. I am expecting it to be 2 when i have one file uploaded.
Since a few months I want to learn how to receive and send packets. Since WinSock doesn't work I think it'll be quite hard to get an easy way to do it.
I want to be able to send and get packets as a client. (TCP) I know that I need System.Net.Sockets, and that's quite everything...
I was going over the Screen Saver Tutorial for VB Express 2005 and i Noticed How the Screen Saver app excepts params at startup... and depending on the startup param it will display the screen saver or the options form... lets say that i want to start up a screen saver from my program, how would i send it to the screen saver to display the options form the param is "/p" or something.
View 2 RepliesI have a program that is meant to send and receive pictures. There are two parts, client and server, the server sending pictures, and client receiving.the server needs to send it across the internet, then the client needs to receive and show the image in a picture box.

View 1 RepliesI need to send and receive a large image between programs running on different machines within the same network.
I've looked at using upd however ran into problems with the size of the packets and
(after breaking the image into smaller pieces to get past this problem) the number of packets needing to be processed all at once - and ultimately packet loss.
I've also thought of sending the image by storing it in a common file folder and receiving it by using file watcher as a trigger. However, this just adds further complexities in setup where common folders don't already exist.
Assuming I'm barking up the right tree looking at tcp, can someone point me to/provide an example of how to send an image file using it (vb.net would be ideal). Also, are there practical limits to tcp package sizes?
I have these following lines to send bytes using socket
Dim server As New Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp)
Dim myIp As IPAddress = IPAddress.Parse("myIP")
Dim ip As New IPEndPoint(myIp, Int32.Parse("myPort"))

As in the code, I am supposed to retrieved "Halo". Instead I keep receiving sth like "[]".
I'm using asynchronous to send/receive from a website I want to block the BeginGetRequestStream method which I have done, using
Code:
WaitEvent.WaitOne(1000 * 20, false);
the problem is that it blocks the UI, which I thought it did not so it basically works like GetRequestStream which does block the UI.
