View 2 RepliesI want to implement the auto recovery feature in my application. i.e auto recovery of data from power failure, system crash,etc. Since the program is an multiuser with different access levels to each user, I want to save the data in a file which can only be recognized by the program. I don't want to save the data in the db, as there are many modules in which this feature has to implemented, which will make me create an separate table for each module, for temporary storage.
View 1 RepliesIn my application, the password is encrypted and if the user forgets the password, there is no way to recover it. Now we are cancelling that user account and creating a new one. Now I want a proper method to recover the password. The login is done using the Asp.net configuration tool. How can I recover my password using this? Is there any alternative option for this? How can I decrypt my password in the database?
View 3 RepliesFor a while I was having trouble finding where my projects were being saved on the hard disc. Projects were being stored in at least two places, well I sorted that out and finally copied everything to the one location.Today I went to revisit an old project but it looks like I wast careful enough before I deleted all the duplicate projects, and now I find that two I want to look at are long gone.folders for these projects which include these files: -
xx.application
xx.exe.deploy
xx.exe.manifest

i need the vb password recovery control to email the user his username and password from the database (sql server)
View 1 RepliesI'm using the ASP.NET Membership provider and using the Password Recovery control to reset the user password if they forget it. On the whole it all works fine, but with one catch when it comes to validation.I have expanded the PasswordRecovery control out to use the template feature to customise the appearance, which is all fine. I have set the user lookup error handler using:
OnUserLookupError="PasswordRecovery1_UserLookupError"
in the opening tag and if I load up the page, type in some junk name and click submit this fires as expected, in all browsers. The snippet of VB code makes an error div visible and sets some text.However, if upon loading the page for the first time I type a duff name into the username box and hit the enter key to submit the form, in Internet Explorer (version 8), the UserLookupError event fails to trigger. It triggers just fine in Chrome or Firefox, just not in IE. I know it's not a focus issue on the form, as I can see the form is being submitted.If I click the submit button first, then following that hit the enter key it does fire, it's just that first time it doesn't, and only in IE.Also to add that if I set breakpoints in the VB code to check to see if the page is being submitted, I can see the Page_Load event fire when I hit the enter key, but not the sub PasswordRecovery1_UserLookupError.
I'm working on a website using VB (ASP.NET)I want to implement a password recovery code without using the controls in asp.net I didn't use ASP.Net Membership for logging in, I have MSSQL database with USER table? when the user forget his/her password, he/she enters the email then press a button to submit, then I have to find this email in the user table, retrieve the user name and password, generate new a random password, update the password with the new generated one, and finally send an email to the user with the username and the new generated password.
View 1 RepliesI want to programmatically change the Startup and Recovery options in Windows Server 2008? To be more specific...
- I'm writing my application in VB.NET 2.0 using VS2008
- I want to enable "Automatically restart"
- I want to set "Write debugging information" to none
That's it. I found a thread that speculated it might be do-able using System.Management but after looking through the documention in the library I can't find which might do that.
Note: It looks like this might be possible using BCDEdit (which I could call through a Shell command) but I can't find the syntax for that either. I only mention it because that would be a solution to my problem if it can't be done internally from the program I'm writing.
I want to Design a password recovery program, but I don't know how to go about it and do the code?

View 2 RepliesI would make an unattended recovery disk for my Dell laptop using Windows PE 2.0 and, so I am in need of a program which analyzes the first disk on the system in order to get all partitions.
The program should check:
- if there is an OEM partition (hidden);
- the number of logical partitions;
- the number of primary partitions.
Then, if there is only a primary partition, the program should delete it and create two primary partition...Is it possible?

View 1 RepliesI just lost 1/2 hour of work when VB IDE suddenly lock up in a loop. I thought no big deal, I have it setup to autosave every 3 mins. It would have backup up at least 10 times. Killed VS via task manager. Brought VS backup. Went into my project and I am back where I was 1/2 hour ago.Is there a way I can still recover my work so that when this happens in the future I can recover lost work?

The UserID must contains SIX digits follow by a single character, limit the entry to a maximum of seven characters only.
The postfix character of the UserID is derived from the summation of all the six digits divided by seven and using the remain as followed:

I am trying to subclass the password recovery control in asp.net (4) so that I can override the behaviour of the OnVerifyingUser event but I'm having trouble adding my subclassed password recovery control into the page. I tried creating an asp:placeholder control and adding a new instance of my subclassed control to it but I just get an error that says "An entry with the same key already exists". I've tried doing this in the page_init and page_load methods but get the same error.
Here's an example of my subclass

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to upload a file via FTP from my local computer to an FTP server, which is also on my local computer at the moment. I've got this sub I'm calling:

clsRequest.Method = System.Net.WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFile

I am trying to create a log file which I am going to use to populate some controls (DataGridView or Treeview). I am trying to figure out if should use text files or XML files to do so. Effectively the log will highlight multiple phases in a client-side app. The log will be written to at various phases when the project is running. The user will always have the options move on to the next phase or save progress and exit the project. As such, I want the log file to highlight how far the user has progressed throught the various phases AND I want the log to highlight varous information from each phase. Whenever the user starts the project, they will be given the option to load existing log files. So the project will have to read these log files and append them where necessary as the user progresses.
I am not sure what the best way to do this is and below is a rudimentary approach using text files. As you can see, the top of the file would have a summary of all the phases and whether or not the user completed each phase. Next each phase would have a data section highlighting what data was stored along the way. I have used a ":" to denote each section. Then within each section I would obviously need to use a delimeter for all my data. So if Phase1 = True, then I would load all the pertinent data from "Phase1:" into the desired control. Can anyone provide an efficient way of doing this and provide some insight as to whether I should use XML instead. The phases my change during development and I am not sure yet which controls I will be using. Does XML provide more flexibility.
In summary I am looking to create, read/write and append log files and populate controls with the data in varous sections of the log file. Example:
Phase1 = True
Phase2 = True
Phase3 = False
Phase4 = False

I need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know:
1. how to open a new file
2. how to specify the record length
3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
I have File Like "Sample.bak" and when I compress it to be "Sample.zip" I lose the file extension inside the zip file I meann when I open the compressed file I find "Sample" without any extension.
I use this code :
Dim name As String = Path.GetFileName(filePath).Replace(".Bak", "")
Dim source() As Byte = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(filePath)
Dim compressed() As Byte = ConvertToByteArray(source)
System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes(destination & name & ".Bak" & ".zip", compressed)
Or using this code :
Public Sub cmdCompressFile(ByVal FileName As String)
'Stream object that reads file contents
Dim streamObj As Stream = New StreamReader(FileName).BaseStream

I need to compress the file without loosing file extension inside compressed file.
I am working on a VB Console Application that takes an Autocad drawing type DWG and converts it to a PDF using a shell command that calls a third party application. In this case, acmecadconverter.exe from www.dwgtool.com. Then the PDF that is created needs a unique watermark, so I call a second application for that called pdftk.exe from www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/.
Everything works as intended, except when I try file names that contain spaces. The file system object does not tolerate spaces in the drawing file name. For instance, the following command gives me a system.io.filenotfoundexception...
My.Computer.FileSystem.RenameFile("Test Flowchart1.dwg", "Test~Flowchart1.dwg")
It's the same problem for all of my File System commands. Either file not found or invalid arguments.
The complete script I'm using is here:
Code:
Sub Main()
Dim arrArgs() As String = Command.Split(","), _
i As Integer, folderPath As String, myPart As String, _
