View 1 RepliesI am reading a text file and I need to replace a few areas with new text that I marked with {0}, {1}, {2}, {3}, {4}, {5}, {6}. So I load in the text, save it to a string variable, and then use String.Replace but it's not working.
For i As Integer = 0 To 6
fileText.Replace("{" & i & "}", DisplayStudentData(i))
Next[code].....
I put all the data items into an array, then did this after loading the text file:
fileText = String.Format(fileText, dArr(0), dArr(1), dArr(2), dArr(3), dArr(4), dArr(5), dArr(6))
Is this a good way of doing it?
I am trying to replace text in my xsl file. I have to replace all the http and https. But I can leave any links that start with <a href>
Ie; http://www.google.com has to replaced. But < a href="google.com">google.com</a> has to remain as it is.
I am using regex to find all the http(s) and a hrefs in the text. I am struck here.
My code is,
Dim href As New Regex("(<a.*?>.*?</a>)", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase)
Dim hrefs As New Regex("http(s)?://([w+?.w+])+([a-zA-Z0-9~!@#$\%^&*()_-=+\/?.:;',]*)?", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase)
[Code].....
I am trying to use Regex.Replace to replace my https. But I am unable to write the evaluate function.
My regex.replace replaces all the values with a single value.
Public Class Form1
Dim x As String
'TCC ENCYRTION CODE, COPY RIGHT OF T.C co
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
[code]....
i want to change ALL the a's in the programs textbox1 to b's when the encryption button is clicked (button 1), remember when it is click it determines weather the text in textbox1.text is more then five, if so it goes onto replacing the a's if not, then it shows a error message?
What am I doing wrong here?

Update 1 This is the original string: This is what it looks like after my VB code: As you can see, the http: part is added, however the backslashes haven't been touched. Update 2 It has something to do with the slashes. Because when I replace other characters (for example a with @), then the replaced string is shown correctly. But not the slashes
I am trying below code to replace <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> with "" But is not replacing anything.
Dim value3 = result.Replace("<?xml version=""1.0""encoding=""utf-16""?>", " ")
My Find/Replace Edit Menu command inside VB 2005 is not working anymore, and SQL Server 2005 as well. When I tried to check this feature in Microsoft Office applications, there is no problem at all. It's mysterious, I don't know what happen. I also tried to re-install VB and SQL, but still it didn't work.I know it is a petty problem, but it plays an important role when editing your codes.

View 9 RepliesI'm not sure why the following code is not working as intended:
CODE:
Where litMessage is the name of the literal control and messageBody is the name of the string variable.
My intention is to output a string onto a web page and to replace the line breaks with a br tag so that it can be displayed on the page correctly. However, nothing is replaced. When viewing the page source, it looks like the line breaks still exist in the string. Similarly, when displaying the string via MsgBox, it displays normally as well. I have also tried wrapping the output with the pre tag and it displays the line breaks properly as well.
The string was originally entered by a user through the use of an asp:Textbox and saved into a MSSQL database. It's retrieved and displayed on another webpage using an asp:Literal control. The only thing that happens to the string before it is submitted is that it is trimmed (i.e. textbox.Text.Trim()).
Perhaps there is something I did not consider?
Edit #1: Due to time constraints, I've decided to just wrap the text with the pre tag. It's an acceptable work around as it preserves the line breaks. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why the code didn't work in the first place. In the meantime, I'll just leave the question unanswered until I find a proper answer.
Edit #2: Solution found and answered below. UpdatePanel tag added to the question for future reference.
The file reads in parameters and two of the parameters used to be in Date Format YYYYMMDD but will now permanently be in format YYYY-MM-DD. This change, I believe, is stopping the import of the file from working. I would like to replace the new format YYYY-MM-DD back to YYYYMMDD in the code. If possible I'd also like to see some output so I know that the old format has been replaced with the new format. The code is below. I added the two rows with .replace code in green in expecting that to be enough but it is still not working.

Sub Main()
Dim R1, O1, P1, C1, strDateFrom, strDateTo, strRunDate

I'm working on a timekeeping application in Visual Basic 2008 and am having trouble formatting a timespan for display. Here's how I want to the information:If a positive number my Label will be: lblTimespan.txt will show as "12 Hours And 15 Minutes" This works fine.If its a negative number I want to display it as "(12 Hours And 15 Minutes)'[ in red. The problem is that I can't get rid of the minus sign. [code] Thr Replace doesn't seem to want to replace the "-", can anyone suggest what to do?
View 2 RepliesI have a bunch of object variables which are all initialised in their declarations such that:
Private _myObject As New ThisObject("SomeString")
where ThisObject is one of a number of object types, but all are initialised using a string.
I would like to use the Visual Studio Find/Replace dialog box to search for "As New" then replace everything from "As New" to the first set of speech marks with some text such that:

My original example could be solved using other methods. This example is more representative of the actual problem:

I am trying to think of a regex replace to replace double quotes with nothing. Example:
hello("hi there") would become hello(hi there)
"hi" would become hi
"example "3" would become example "3
-edit Maybe an easier way to explain this is, replace all " that do not have a backslash before them.
I am trying to filter out all unwanted characters from a string. All I want in the string is letters A-Z, numbers 0-9 as well as comma (,) plus (+) and quotes (").I figured how to do the letters and numbers, but the 3 special characters are giving me a problem. I also tried with the Chr(34) equivelant for the " sign, but no luck, as and " or , messes up the way the code is read. Heres what I have so far, but it only works for A-Z and 0-9:
STR = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Replace(STR, "[^A-Z, 0-9, Chr(43) ]", "")
How can I specify in my string that I want to replace occurrences of ALL characters and replace them with a specified character? Something like this:
'assuming currentWord is a string that contains any word
_myWord = CurrentWord.Replace("a-z,A-Z", "*")
I am using replace function to replace a character in the file
sw.WriteLine(Regex.Replace(strLine, "\", Chr(13)))
This code is working fine, but now I want to replace two times and I want to use the replace function twice. Something like this, but it is not working . Can anyone tell me how to use Replace function multiple times?
sw.WriteLine(Regex.Replace(strLine, "\", Chr(13)).Replace(strLine, Chr(13), ""))

It appears that my favorite thing in the world is tackling projects that are beyond my current knowledge and abilities. I have a little project that I am working on which is a simple image viewer stocked with (upon completion) your standard Load..., Next/Previous, Zoom In/Out, Actual Size, and Full Screen capabilities. However, I am running into a few snags:
(1) I've been able to get my "Load..." button to display a file dialog box, but I cannot seem to get a working filter (with which only image file types are allowed to be selected) in working order.
(2) I have a PictureBox object (entitled PictureBox1) that displays the image selected via the file dialog box, but it loads images in their full size (1:1/100% zoomed) state without scrollbars, etc. to allow me to navigate the loaded image. I would like to have it load the image, initially, to fit within the dimensions of PictureBox1 and from there be able to zoom in/out via my "Zoom In/Out" and "Actual Size" buttons and be able to scroll if the zoom level is beyond the dimensions of PictureBox1.
(3) It dawned on me that I haven't the faintest idea how to get my "Next/Previous" buttons to allow the user (me) to navigate, in succession, the images contained in the folder in which the currently loaded image is stored. [code]

View 2 RepliesThe user enters a numerical value in textbox1 and click search. This searches for this value using PackageIO (any other options you guys think would be faster would be great) and will return how many instances of that value have been found. There is a second textbox and button that will only be enabled if 1 instance is found. If more than one instance is found, an error message pops up. I'm not too experienced with PackageIO. Here is what I have so far. The program crashes every single time. I'm positive there is something wrong with either part of it or the whole thing.[code]...

View 13 RepliesI currently have a sql command that inserts info into a table through one of my statements. One of the tables columns is defined as an integer. The integer value inside that columns cell's is one that I would like to retrieve, and then set it to a value my enumeration (a string value) and later display on my datagridview.
The problem I am having is that when I retrieve the column's value from the table(let's say 1) I can't set the value of the rows cell to my enumeration type, it tells me the table holds integer values only and so I can't change it to text. How can I accomplish retrieving my integer value, setting it to my enumeration type (a string value) and displaying it in my datagridview in the same cell that the integer was?
