I created a sub in a module and it should be used from 2 or 3 forms.The calling will look like this:
"Call PasswordCheck(Me.Name)"
I tried codes like:
"My.Forms(Source).txt_Password.Text"
But it told me that it can't be indexed.
Lets say my program requires a password of "vbforums" to bootup. The user enters "vbforums" and clicks enter to proceed to the program.I want to make a registry value in the registry under my program with that text. And now on load up i would want to be able to check to see if the correct password is in that specific spot in the registry.I have never fooled with the registry so im pretty lost, i tried doing a bit of searching on the forums but couldn't find anything. Anyone know how i would do this?
View 1 RepliesI am getting the error "Object reference not set to an instance of the object" Debugger is suggesting to use the "New" keyword to create an object instance, or to Check to determine if the object is null before calling the method. Error is occurring on line 27: "sReturn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings(strConnection).ConnectionString" I;m not sure where to go from here.

My computer's assettag formats like "1234567.1", the number behind the dot represent Node ID, which is assigned automatically by BMC chip during computer POST.
The question is, when I am using objSMBIOS.SMBIOSAssetTag to retrieve the assettag, I can only get "1234567", the node ID".1" is missing. However some other DMI tool such as "RW" can get the full assettag with out problem.
Now I need to script this to get node ID information every time OS starts, so I ask why the node ID part of asset tag is gone? any other way can I get SMBIOS type 3 infromation?

I have two .resx files in my project. One is called Labels.resx , the other is called Labels.fr.resx. The first is meant to be English the second is French. Right now they each only have one item, a string with the key "label1". The values are in English and French.The issue is that even when I try to access the resource as French just hard coding the culture in an attempt to get this working:

I've created a module for my website and when a button is clicked, it calls a VB sub on the server.
I need this sub to retrieve the values that were filled in on the form, but the things I need to retrieve values from are not asp controls, they are simple <input> and <select> tags.
How can I retrieve values from input on a .aspx page from VB code executed behind it?
I have two forms
-DoctorAppointment
-DoctorSchedule
the DoctorAppointment form has all the details about the doctor and the patient and one Schedule button which will show the DoctorSchedule form When I click on any value in the DoctorSchedule form like Monday or any other day and click on save button it opens a new DoctorAppointment form and store the Day value in the text box of the form. The old DoctorAppointment form stays as it is but the new DoctorAppointment form that appears after DoctorSchedule Save click it removes all the earlier values (doctor and patient Details) that were present on the DoctorAppointment Form.
I want that after the Save click it should not call any new form instead the Day value should come on the old form including the Doctor and Patient Details.
In a test project I was able to add a datasource to a form, bind it to the datagridview and manipulate it as needed. Now moving forward to the actual project, is it possible to add the datasource to a class and sort through the data for use in the class?[url]...

View 1 RepliesI am writing a small app that is retrieving data from a device connected to a virtual com-port. I connect without problems to the device using the settings 9600-8-N-1.
I need to send the command <esc>MS , the device then sends back the data to a computer. I have tried this using Hyperterminal with success. I also did this with Excel and VBA. I used the MSComm32 Active X control:

Msgbox(MSComm1.Input)

This returns the error message "Error: expecting a command". I have done som tests in HyperTerminal, and have concluded with:
-If I dont send <esc>, I get error "Expecting a command"
-If I send wrong command (ie MD instead of MS) i get error "Bad command"
Based on this, I suspect that I don't pass the escape character correctly to my device. So I wonder how to do this?

In my userform, users are required to input a start and a end time in 24 hour time format. I am struggling to work out how best to analyze the selected times in order to multiply them by a set of rates, the rates are quite simple:
DayHours rate (day time is between 07:00 - 22:59)
NightHours rate (night time is between 23:00 - 06:59)
I cannot workout the logic to ascertain how many hours have been selected for which rate in an elegant manner, my best attempts so far are clunky and not quite there.

I got a weird problem here like I got a site that users can post comments on a friend profile page.Everytime a user post a comment my application sends e-mail to that page owner, you know to inform for a new posted comment on his/her profile page.The problem is I want to stop the application from sending email if that user has just recently posted a comment say like 5 hours ago/earlier.Here is the function I use that would try to check it:

I am doing invoicing using VS2008 VB. I use Crystal Reports to produce the invoice. I create an in memory dataset to pass to Crystal Reports. What I would like to do is save the dataset I sent to Crystal Reports as an audit trail of the exact invoice. It would only be retrieved in the event of a dispute concerning the original invoice. I thought of using the WriteXML, ReadXML. But that would overwrite the existing XML. Does anyone have a better way of saving the XML for future retrieval?
