Reusing Code (functions, Subroutines, Etc.) In Multiple Pages

Dec 28, 2010

I am very familiar with modules from my time with VB and my other programming, but what is the most commonly used practice and the best way to go about this for a website application with ASP.NET? Say I have multiple pages (in multiple directories; some in the root directory, some in child directories from the root) that will call the same set of functions and subroutines, how do I go about putting this reusable code in a place where the pages and their respective classes can call the functions/subroutines?

IDE :: Backgound Worker - How To Call Functions And Subroutines

Jun 10, 2009

Visual Studio 2008, Standard Edition VB.NET I have only limited experience using the background worker, and all that I've done with it thus far was fairly straightforward and worked fine.

I am now looking to run a process in a background worker which calls various functions and/or subroutines, but of course it generates an error indicating that it's on the main thread (or something like that - I don't recall exactly, but that was the crux of it).

Object Oriented Programming, Subroutines, Functions And Inheritance

I have been learning vb.net for about 6 months now and I red few books about basic visual programming as most to them have information about the basic concepts like what is Object oriented programming, subroutines, functions ,inheritance etc and bit about ADO connectivity to database. Having said all that I think I have good concepts about all these things but now I want to proceed further but can't find appropriate text books or online tutorials.

How To Improve Code To Print On Multiple Pages

Mar 16, 2010

I want to print contents of a ListView, currently I can print on one page only so my question is how do I improve my code to print on multiple pages. I've read little about the HasMorePages property but no idea how to use it in this context. Heres my code:I have a PrintPreviewDialog and Print Document to assist in printing [code] I understand most part of this code but not all so its kinda hard to follow the program flow to make any big changes myself so if possible can someone please comment the code a bit? how printing works in .NET because I only understand parts of it so having trouble joining the pieces together if that makes sense?

Reusing Same Controls On Multiple Forms

Mar 22, 2012

I have a set of controls and code behind them that I'd like to reuse on multiple forms. How can I do this? I know of reusing code via modules, but I'm not sure how I can add the same controls and their underlying code. If I achieve this, will changing data on one form affect the values of another form when they're both open? For example...
Cbox1's selected item affects the choices within Cbox2, and Cbox2's selected item affects the choices within Cbox3 (and so on).
So if I do something on Form1's Cbox1 and it changes Form1's Cbox2, will it NOT change Form2's Cbox2?

VS 2010 Reusing A Very Specific Project For Multiple Solutions?

Aug 1, 2011

First of all, I wasn't sure whether this was VB.NET or General Developer content... It's not technically about VB.NET code, but it's not very general either since it is specifically about Visual Studio. Feel free to move it if required.A while back I realized that all of my database connection code was getting very biolerplate. had 'developed' my own method of connecting to an Access database and storing the results. Basically, for each table I create one 'Manager' class and one 'Entity' class. The Entity class represents a single record in the database and has properties for each field.

Managing Multiple Subroutines?

Feb 25, 2009

have been writing code to replace an old Fortran program. The Fortran program had very organized subroutines which could be called from anywhere in the project. Most of these were relatively small and left a small, easily followed main routine. I'm converting over to VB.net and when I write the subroutines they are all on the same form. Wading through 50-100 subroutines on one form is going to be messy.

Form On A .NET Webserver Using Aspx Pages With The Vb Code-behind Pages?

Mar 19, 2009

I have a form on a .NET webserver using aspx pages with the vb code-behind pages. The form collects the entered data and then emails it, that part works fine.Right after it gets emailed, this code checks to see if the email was sent or not and then updates the landing page accordingly. I used to use just an IF THEN statement, but now that doesn't work in these new .NET pages. Here's the end of the code that I am having difficulties with:

Javascript - Iframes, Child Pages And Functions

Jun 20, 2011

I have an aspx page with some controls. One of which is an iFrame, whose source changes (depending on the selection in a listbox). So, if a user selects an item in the listbox (ie: Claims.aspx), the iFrames source changes to "Claims.aspx".

Now here comes the tricky part. I have a button on my 'child' pages (ie: Claims.aspx). I'd really really really like to have that button execute either:

1) Javascript from the 'parent' page
2) A VB function in the code-behind of the 'parent' page

Any way to do this? (and really, why do I suddenly feel like I'm working with VB 3.0?

Making A General Functions Class Library That Will Be Used In Several Applications And Asp Pages?

Jul 12, 2009

making a general functions class library that will be used in several applications and asp pages, sometimes running at the same time.I've looked at a lot of samples on the web and they all show you to create an instance of the classlibrary namespace or the classlibrary class.

IE.
dim obj2 as new mycompany.mynamespace.myclass
dim n2 as integer
n2 = obj2.somefunction(...)

What I did was create my class library and put a class in it and declared a function as sharred, then created my dll.I don't have to create an instance of it and I can use it like the net framework by just coding

n2 = mycompany.mynamespace.myclass.somefunction(...).

The net framework does this, I mean once I imports it I don't have to make an instance of it in every function. All the samples I've seen about class libraries do not use the shared keyword.

How To Multiple Pages In .NET Form

Apr 29, 2011

I've inherited some VB.Net code that I think needs some restructuring. The project has three forms, each of which is its own Windows Form file that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Form.The problem is that all these forms share a common navigation menu bar that does not change as the user switches between forms, and so the original programmer has duplicated the menu code in each of the three files to generate the menu on each one! I figure this can't be right.

To restructure it, I thought I would create a base form that implemented the menu, and then let the other forms inherit from that, but I ran into the problem that Windows forms already inherit from the class mentioned above, and can't inherit from another class.I noticed I can add an item called "inherited form", but is that the way to go here? The problem of creating multiple screens with a common menu bar has to be incredibly common. Is there one true way to do this? Should I use inherited forms, or should I by have just one base form and make the other screens just plain classes and not forms at all? Or something else I'm not thinking of?

Printing Multiple Pages?

Jun 2, 2010

I want to print multiple pages with vb.net So I have al my data in 2 lists, containing objects ( let's call them list1 and list2). e.g I have in list1 all the kind of cars and in list2 all the available types of those cars. So he first loops through list1 and then looks in list2 which types are linked to the kind. The amount of types per kind of car is unknown. Now I want to print the whole list. He first puts the kind of car. Then I have to write every type of car vertically under each other... So I need to construct a function that checks whether I'm at the end of my page to hit a hasMorePages = true .

I was already wondering if I can print it first all on a image and then I take blocks of that image and put them on different pages.

Tab Control Needs Multiple Pages?

Aug 27, 2010

I want to create a UI that uses a tab control to display multiple listview controls, one on each tab page. The number of tab pages/listviews is dynamic and could reach around 20. The listviews are in virtual mode and are populated from an object (custom class) in memory. It seems very wasteful to create 20 listviews. I seem to remember that back in VB4 days the tab control had only one page, and you changed the display yourself in code. Is there a way to do something similar with VB.net (VS2008/Framework 2.0) i.e. just show one listview and repopulate it according to which tab was clicked by the user? Something like this:

Private Sub Tab_Click
listview.load(MyObject(TabClickedIndex))
End Sub

Use Same Controls Across Multiple Tab Pages?

Nov 21, 2011

My application has a TabControl which has 5 tab pages. Each page represents a "department" and each department has to run this software. So when the user opens the application, they navigate to their department's page.

The software runs a serious of automated and manual tests. The tests are customized for each department. But I need to update the UI during each section of the test.

On the main tab, there is one panel that has 17 PictureBoxes. Each PictureBox represents one test. The PictureBox can either represent a test in progress, a test passed, or a test failed.

All of the tests are in their own code files, for the most part. And in the main form is when I call the tests and update the UI from a single method.

The issue I'm having is how to update the PictureBoxes without creating a bunch of redundant code.

When the test runs, I update the first PictureBox with "in progress", then when it completes, it's update again with pass or fail. So for a single test, I could need to place the UI update in several places, within the same code block, for planning out all the possible conditions.[code]...

.net - Using An HttpWebRequest To Access Multiple Pages?

Apr 30, 2012

I'm trying to screenscrape a website that requires a POST login authentication. I can authenticate fine on my first request, but when I attempt to turn back around and hit the next page, I get a redirect back to the login page (basically it's saying I'm not logged in).

[Code]...

I notice two things... first, the ORA_WX_SESSION has its quotes stripped from it (even if I attempt to force them back in between response and request). Also the XYZCustomerServiceUserName and XYZ values are stripped. Other than that, the session information is identical between the two connection attempts.
