I am trying to run a query an Access db from VB. The general query which I want to run is
SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientID = ?
or SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientLname = ?
I tried using an input box which captured the user input and pass that variable to the query, but that failed. Then I read about writing a function and using that, however, I keep getting an error which says Function not defined, but when stepping through the code, it seems to work. I am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox

The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned.The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.

I am using following code to connect to my database.

I want to pass a date as parameter in vb to query the data from the table.If I hardcore the value in the query it works fine for me, but if I pass it as parameter to query, like I am getting the data from edit text and trying to send that as a parameter, this does not work.

I have a public variable that I declared in form1 of an application. I am trying to call that variable in form2 and then pass that variable in a sql query. If I declare:
Public Class Form1
Public payPeriodStartDate, payPeriodEndDate As Date
How then to I declare that variable in form2 and how to I pass it to my sql query.
Here is the code I have for form1: [Code]
and when I debug this form, no data will appear. I'm sure that it's something wrong with how I'm either calling the variable in form2 or in the query. Can anyone offer any assistance on this?

I want to pass a comma delemited list of values as a parameter to a query I'm building using the designer in Visual Studio 2008 based on some strongly typed DAL tutorials I was going through. The query is going against a DB2 database. Here's what I want to do:
select * from prices where customer in(?)
It works fine win I pass in 123456 as ?But fails when I pass in '123456' (it is a char field so I don't know why this doesn't work; it must be adding these behind the scenes) or 123456, 123457 or '123456', '123457' I'm adding this page to a portal where all the data access is being done based on the DAL designer model with a BLL that calls it so I wanted to do it this way for consistency.

I'm using a datagridview to display data and make updates to my access database. I was able to display data from my database to the datagridview but it is not filtered. I have a query that can be summarised in SQL as follows;

Where the S var is a list of strings. This gives the error 'S' is not declared and points to the S in the function call / join (GetPOSStock). So it does not seem possible to do this in Linq, can anyone confirm?

I have this code to retrieve a record to fill out a tooltip when the user's mouse enters a cell of a datagridview.

This takes way too long for the tooltip to display. So, I created a query in the Access database that takes a parameter of the first field for the record you want.
How do I connect to just the query and send the parameter to it?
I am thinking this might be a quicker way to get the data for the tooltip. But then again, maybe not.

I have a form set up where I want to run the function PopulateGrid on it's Form_Load event. I have initialized the DB connection as follows:

I'm writing small VB.Net app which should build reports based on data gathered from some external MDB-files (Access 2007).
It was planned that this app will use parametrized SQL queries to collect data from DBs.
One of the parameters for these queries is path to the external MDB-file.

Looks simple but doesn't works. After launch my app throws following exception - System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Disk or network error.
Have spent a whole day to make it work with no success. What have I done wrong?

I have an Access XP database with two linked tables and a maketable query. I need to first run the Query through VB 2005 and then get the data from the resulting table created. But I get an error when I run the query as follows. I am getting the SQL Select statement from the SQL view in MS access after I create my Maketable query So it should be ok. i am relatively new to VB and i am working on a Visual Basic Program to build a Student Record Book where all the information is stored to an Access 2007 database. If the user is an administrator they will be able to add a new student, update delete etc. I managed to implement INSERT/DELETE/UPDATE functions and also a search button and they all appear to be working fine.

I'm working on an access database and there is a problem I can solve in a circumvented way but I was wondering if it can be done by using a function in query.The case: I have a main data table and 2 other tables joined to it.

country | city...... | postalcode [code].....
From one of the tables I select the respective zone for the postal codes in the main datatable, ie. if the row's postal code column contains 1000 (just an exmple) then the postal code is searched in the "zone" table "from" & "to" columns using "between", and it results in for example "zone1" (zone column). This is a clear thing, it works okay.However I need to select the respective rate column (based on the rows' weight column) from the rates table selecting the appropriate zone.
I can solve this by a switch statment (select country, city.... switch( zone="1", [1], zone="2", [2] etc.) but it gets very tedious when for example I have a rate table with 15 columns, you can imagine that.My question is if I could create a custom function which returned the respective column based on the result of the zone column.is there some way to get the function's return value to be translated in the select statement? for example select country, city....getzone("rates",[zone]) .....
I know that the rates table do not follow the relational database's main principle and it should look like fromkg | tokg | zone | rate and it would work like a charm with "where"but these tables are changed regularly and I receive them in excel...but maybe transforming the tables each time by unions would easily solve my problem doesnt it?I'm still interested if VBA custom function could be used for such a purpose.

I have a SSIS package that just makes a folder (Child package) and i have a second package (parent) that calls the first package using a script task and the code is like [code]I want to pass the XML file as a parameter ,what the XML file does is that it has Variable for a folder name, so that if i like to change the folder name (making new folder), I can change it in the XML file and the parent pakage will call the child pakage with the XML file as a parameter.

The case is that I have two comboboxes (country and state) and a simple code to populate the state combobox accordingly depending on the selected country. Ok this is simple and easy, and this code is within the country combo change event.The case is that I have more than one pairs of those comboboxes and I wouldnt like to repeat all the populate code into every country combo change event.Actually I would like to have only one function and just call it passing as parameter a reference to the combobox I want to populate.
