Saving Related Tables And Querying Them?
Nov 9, 2009I am having a problem saving related tables and querying them. I have both data binding sources on the form and I have both being added, end edit, and both being saved. When I "view all" and click on the related table "crimes" they're not showing with the Inmate that committed them. I have gotten it to do this with a code similar to that below and I am wondering what I'm doing wrong so that the datagridview for crimes will display the correct crimes for the correct inmate. The primary key for inmates is DOC# and the Primary Key for Crimes is "Entry ID"

DataGridView With Columns From Multiple Tables?
Jun 10, 2009I have 3 related tables in a DataSet - Customers, Products and Orders.I am trying to create an "editable" DataGridView which, ideally, will contain columns from all the tables. I have tried creating the joins in the TableAdapter SQL, but this results in a read-only data grid.
Customers and Orders are joined in a 1:M relationship by CUSTID.
Products and Orders are joined in a 1:M relationship by PRDID.
When the user adds a new Order record they will key the ORDERID, CUSTID, PRDID and QTY.I would like the DataGridView to display the related CUSNAM and PRDDES as soon as the user has keyed the Order record.The data must be displayed on a single data grid row. I am not interested in drill down or multiple data grids.My data looks like this:
Orders: ORDERID, CUSTID, PRDID, QTY
Products: PRDID, PRDDES
Customers: CUSTID, CUSNAM
The data grid should look like this:
ORDERID, CUSTID, CUSDES, PRDID, PRDDES, QTY
My SQL would look like this:

Im wondering the best way to go about this. 2 of the 3 tables have the same columns while the last one is totally different. Below is what I kinda "thought" itd look like but no.

I need to query the results the user can search for anyterm and if it matches something in the columns it return it to the user. Mar 29, 2011I have two databases. One is an SQL database and the other is an Access database.
In the Access database, I have a table with three columns EMPID, FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME.
I load this in my VB program to a table called "EMPID_Table"
In the SQL database, there is a table that has a lot of data that I need to retrieve based on the Employee#, which is the same as the EMPID from the Access database. In my VB program this is loaded into a table called "WagesTable"
How can I merge these tables, or add the columns FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME to the WagesTable
to the correct Employee# in my VB program? I cannot change the SQL database at all, I can only read from it.

Asp.net - Verify Existence Of Two Columns In Different Tables In A Single SQL Transaction
May 31, 2012I'm trying to verify if data exists in two different tables in a single transaction. The reason for the single transaction is the database gets hit about 1-3 million times a day so adding anymore than 1 extra transaction would increase that number up to 9 million, and my poor little server needs a break :)
So I need to check if an ID exists in table X and table Y and return the results to my VB.net script so I can handle the outcome Ideally something like this would work
if exists (select id from X where id = @id)
print 'True,' else print 'False,'
if exists (select id from Y where id = @id)
print 'True' else print 'False'
Which gives me "True, True" if exists in both or "True, False" etc etc... But that only displays in SQL print and not actually returning it as an object/string or array values that I can use.
I'm open to any sort of solution of this nature that can give me two results from a single transaction and how to handle that response in vb.

So I could append a WHERE RMA.fiCharge IS NOT NULL in the query. But how to do that in LINQ or is there another option?
The problem was that the DataSet does not support Nullable-Types but generates an InvalidCastException if you query any NULL-Values on an integer-column. The modified LINQ-query from dahlbyk works with little modification. The DataSet generates a boolean-property for every column with AllowDbNull=True, in this case IsfiChargeNull.

VS 2010 : Display All Selected Columns From Multiple Joined Tables?
May 11, 2011I have multiple tables that I need to pull and display data from. I have created a new query in the TableAdapter of one table to pull data from related tables based on a parameter. In the Query Designer I can run my query and see all of the columns requested in my SELECT statement, however when I bind this table to a DataGridView and call the new query, it only returns the original columns from Table1.How do I see all of the columns I selected in my query?

Timeout Using SQLite - Create A Database And Several Tables - To Populate The Tables With Data From Arrays
Jul 25, 2012I am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?

Aug 7, 2010My form has a DateTimePicker and a DataGridView on it. I need to have it query a SQL Server DB and return the table to the DGV. The query is to search the Date_Joined field for date less than the date that the user input with the DTP. With the code below, my DGV is populated with all data and not the filtered data I need. I also have added a Go button for the purpose of execution instead of using the ValueChanged sub for the DTP.

Sql - Find Tables Used From A .net Application To Remove Unused Tables?
May 10, 2012We are presently developing an application, let's call it APP1, which uses a SQL Database which have about 800 stored procedures, 600 tables, etc. APP1 was originally created in order to replace another application, APP0, from which we do not have source code but only SQL tables, Stored Procedures, views, etc. Previous programers of APP1 used some DB objects from this same database and added some other objects specific to APP1 because it becomes bigger than APP0. And we do not need APP0 anymore as APP1 does all what we want, and more.
So, now, we are thinking about a way to find out which objects are used by APP1 in order to remove objects which are ONLY used by APP0.What is the best approach to discover all objects used by APP1 without having to open every single class and form?
Once we will have a complete list of these objects, it will be easy to use a program we bought which detects all dependencies for all SQL Objects specified directly from SQL and remove objects which do not return from any dependencies. Any ideas of how I could get this list without having to go through all our program that have many, many, many classes and forms?
Note : I know, in a perfect world, all calls to PSs and tables should be in a DAL but in the case of the application we're presently working on ... this is not our case! Yippy! (sarcastic yippy) ;)
Note 2 : This application is not using any ORM. So all queries are directly using SqlCommand. So any call to any DB objects are in string format.
