Save ListBox1.Items To Txt File Using Save As Option VB 2008 EE?
Aug 1, 2009
I have researched the net, youtube, and the msdn DB, and still can not find the working answer I am looking for. I would like someone to show me how you would save the contents of "Listbox1" to a .txt file using the "Save As" Option. I know how to hardcode a savepoint in, but since there will be multiple users I would like the option to be up to the end-user.
I am writing a text editor program and I have written the new, open, save as, exit menu items but I am struggling with writing the save option. Now I have created the menu itself (well vb did, I just used insert standard items) but how do I code up the save menu option so that it updates the current document or if the documnt has not yet been saved bring up the save file dialog. Here is the code I have so far
Public Class Main Private Sub NewToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NewToolStripButton.Click, NewToolStripMenuItem.Click[code]....
I know I have some finishing touches such as messages and error handling and stuff but at the moment I want to get all the basics working,I think the save menu option is all I am struggling with at the moment.
i have a button and a listbox. I would like to click the button and it will popup with a save file dialog and then save all items in the listbox to a .txt file.
I am trying to create a wpf program that allows the user to create custom shapes or pick premade shapes and that after making their selection, a canvas shows their shapes randomly sized, positioned, colored and copied in multiples. I am hoping that on click, the program will put its output on a time interval and that the user can click stop when they are satisfied with how everything looks. My issue is, I would like to also give the user an option to save their created artwork as a jpeg file. Also if I wanted to link this file to a web browser what will I have to do?
My question is simple (the answer may not be...), What I am looking for is a way to save a file as an encrypted file (so know one can open it except in visual basic or a way to save it with a unique ending that only visual basic will recognize. I will also need to know of a way to open or load the file to.
This is going to be used in a game I am working on (and yes...I know visual basic isn't really meant for games, but it is coming together pretty well). I was originally going to have it save as a text file, but then everyone could open, read it and even change there stats. That is what this file will contain, the stats for their character, and when they load it, it will place the values into the correct spot.
I am a partial beginner or intermediate coder, I can understand code, I just don't know all there is, like saving and loading, and this is probably a little harder.
I'm trying to save an excel file: vb.net xlWBook.SaveAs("J:DOWNLOADS.xls") xlWBook.Close() xlApp.Quit()
If the file already exists excel will open an message box and ask if you want to overwrite. If I click yes, it works. If I click no or cancel, I get an error: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC How can I tell what button the user clicked?
Its a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
But i want it to save like this
Team 1 Team 2 Team 3 Team 4 Etc...
The code is...
Dim Save As New SaveFileDialog Save.Filter = "Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt|ALL FILES (*.*)|*.*"
I wrote this code to save the items of a listbox to a .txt file, and I don't know if I am doing it right. Tp1 is the name of the listbox, and I have this code under a public sub in my module. Here's the
Dim CC As Integer = Form1.TP1.Items.Count Dim C As Integer For C = 0 To CC
I've been trying to figure out how to do this correctly for some time now, and I have seen no insight. I'm trying to successfully save all of the items in a listbox without saving items that are not there. What I mean by saving items that are not there is when it saves, it seems that blanks magically appear in the text file. Here is a sample of my current code to save.
[Code]...
I'm not completely sure if it's the loading or the saving that's causing problems, but what would happen is it would add a blank item to the listbox that I do not want. Here's a picture before the listbox is saved, look to the bottom left. Now here is what it looks like after: (notice the red oval)Does any one have any idea what could be wrong? If you want me to attach the text file, just ask.
Has anyone else come across this where they need to separate Listbox items that are being saved in aXML file.
My Current code stores all list box items into one Long String, I just need know the syntax to separateeach item with maybe, Pipe Delimited or something.[code]...
I am trying to find a way to allow my users to choose the directory to save files into, THe file name is automatically generated as it has a naming convention and i am able to pre program a location to save to but i d like to be able to allow my users to decide themselves which directory they want to save the files to and to have the ability to choose which directory to save to
Well currently I'm needing to store various settings, strings, integers, items, etc, within the program settings. So far this has gone without a snag and is working as planned except for one thing, Comboboxes. I have browsed through the various types of settings I can save to and the closest is a "System.Collection.Specialized.StringCollection", however VB is throwing up an error saying that:
Quote:
Error1Value of type 'System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.ObjectCollection' cannot be converted to 'System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection'.C:UsersUserAppDataLocalTemporary ProjectsProjectForm1.vb1234Project
How would I go about saving the items in a Combobox?
I can save the items in a CheckedListbox to a textfile, however the checked status of the items are lost when the list is re-loaded from file. Is there a way to retain the checked status along whith the text?
I added a setting in my.settings, the setting is a listbox, and I know you can put controls in a listbox, but for some reason it will not let me add a toolstripmenuitem to the listbox in my settings. Is there a fix to this?
i have made a downloader . i use save file dialog to save file but when open save file dialog it does not get the file name and file extension from the source....please help me to make a file downloader which gets the file name and extension automatically from web. my downloader downloads file succesfully but doesn't show its real extension and file loses its default extension.
I want to retrieve the selected items in a listbox, save them to a collection, and then use that collection later. I thought that was simple enough, but when I clear the selected items in the listbox, my collections (items, indices) change. I found this out by stepping through the code.
Basically what I'm wanting to do is move items in the listbox up or down (up in this case), and still keep them selected.
I am making some kind of calendar where I can add tasks, so I can easily organise my tasks. For it to complete, I have 3 things I can't figure out how to do it:
1. When I launch the program, I want the items in my listbox to be sorted alphabeticly.
2. I want to save the items in the listbox, so if I close the program and reopen it the items are still saved in the listbox.
3. The items in the listbox all start with a date, fe. "13-4" for today. If that date already passed I want that item to be deleted.
Im trying to save a file in XML and offer the user a save dialog to appear so they can name the file. The file will save using a custom file extention. The problem is I keep getting off the wall suggestions and Im looking for a simple solution. Here is what I have, please only show examples using my syntax based code. Im still a bit new to Vb so posting off the wall examples

The first problem i have is that i have a picturebox as the entire form like the desktop background but the progrblem is that i have some group boxes over that picturebox box. How can i make so you can see throw the group box so that you can see the image behind it. And how can i save a picturebox image without a save file dialog
I only just now realized that the project does not update when it saves until you quit out of Visual Studio. As such I now have 7 backups that are exactly the same, including the main file. I would have lost hours of work if not for finding a copy that somehow had all of my work saved to it. It was named the same thing as four other projects, though, with the other three being the same work from hours ago. Where is this temporary project? I cannot find it on my computer, and I'm afraid of losing all that work. Also, is there a way to do a Save All, and then something like "Save the whole project as" without quitting out of Visual Studio, looking through folders, finding the actual project folder, and copy pasting that? In other words, is there a way to do that in Visual Studio itself?
I'm trying to make it so the the images will save to the folder that you selected in the textbox1.text from the folderbrowser this is the code's I have tried
i'm trying to add some items into a specific ColumnHeader in ListBox1. If i have 3 columns, and i want to add the information written in Textbox1 to ColumnHeader2, how can i do it?
so i have a quite huge program. but lets say i have one label. and i want to save that. i have the code and everything for saving the text of the label. now i want to assign ctrl+s to automatically save the labels text once pressed instead of going through a menu to choose save.this is like a regular texteditor where u press ctrl+s and it saves.
ive used this
If (e.KeyCode = e.Control & Keys.S) Then MessageBox.Show("Ctrl+S pressed") End If and
[code]....
but it doesn't do anything once pressed.im also using the keydown declaration for the form.
I am trying to save a file and I want to limit the user to a couple options being *.txt and I want to make the default *.txt. The code works to save the file, but I don't see the "save as type" option as having any choices and the default .txt extension is not in the file name field.
Private Sub SaveFileDialog1_FileOk(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles SaveFileDialog1.FileOk 'Write the converted string to the file Dim FileToSaveAs As String = SaveFileDialog1.FileName Dim FileWriter As New StreamWriter(FileToSaveAs) [Code] .....
I have a form with multiple checkboxes what I would like to do is to have it that if someone selects any combination of the checkboxes they could save those selections by pressing a button named save options or something to that affect it would then save those selections then they could load them by pressing another button load options and run them with another button named run options (or the box that loads could run too) not sure the best way to do it the goal is ultimately to have a button that allows the state of the checkboxes to be saved and then run as a custom option.
how would I do this I cannot find anything on the Internet ?
