I am trying to write a code that lets you open a text file and display it in a text box. I need to make it so that when the user tries to close the program it will ask them if they want to save any changes made to it.
i just found a new error problem on my app.. i have a save button that saves text1. as the file name and text2. as the content.. i recently tried to save this file name on my app: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareC07ft5Y as a file name, and due to the in the file name, it made my app error and close without being able to save my file.. my question is, how to bring a msgbox saying "invalid characters in file name" instead of causing it to error and shut down. (just found out that registry entry is for SafeDisc-enabled products, although, i'm not fully sure..)
Dim frm As Form For Each frm In Forms Set frm = Nothing Next frm
The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.
I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.
Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?
Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?
i have a form with a listbox. the listbox can be edited (things added/deleted) and when the form is closed i would like the items in the listbox to be saved when the red "x" in the top right corner is clicked
I'm sending a message on FormClosing(...)... This works ok. However... I have multiple tabs with a textbox or rtb, in it. When I change the text, whatever, it is modified. Now, when I close the app a messagebox appears that some of the textboxes or rtb's have been modified. This message is shown for each textbox-rtb-control. Which means, that when I have changed something in 4 different rtb's or textboxes I get the message 4 times. How do I change that to only one time?
I recently made a simple pseudo-encryption program that changes each character into another. It is capable of encrypting and decrypting a string. This can also be done to any text file as well. The characters range from ASCII 32-254 (This on it's own may be an issue because of #127 being DEL).
Because I believed my own coding may be at fault, I attempted this with Triple Des with identical results. For Triple Des, the requirements for en/decryption was:
Encrypt: String to Byte Decrypt: Byte to String
And to change them either direction, I used UTF8. I also attempted ASCII and UTF32, but I don't know what I should do. I am considering dropping this but I want to learn problems like this because I am currently in college and haven't started my core classes for programming yet and want the head start.
The point where I have come into a problem is attempting to do this to another file type like an image. I looked at the results from encrypting then decrypting and the results were similar, but it seems file encoding must be the culprit.
have you of any ideas in why does my software in vb 2010 still exist in the task manager (process tab), after i closed the program? i noticed it when i want to delete the .exe file.
Currently I am saving data from my applications by saving a text file via a stream reader as a string. I have come to a problem. In my current application, I have an array of the following structure:
I am trying to close Form1 and then open Form2, but when i do it closes the whole program.I have tried to just hide Form1, but then i can't close the program and I have tried this method too but could not get it to work?
is there "rules" as to how to close programs writting in vb.net(2008)? I've migrated to dot net from vb6 and have rewritten some of my programs in the new language, but I've discovered a problem, since using the new programs if you try and close the machine down (Windows XP) the pc just hangs until I use the task manager and kill my programs.
When I close my compiled application, it will always hang for a few seconds before closing. It isn't something to do with my PC, I've got a quad core with 4GB of RAM -[code]...
I have my rpg, still, first time working on it n ages, and I want each user to be able to set their own personalized picture background for the game...
each character in the game has its own dedicated folder for each file that the character has relating to it...
what I want to know how to do, is to have my game copy the loaded/chosen background image to their respective characters data folder, and have the game reload/reset the games default background image, to the one piced by he player...I am having a hard time figuring out how to do this however...I've tried a lot of different things...and nothing is working yet...
I'm lending a copy of my .exe on a memory stick and because I dont completely trust them, , I would like to build in a function that as soon as my app has finished doing what its doing And the big red X is hit it will delete itself, but my problem is that i cant put the deletetion in the form closing because the prog is still running, so what should I do? Is there a way that I can get the app to close as soon as the dedicated task is complete, It will remove itself from the memory stick but if the X is hit before the process is complete the then the prog will remain.
does anyone know how I can stop a user from closing the program if they click the "X" button of the Controlbox, but allow them to close the program by clicking another button? I don't want to make the "X" button invisible. I still want it to be there.
I have a VB.Net 2008 app that I have converted from VB6 which reads data from a weight scale connected to a serial port. I am able to read the received data and display it on the screen, but when I go to Stop the reading and attempt to close the serial port, the app hangs.
Private Delegate Sub ShowWeight(ByVal tWeight As String) Private Sub comScale_DataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles
'This is the event that is fired as the application is closing, whether it 'be from a close button in the application or from the user 'clicking the X in the upper right hand corner
[Code]....
Im trying to make an application that when you press X, the program gets put in system tray. But i have like no idea how i'm suppost to do that, so did a search on google and found this code. Only VB2010 (what i use) doesn't like the fourth line. Can anybody give me a quick tutorial on this, and make this work in VB 2010?
I am currently working on a menu driven console program that so far has 4 menu options of checking internet connection, decrypting/encrypting a message, calculator, and a logout, and i am wondering about a few current things.
1. How do i make it to where, when a program starts for the first time, it asks for a user to enter in his data, like signing up for a site for the first time?
2. How do i make it to where the program will save the data entered, and does not delete when the user closed the program.
3. How can i make it to where when a user signs in, his/her data is read correctly? Like an array search for a multidimensional array. For my "New user" sign data i created a function...
Function createNewUser() As String() Dim name As String Dim userName As String[code]...
I need to disable the escape key on loading my program and enable on closing.Although I have searched vb 2008 books and forums I cant find any reference.
Form1 is a mdi container. It has a bunch of forms that can load inside of it as mdi children. If I close each open form inside the form1, and then click the red X at the top right, application exits fine.If I click the red X without closing the forms inside I get: An unhandled exception of type 'System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015) However I can break from it. How do I get the application to not show that error? What must I do to fix those inside forms or close when the red x is clicked?
I have the following code to close a form which is a child. The problem is that when it closes, it closes the MDI parent too.
Private Sub frmTransaction_Closing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles MyBase.Closing If ListView1.Items.Count >= 1 Then
I am extracting a column with 8760 cells from an excel file to my graph in my vb application. I managed to open and close the excell sheet from my program. However, when I try to run my application I receive this message:
There is a large amount of information on the clipboard do you want to be able to paste this into to another program later?
Is there a way that I can avoid receiving this message when calling the data from the excell file?
Im trying to set up some error catching. So if the process errors out in the middle of reading a text file using a StreamReader, the file stays opened. What is a good way for me to close that file after the error? For example, here's some
I seem to have a problem in finding a solution to threads.I am opening a .PDF file via an <iframe> using vb.net. Then the file is opened, it is then moved to another location. But for some reason I am unable to move the file because it "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." The only way round it i have found is to kill the process for Adobe Acrobat, so the file is released. Even if i fill the iframe with something else. How would I close the file, and stop that particular file from being accessed before the move ?
