VS 2010 - File Saving - Simple Pseudo-encryption Program That Changes Each Character Into Another
Apr 22, 2011
I recently made a simple pseudo-encryption program that changes each character into another. It is capable of encrypting and decrypting a string. This can also be done to any text file as well. The characters range from ASCII 32-254 (This on it's own may be an issue because of #127 being DEL).
Because I believed my own coding may be at fault, I attempted this with Triple Des with identical results. For Triple Des, the requirements for en/decryption was:
Encrypt: String to Byte
Decrypt: Byte to String
And to change them either direction, I used UTF8. I also attempted ASCII and UTF32, but I don't know what I should do. I am considering dropping this but I want to learn problems like this because I am currently in college and haven't started my core classes for programming yet and want the head start.
The point where I have come into a problem is attempting to do this to another file type like an image. I looked at the results from encrypting then decrypting and the results were similar, but it seems file encoding must be the culprit.

This is for a simple encryption / decryption program. However when I run this the program does nothing and doesnt respond. Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim decryptedtext As String
Dim encryptedtext As String
Dim k As Int16

Im learning Visual Basic 2010 on my programming class and we reached the part of file handling. Here i tried to make a simple program that can create a text file with the content of what i type on the textbox, basically i create the file if it doesn't exist, and if it already exists i append the content to it. Once the file is saved i can read it using the "Open" button. Unfortunataly, whenever i try to create the file, the compiler gives me an error saying that it cannot modify a closed file, although i've followed up the execution instruction by instruction and i can't find the error.
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1
Dim body As String

I have a simple text file containing a list of names that I wish to sort. I was hoping for something simple like:
System.IO.File.ReadAllText("MyFile.txt")
System.IO.File.Sort("MyFile.txt")
System.IO.File.WriteAllText("MyFile.txt")
or something like that. Didn't want to actually write a bubblesort/quicksort routine myself.
I would imagine the routine would just rewrite the final file or would I have to make a new file and copy the contents back to the original?

I am working on saving some simple strings (from InputBoxes) to an Xml file.I am also at the same time displaying these file entries in a Data GridView. My problem seems to be that as soon as the XmlDocument ("doc") is saved, a dialog box is displayed as follows: This file has been edited outside of the source editor I am getting the dialog, and 2) why I cannot run the routine again (without exiting the application first!). What I've decided to start working on is pretty much a personal project but something I may use in my UNI course in due time. I'm creating a security program with a set of access codes (yes I am a bit of a star trek fan) - 4 in total to be exact. I want to be able to use an Encrypted key file in form of a simple notepad created text file to update the codes at any due time. All I'm looking to do is write the access codes to the text file (say for a friend to use the program), Encrypt the file through the program and be able to also decrypt to obtain the new access codes on demand also via the same program. Once decrypted the codes can be read and verified if the user has entered each one correctly. I could hard code the access codes into the program but would rather do it the way I've thought of.
Back in the days of the old VB6 there was a simple method but for some reason that doesnt work any more. What I guess I'm looking to do is have 4 text fields where 4 digit access codes are typed into, have the program take them and encrypt each one is then written to the text file. Hoping that will make it a bit clearer what I'm trying to achieve as I think I made it sound like I want to encrypt the text file after the info has been written to it, which is of course one option so wouldn't mind know how to do that too!

This seems like it would be so simple and fast, but I cannot figure out how to accomplish it in VB since there aren't many bit functions. I want to take a file and append 5 junk bits at the beginning and 3 junk bits at the end. In essence, just add 1 byte to the file, but in the process offset all the current bits so the file is no longer readable.
I just need a very simple encryption/decryption, but it needs to be very fast as well. I try XORing the bytes, but it gets slow with just a 1MB file. Some of the files are going to be close to 10MB.

I would like to develop a very simple question-answer program whereby there is a user form with a label which contains the question, a text box where the user enters the answer and a button that the user clicks to change to the next question. This should be rather simple but I would like to have about 500 questions in the end (will be slowly adding more questions).

Hi, I need to program a simple Web Browser that can search for keywords and store relevant data in another file.I am facing a problem with authentication, mainly cookies and maintaining a session. So I read that Web Browser Control is based on I.E.? So may I know how are cookies and session handled?Do I have to implement them manually or are they stored and retrieved from the same folder as the one used in I.E? If so, if I delete the I.E.'s cache, am I also deleteing the cache of any Web Browser I make using Web Browser Control?

I am using Microsoft OpenXml SDK 2.0 to create Office 2007, 2010 files, specifically a very simple excel file. It has a simple header which is merged with 6 cells to center. Bold font size 16. There are 6 columns and each has a header. Bold font size 14. There are rows of data related to each 6 columns. I am looking for decent examples of OpenXml SDK 2.0 to get started.

I have been reading about ADO, SQL, datasets, data adapters etc and have gone into information overload. My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? Can you simply hard code something in VB Express?

My idea is to have an input and an output text box. When the user presses a button the program will encode what is in the input text box and output it into the output text box.I also want to encrypt it with a secret key where the user enters a letter or set of letters into a separate text box which will effect the output. This process can be reversed to decrypt

I am having trouble saving a class to a file via Serialization. I am getting this error:
Type 'System.Drawing.Graphics' in Assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' is not marked as serializable.
I have changed the:
Public Class cJigsaw
to:
<Serializable()> Public Class cJigsaw
The next line in my class is:
Public img As Bitmap
I tried adding the <Serializable()> attribute to this code, yet it has this error:
Attribute 'SerializableAttribute' cannot be applied to 'img' because the attribute is not valid on this declaration type.

I could find on using the SaveFileAs Dialog control would get the part where the code should be to actually write the file to disk, and there would be this comment:
'insert code to write file here
or something similar. So anyway, I thought this might be of use to someone else in a similar situation. This is what I came up with to finally "save" a file with the SaveFileAs Dialog. In this situation, I wanted to save the current document of the WebBrowser1 control via the SaveFileAs Dialog when the user clicked the btnsave button...
Private Sub btnsave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnsave.Click
Dim saveFileDialog1 As New SaveFileDialog()

I'm trying to do an encryption program that encrypts with AES256. I have searched for source codes, but I could not find proper result. Most of programs use Rijndael as algorithm, but I don't want using this class. I searched MSDN for AES classes, and I found AESCryptoServiceProvider, but I don't know how to use it.
