VS 2010 OpenXml SDK 2.0 Generating A Simple Excel File
Nov 3, 2011
I am using Microsoft OpenXml SDK 2.0 to create Office 2007, 2010 files, specifically a very simple excel file. It has a simple header which is merged with 6 cells to center. Bold font size 16. There are 6 columns and each has a header. Bold font size 14. There are rows of data related to each 6 columns. I am looking for decent examples of OpenXml SDK 2.0 to get started.
I've got lots of XLSX files and I need to append a new row after the last one in the file. I'm using OpenXML and so far I know how to open/create spreadsheet, but my search for adding new rows to existing files returned nothing.
I have a working code that creates an excel but it uses Interop.Now, I have to use OpenXML. How can I create the excel file and the save the data in the cells?
I am using VB.net 2008 express edition. I have figured out how to use some of the code snippets for the open xml sdk to create a drop down list of all the sheets in an excel file. I can also use the code snippet to get the value of an individual column header. What I want is a drop down list of all column headers. I could create an array containing the alphabet and loop through each column based on the alphabet letter in the array. I would then just exit the loop on the first column with no value returned for column header...but there must be an easy way to return all headers in one query of the xml.
I'm trying to read data from the .xlsx files using SharpZipLib to unpack it (in memory) and reading the inner xml files. Everything is fine but recognizing the dates - they're stored in julean format and I need to somehow recognize if a number is a date or only a number. In another topic (unfortunately it died and I need quick answer) I got to know some things from Mark Baker, but it's still not enough...
"Excel stores dates as a float value... the integer part being the number of days since 1/1/1900 (or 1/1/1904 depending on which calendar is being used), the fractional part being the proportion of a day (ie the time part)... made slightly more awkward by the fact that 1900 is considered a leap year.
The only thing that differentiates a data from a number is the number format mask. If you can read the format mask, you can use that to identify the value as a date rather than a number... then calculate the date value/formatting from the base date." "But doesn't the attribute "s" for dates has always the value of "1"? I know it defines style?
I have a simple application with one datatable in a dataset, I wanted to generate a simple report based on the values in that datatable. I have not used crystal repots IDE ever and I was wodnering can we create a report in crystal reports 2008 based on my application dataset? HOW? If it is not possible to do it in the crystal reports itself, can you send me a link of something that I get on well?
Major problems with the Schema. I am using the DataGrid and not the VB Express 2010 DataGridView. Using code to make a new DataSet and DataView. What is confusing me is when adding Items after right clicking the application in the Solution Explorer, the add items shows DataSet, Xml To Schema, and Xml File. It is obvious that I don't know how to generate an xsd file that I can read into a code generated DataSet. If someone is familiar with xml and VB Express2010. how to generate an xsd file using DataGrid instead of DataGridView that I can read into a code generated DataSet?
I've successfully implemented OpenXML that takes the bookmarks within a document and replaces them. Unfortunately it only works with .docx and from what I understand .doc is not compatible with the OpenXML format. So, what I'm wondering is if I can take that WordprocessingDocument and convert it to a .doc when users try and download it.
I am using it in conjunction with SQL2005. I am trying to replicate some simple activex script to create a new excel file that can be used as a data dump from a database.

I have changed the file location references to make it easier to read. I have googled all morning but cannot find something that helps me. I think it has something to do with references?
I have a rather odd thing happening with an Excel WorkSheet that I am creating through .Net.I load up an existing workbook
Dim _xlApp As New Excel.Application Dim _xlWorkbook As Excel.WokBook = _xlApp.Workbooks.Open(_templateFileName)
set it to be visible before populating it (for debugging purposes)
_xlApp.Visible = True
I then go on to populate the existing template.
Private Sub GenerateOceanFreightGrid() Dim columnCount As Integer = 4 ' _standardColumnCount Dim columnInsertPosition As Integer = 5
[code]....
When i set a breakpoint on the "Private Sub Gen.." line, and step through the code line by line, it inserts a new column for each variable declared, so in this case it will insert two columns before it even hits the "If MyBooleanValue()..." line (I can watch it actually happen due to the Excel app being visible). However, if i dont set a breakpoint and just let the code run straight through this doesnt happen.There is no multi threading happening or anything else that i suspect would have any impact on the code.
I have a form and a button on that form.When the user clicks on the button an MS-Excel sheet is generated from MS-Sql Server 2005 and saved in a particular location.As this generation of excel tkes sometime to complete,what i want to do is i want to show a progressbar loading till the entire sheet is generated. Showing the progress bar will help the user to understand that the generating of excel is under process.
Below My code to Save the File ExcelWorkSheetObject.SaveAs(ExcelSheetName) Below My Progressbar Code
I have been reading about ADO, SQL, datasets, data adapters etc and have gone into information overload. My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? Can you simply hard code something in VB Express?
I recently made a simple pseudo-encryption program that changes each character into another. It is capable of encrypting and decrypting a string. This can also be done to any text file as well. The characters range from ASCII 32-254 (This on it's own may be an issue because of #127 being DEL).
Because I believed my own coding may be at fault, I attempted this with Triple Des with identical results.For Triple Des, the requirements for en/decryption was:
Encrypt: String to Byte Decrypt: Byte to String
And to change them either direction, I used UTF8. I also attempted ASCII and UTF32, but I don't know what I should do. I am considering dropping this but I want to learn problems like this because I am currently in college and haven't started my core classes for programming yet and want the head start.
The point where I have come into a problem is attempting to do this to another file type like an image. I looked at the results from encrypting then decrypting and the results were similar, but it seems file encoding must be the culprit.
Im learning Visual Basic 2010 on my programming class and we reached the part of file handling. Here i tried to make a simple program that can create a text file with the content of what i type on the textbox, basically i create the file if it doesn't exist, and if it already exists i append the content to it. Once the file is saved i can read it using the "Open" button. Unfortunataly, whenever i try to create the file, the compiler gives me an error saying that it cannot modify a closed file, although i've followed up the execution instruction by instruction and i can't find the error.
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Dim body As String
I want is to generate an ID to my listview per row it is possible? For example I have 10 records in listview and I want to add an ID per row in randomly. Here's my sample picture... but it's wrong...coz' at the column 3 it's a repeating ID...
Is it possible to run Openxml sdk 2.0 on visual studio 2005 , i was trying to do his but i've found many error becuse of the LINQ functions that i used, but i cant figure out anoher way to deal with it
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum or has already been asked, but I'm having a problem creating what should be a relatively simple code for an Excel Project. Essentially, the code is supposed to check if a certain column has Y in it and then copy that entire row onto another sheet and then move on to check the rest of the original sheet. This version of the code seems to do everything but actually populate the cells with the information. Every other attempt I've made has ended with "Application-Based or Object Based Errors". I've worked on this code for a few days now and I just can't seem to get it right. What am I doing wrong?
Here's the code:
Sub PopulateNewSheet()
i = 2
Do While Worksheets("Main List").Cells(i, 2).Value <> 0
How can it be done? What I want is to have the program make a string, and then read the string as code. I'm a noob, and it sounds like this should be so easy, but after seeping through this forum, I have found no quick and easy solutions...
Text needs to be copied from 1 wordprocessing document to another wordprocessing document. The source document is not always accessible when inserting the text in the target part. The text is serialized and retrieved later on.
They way I currently do this is by copying the paragraphs elements and then appending them into the other document. This works fine unless bullets are involved. The bullets are not copied from the source to the target document.[code]...
I know that bullets are stored in the NumberingDefinitionsPart of the MainDocument part but my problem is how do I know which AbstractNum and NumberingInstance to insert in this NumberingDefinitionsPart?
I'm retrieving data from an Excel sheet, using a simple SQL query using a textbox as input to my variable. It works great when I enter an integer to search for (such as 213 for example) but when I put in a mixture of numbers and letters (48A for example) I get the following error: Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '[P&L]=48A'.
Private Sub MPLS3() Dim BrNr As String BrNr = TextBox1.Text Dim stSQL As String = "SELECT [MPLS Date] FROM [Master Data$] WHERE [P&L]=" & BrNr & ";"
I am primarily a web developer, mostly working with PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript. I was recently contacted by a local Sheriff's Office (small town word of mouth, nerds are always needed) to digitize a 4 page monstrosity of a form... because nobody could read the handwriting of the deputies.The catch here is that this is a small town department and, while they are fancy enough to carry computers in the field, they are not connected to the Internet. Visual Basic was the first solution that came to mind and I have been scrambling to learn the basics. I am confident in my ability to organize the content of the form and perform any necessary validation but I am unsure where to begin in terms of storing each report locally (database) and printing the end result.
Another matter that makes things complicated is the fact that they want the end result to look exactly the same as the original form, only typed instead of hand written.So, to sum things up, here are the questions I have:there seem to be several options for databases in VB 2010 Express. What is the best option for LOCAL storage of records?It looks as though the best way to format the form the exact way they want it to look with populated data would be to create a form within the application with just this content on it. Is this the best solution or might there be a better way - possibly outputting to another file? And if the data is put on another form, how would I go about printing it?
I am current upgrading some of the functions on an inventory system. Current system accepts manual data input from the user and stores them in a SQL database.One of the inputs is control number which is a primary key in one of our table so it needs to be unique. Since it is manually entered into the system, we have to keep track of all of control numbers so there is no redundant control number which is difficult since we have hundreds of items with unique control number that are entered into the system everyday.Yes, it is waste of time.So I want our newly upgraded system to have a function where the control number is automatically generated so the control numbers are controled by the system. I know there something similar in MS Access 2007 but I cant seem to find it on Visual Studio. [code]
I want to create an excel spreadsheet but, I want it to prompt me for the file name and where to put it. Once it is opened, I know how to interface with it. I only need to create a new file with a prompted for filename and location.
The way we create our DataSet right now is right click on project then choose dataset and create every table then each element that makes up the table. There are at least 10 tables with over 10 elements in each.
