Xml - Reading Dates From OpenXml Excel Files

I'm trying to read data from the .xlsx files using SharpZipLib to unpack it (in memory) and reading the inner xml files. Everything is fine but recognizing the dates - they're stored in julean format and I need to somehow recognize if a number is a date or only a number. In another topic (unfortunately it died and I need quick answer) I got to know some things from Mark Baker, but it's still not enough...
"Excel stores dates as a float value... the integer part being the number of days since 1/1/1900 (or 1/1/1904 depending on which calendar is being used), the fractional part being the proportion of a day (ie the time part)... made slightly more awkward by the fact that 1900 is considered a leap year.
The only thing that differentiates a data from a number is the number format mask. If you can read the format mask, you can use that to identify the value as a date rather than a number... then calculate the date value/formatting from the base date." I am using VB.net 2008 express edition. I have figured out how to use some of the code snippets for the open xml sdk to create a drop down list of all the sheets in an excel file. I can also use the code snippet to get the value of an individual column header. What I want is a drop down list of all column headers. I could create an array containing the alphabet and loop through each column based on the alphabet letter in the array. I would then just exit the loop on the first column with no value returned for column header...but there must be an easy way to return all headers in one query of the xml.

I am using Microsoft OpenXml SDK 2.0 to create Office 2007, 2010 files, specifically a very simple excel file. It has a simple header which is merged with 6 cells to center. Bold font size 16. There are 6 columns and each has a header. Bold font size 14. There are rows of data related to each 6 columns. I am looking for decent examples of OpenXml SDK 2.0 to get started.

I'm tryng to read an excel sheet that has more than 255 cell. I'm using the following code:

this code throws me an error that indicates me that there are too many rows to read. I found, seaching through forums, that it can't be more that 255 cells on the sheet i'm reading.
How can i read this sheet that has over 500 cells?

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

My application uses a badly arranged Excel spreadsheet as a data source. I say badly designed because there's no unique identifier to each row aside from the column where dates and times are found. My app uses the date and time on each row as an identifier to retrieve information from the other columns in the row. The idea is that the user will select a date/time from a ListBox at which time, the app will loop through the DataSet and find the date/time in the right column and display the rest of the info in that row. My issue is that the ListBox control isn't being populated and I can't see why...

This basically works on a search where the user will specify a term to search for (be it a telephone number or (in this case) a telephone extension) and a date range. Now, I know for a fact that the spreadsheet (and thus, the DataSet) has information where the date column - column index 2 - falls within the date range I'm specifying and the column after that contains my search term, but I'm not getting any results.

My naming convention for certain files is ------------kill 28 nov 2010.ext Is there a way I can throw an if statement and a few variables together to check each file in a folder and if date.today = variable then delete file? I want to make a program i can schedule to run daily w/task scheduler, I haven't used VB in awhile but just found the disks from school so i figured this was the easiest way to go about it.

I'm exporting a datagridview to excel. The first column is a Date (not DateTime) which appears like '2/15/2011'. After exporting the datagridview to excel it appears in excel as '2/15/2011 0:00', furthermore the first 68 rows in excel appear as '6/14/1898 12:00:00 AM'. Where is the time coming from? The column type in the database is date. I've attempted to edit the cell style of the datagridview column to date. I've attempted to figure out how to pre-program the formatting in excel, but it's not working either.

Text needs to be copied from 1 wordprocessing document to another wordprocessing document. The source document is not always accessible when inserting the text in the target part. The text is serialized and retrieved later on.
They way I currently do this is by copying the paragraphs elements and then appending them into the other document. This works fine unless bullets are involved. The bullets are not copied from the source to the target document.[code]...
I know that bullets are stored in the NumberingDefinitionsPart of the MainDocument part but my problem is how do I know which AbstractNum and NumberingInstance to insert in this NumberingDefinitionsPart?

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.

I've successfully implemented OpenXML that takes the bookmarks within a document and replaces them. Unfortunately it only works with .docx and from what I understand .doc is not compatible with the OpenXML format. So, what I'm wondering is if I can take that WordprocessingDocument and convert it to a .doc when users try and download it.

I'm trying to read an Excel xls file into a dataset with OLE. I can do that, but it's loosing data. The sheet is formatted with merged cells on the first 11 rows and after that it's just a table. I need to read this with OLE, because the server on which this web-application is working does not have Excel installed.
If I remove the first 11 rows with excel, then save it and then let my program read it, all is fine, but with those rows, it's ok. The excel sheet has header names in row 12. After the read in to the dataset, some of those cells with the header names are empty. I assume this is caused by the formatting. Is there any other way to open and read an excel file on a server without Excel or expensive dll's? Is it possible to open the xls file with OLE, delete the first 11 rows before using da.fill(dataset,tablename)?

I have a VB.NET app which pulls some data out of an Excel file and puts it into XML.Originally, I read from the Excel file using an OleDB connection but then when we deployed the app to the test server, it gave an error saying that some Jet database components needed to be registered on the server to read from Excel and we're not allowed to register those on the server.Then, I rewrote it using the Microsoft.Office.Interop Excel components. Apparently, however, that needs to have Excel registered on the server in order to work and we can't install that either.Is there another way to read data from Excel using VB.NET which doesn't require anything but the .NET Framework on the server the app is running from? It's just a few simple rows of data with no formulas or macros or anything and I just want to grab the data out. It seems to me that this shouldn't be all that complex.
